In many instances, infrastruc- ture has become the backbone of con- temporary society. With the aim of de- veloping a geospatial understanding of the multifaceted relationships among infrastructural networks, socio-economic systems and ecological flows, this pre- sentation highlights a number of research and design projects that have used data visualization and watershed-based planning principles as tools to imagine new regional landscapes or communicate complex spatial interac- tion with broader audiences. Kees Lokman is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at UBC’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. He holds degrees in planning, urban design and landscape architecture. Prior to joining SALA in 2014, Kees taught at Washington University in St. Louis and the Illinois Institute of Technology. We are no longer confronted with an indifferent kind of nature but with an environment characterized by a pro-found blurring of social and biophysical processes. In many instances, infrastruc-ture has become the backbone of con-temporary society. With the aim of de-veloping a geospatial understanding of the multifaceted relationships among infrastructural networks, socio-economic systems and ecological flows, this pre-sentation highlights a number of research and design projects that have used data visualization and watershed-based planning principles as tools to imagine new regional landscapes or communicate complex spatial interac-tion with broader audiences.
