The MSc programme in International Tourism Management is designed to enable students to develop concepts and theories relating to international

tourism management, stimulate critical thinking and the use of multi-disciplinary perspectives to transform

management problems into opportunities. The design of this programme is such that research forms a key part of the programme in order to encourage students

The tourism industry accounts for 10 percent of employment worldwide. The management skills are very similar to those offered by other industries such as Hospitality, but there are aspects of tourism management unique to its purpose. The BSc (Hons) Computing programme, run in association with Cardiff Metropolitan University, will introduce you to various areas of computer applications including latest

developments in the Information Technology industry. Increasingly employers see a computing qualification as a sign of a well-rounded academic background.

Fast growing computing technology and information systems have become critical components of almost every

enterprise. Companies want to recruit expert professionals who can apply computer science principles, whilst simultaneously demonstrating business knowledge and application proficiency.

Computer technologies also drive innovation in cutting

edge fields - the most modern of expertise - such as the human genome project, vaccine research, environmental modelling, and games design. Other emerging areas

include progress in electronic security, earth simulation

(related to the expansion in the mining industry) and bioinformatics. Independent job market surveys show demand for graduates is escalating. Interestingly, the industry is concerned about an acute shortage of talent

and higher salaries are commonplace.

The principal aim of the programme is therefore to endow you with the knowledge, skills and potential to embark on a career involving computer applications in the international environment.

Programme Structure

The degree programme is comprised of 6 semesters. In each semester, students complete 3 modules, each equivalent to 20 credit points, with a 40 credit point project in the final semester. The Degree is therefore equivalent to a total of 360 credit points (a figure typical of a Degree awarded by UK universities).

Students will be registered with Cardiff Metropolitan University throughout the programme. The BSc (Hons) Computing degree is awarded by Cardiff Metropolitan University.

The programme aims to:

} Develop your lifelong learning skills and Continuing Personal Development

} Develop and support your independent learning while teaching you to undertake investigations in the field of computing and apply up-to-date theories and

techniques

} Provide you with opportunities to improve your technical and software skills

} Provide you with the opportunity to gain qualifications that can lead to membership of professional bodies

} Prepare you for a career in technology and computing

complex body of core subject knowledge.

academic issues. This team includes Administrative Support Staff whose role is to help with concerns such as visa and registration matters.

Training Workshops

Students on the BA Business Studies course are invited to attend a management training workshop. Students are divided into groups and are coached in skills such as team work, creativity, corporate presentations, time management, leadership, problem solving and

negotiation. These events present students with a more practical approach to learning very different from the methodology adopted in a classroom environment. In addition, the programme provides them with an opportunity to expand their social and life skills, bond with other students and make new friends.

All students participating in these interactive workshops will have the chance to acquire leadership skills, make investment decisions, hone their time management,

negotiating techniques and develop greater business acumen.

In short, the management training workshop is not to be missed and is an event that is guaranteed to leave

an indelible mark in the minds of the students. Student feedback from these events is consistently and overwhelmingly positive.

Sporting Activities

LSC organises various sporting events such as football

and cricket. Students have the opportunity to play Cricket at competitive level against other Institutions in the national university leagues.

The LSC Cricket Team have been regional British Universities and Colleges Sports league champions three years running and have even played matches

internationally.

Student Academic Requirements

Attendance

The School undertakes constant monitoring of student attendance at lectures on a daily basis. Weekly percentage attendance figures are available for each student to inspect online. The School requires students to attend all lectures and maintain a high level of

attendance throughout their course. The Student Visa, issued by the Home Office of the British Government, is granted on the proviso that you are attending a full-

time course at LSC. Therefore, non-attendance of lectures means not complying with the conditions under which the visa was issued.

In the event of non-compliance of attendance regulations, the School will inform the sponsors and parents of the erring student. Furthermore, the

UKVI and the visa-issuing High Commission will be informed of the attendance record. Also, there is a

direct correlation between examination pass rates and attendance at lectures. If a student’s attendance is unsatisfactory, he/she will be barred from sitting for the School’s examination or will eventually be terminated from the programme.

Assessments

Students must submit all the relevant assignments on

time and deadlines will not be extended. Students must attend classes and sit for all the examinations.

Textbooks

Fee Payments

Your course fee includes all costs associated with your recruitment and admission and the cost of your tuition

fee. When students are paying fees by instalment

they must comply with the instalment arrangements pertaining to their course. Deadline dates are set for

the balance of fee payments, which must be met by students in order to enable them to progress through

their studies. The School fees are not refundable or transferable under any circumstances. In the event of absenteeism or failure in an examination, the student will be required to pay the appropriate resit examination fees which prevail at the time.
