Music Magazine – Genre research• Classic FM is a magazine that is aimed at the more mature and older generation whereas you

would have magazines like Q of which is aimed at a much younger generation. The music that Classical FM is righting about is much more calm and has a huge history behind it .where as pop music is what most of the younger generation would like to listen to. But classical FM has there own radio station as well which helps people to know what's happening in classical music. this also is a good marketing strategy so that they can get the name out to as many people as possible to bring in new readers.

• The type of music that this magazine is classical because they are trying to say that it still a huge part of the industry because of what people us it in and with the history classical music has behind them means that we should keep it up to date

• Classic FM sometimes uses celebrities, such as Paul McCartney but most of the time they only use people who are well known in the classical music scene.

• A quote from wiki• “Launched in 1995, the magazine was initially published under contract by John Brown

Publishing. In July 2000 it was announced that the radio station had cancelled the contract with John Brown Publishing and signed a new agreement with Haymarket Publishing, to which company the magazine transferred in November 2000.In January 2012 it was announced that the magazine would cease to be published. The final issue, dated April 2012, was published in March 2012.”

• This shows that the magazine has a huge amount of history, that it started in 1995, so they would have a huge reader base because they have been around for so long.

Foundation Portfolio in Media• Convergence – For example Web

address; Social network link – this something the examiner will be expecting. This doesn't need it because the magazine is so well known

• Strapline – This has a strap line which helps advertise free CDs that come with the magazine and other products you'll get with the magazine. This would draw more readers to this magazine.

• Master head – The Master head is showing the reader what the magazine is and is normally what people first see.

Target Audience – Katz, Maslow, Hartley and/or socio-economic needsClassic FM, according to Katz my audience will be informed and educated as they will learn something from reading my magazine. They will gain knowledge about the classiest events and history about classical artists and the different types of music there is out there for them to enjoy. Secondly, according to Maslow, my magazine will appeal to a ‘social climbers’ audience as they will want to improve their lifestyle by reading this magazine and looking at the images and then wanting/striving to be like them. Thirdly, according to Hartley, my magazine will predominantly be for audience of males but also females as there is aspects of my magazine which will appeal to both sexes such as there are images of both male and females and the stories are appropriate for each sex.

What is the USP of this magazine? The unique selling point of my magazine of inspiration, ‘Classical FM’ is the unique star appeal because not many other magazines have these celebrities on them. Majority of the magazine we see in a corner shop or super market are teen ones or football, seeing this one on a shelf sticks out and is unique in its self.
