Youth Work CurriculumLondonderry YMCA believes it is important for the personal

development of all its members to participate and take ownership of whatever programme they are involved with. Youth work alone offers young people the opportunities to acquire skills and gain knowledge that is necessary for survival in the world which we live in today.

For young people to relate effectively with others and to participate within their community they require a safe environment for them to practice their skills and test their knowledge before they go out into the world. The following are the core principles of youth work and underpin the personal and social development of young people and are reflected in all youth work carried out by Londonderry YMCA:

Commitment to preparing young people for participationThe promotion of acceptance and understanding of othersThe development of appropriate values and beliefs
