As a security professional:You should be able to understand what LO/TO means when you encounter it.
LO/TO is the means by which potentially hazardous energy sources are secured before work begins.
This is NOT a LO/TO training program.
The purpose of this presentation is to familiarize Security Officers (S/O’s) with LO/TO principles.
Always check with the Facilities Manager or Engineers if you encounter LO/TO on site.
Document any LO/TO placards you may find in your Daily Activity Report (DAR).

You may wonder…
Why do I need to know about
LO/TO? Because it never hurts to
be informed

When contractors come on site to work on electrical systems:You should have a LO/TO permit signed by the Facilities Manager or one of the Facilities Engineers:
Company name and phone # Electricians name Location of work System that will be worked on Possible outage of power to a critical system Any other contractor working in the same area Phone # of electrician (cellphone) Escorted/unescorted access to area Inform EH&S manager Inform HR (if work will be disruptive to employees) Start/finish time

LO/TO Means the following:
Do not touch! Power is turned off!
Check your Post Orders (PO) for any additional information.

You should have a Point of Contact (POC) in the facilities department:
Call me if you have any
problems Bill. The Facilities manager is attending a meeting off site all day.
Will do Steve.

In your passdown:
Make sure the next S/O is
aware of the fact that there is LO/TO work being done on
site
