EPISODE 101 - "PAUL"

ACT ONE

FADE IN:

INT. JANITOR’S CLOSET - 7:45 A.M.

7:45

A large, black BOX is on the floor of the closet. Colored

WIRES sprawl out of the box. A set of HANDS connects

various wires.

7:46

The final wires are connected, and a small TIMER in the

center of the box flips on. It reads: 8:45.

We ZOOM OUT to reveal the hands’ owner, a fifteen-year-old

high school student named PAUL: medium height, with a medium

build and medium-length hair. He is dressed in cargo pants

and a gray jacket.

PAUL

(quietly)

8:45.

He STANDS from where he was kneeling and OPENS the door.

INT. WEST HALLWAY - CONT.

7:47

Paul STEPS OUT of the closet and SHUTS the door. We trail

him as he WALKS east through the hallway. Many people are

walking through the hallway or stopped at a locker, but it

is not particularly crowded yet.

7:48

He passes by a group of FOOTBALL PLAYERS (ep. 104). They

SNICKER at him. Paul does not turn and continues to WALK.

He passes a DOOR with PIANO MUSIC coming from it (ep.

103). The music suddenly STOPS. Paul continues to WALK.

7:49

Page 3: Lockdown 101-102

CONTINUED: (2) 2.

He now passes by a group of CHEERLEADERS (ep. 106). One

cheerleader WHISPERS something as Paul passes, and they

GIGGLE meanly at him. Another adds something and they

GIGGLE louder.

Paul approaches a BATHROOM and enters.

INT. WEST BOY’S BATHROOM - CONT.

7:50

The bathroom is empty. Paul approaches a URINAL and begins

to USE it.

As people pass the bathroom door off-screen, isolated

SNIPPETS of CONVERSATION can be heard.

A BOY in a football uniform enters the bathroom (ep.

104). This is MATT: very tall, handsome, and of medium

build.

7:51

Matt begins to remove his UNIFORM.

Paul finishes and ZIPS his pants. He turns around to the

SINK and begins to wash his hands. He uses SOAP.

At first, he slowly RUBS his hands together. He begins to

go faster. Soon, he’s using an incredible amount of FORCE.

MATT

Jesus, calm down!

7:52

At this point, Matt has removed his uniform and is PULLING

on a SWEATSHIRT.

Paul SHUTS the water OFF and EXITS the bathroom without

saying a word or drying his hands.

INT. WEST HALLWAY - CONT.

7:53

As he STEPS out of the bathroom, a GIRL passes by, heading

east (ep. 103). This is KARA: short, cute, and somewhat

heavy (with large breasts). She STOPS at a DRINKING

FOUNTAIN across the hall. She BENDS over and DRINKS.

CONTINUED: (2) 3.

Paul stays in the bathroom’s entryway, STARING at Kara (and

her butt).

From behind him, Matt EXITS the bathroom and PUSHES past

Paul to get out. Matt walks to the middle of the hall,

where a CHEERLEADER stands WAITING (ep. 106). This is

AMANDA: medium height and skinny, with long blonde

hair. Matt WRAPS his arm around her and they begin to walk

east.

MATT

(now distant)

Waiting long?

7:54

Kara is done drinking, and she STRAIGHTENS herself and

begins to WALK east. A few seconds later, Paul too begins

WALKING east.

Paul passes the GYM. Inside, the BASKETBALL TEAM is

practicing (ep. 108).

INT. EAST HALLWAY - CONT.

7:55

Paul continues to WALK. Paul is walking slightly FASTER

than Kara, who is on the other side of the hall still. The

distance between them lessens.

7:56

Paul continues to WALK, passing Kara. Ahead of him, Matt

and the cheerleader enter a CLASSROOM (ep. 104, 106).

Paul passes the LIBRARY (ep. 102, 103, 107).

7:57

Paul passes another set of BATHROOMS (ep. 107). He passes

the open DOORS leading to the CAFETERIA (ep. 103, 108).

INT. ENTRANCE FOYER - CONT.

7:58

Paul passes the shut double DOORS leading to the

brightly-lit and crowded SCHOOL OFFICE (ep. 102, 105, 108).

He makes his way to another set of DOORS, leading

outside. He OPENS one and walks out.

EXT. PATH - CONT.

7:59

Paul WALKS down the PATH leading away from the school. In

the distance, a BOY is walking quickly from the PARKING LOT

toward Paul and the school (ep. 102). This is AUSTIN: tall

and lanky, with hair in his eyes and a brightly colored

t-shirt and jeans. He gets nearer.

8:00

The school BELL RINGS. Austin SPEEDS UP, now late. Paul

continues walking to the parking lot and street. They PASS.

From behind him, we hear Austin TALK.

AUSTIN (O.S.)

Hey, Emily.

EMILY (O.S.)

(friendly)

Hi. Better hurry, or you’ll be

late.

8:01

AUSTIN (O.S.)

Yeah, I know. See you soon.

EMILY (O.S.)

You will, I promise.

Throughout this CONVERSATION, Paul has continued walking

away from the speakers and the school. We have still been

TRAILING him.

Emily (ep. 108) RUNS to catch up with Paul. We see her for

the first time. She’s fairly tall, skinny, and stunningly

beautiful.

EMILY

Hey, Paul.

PAUL

Hello.

EMILY

You ready for this?

8:11

The front door OPENS and Paul and Emily ENTER the house.

EMILY

I need to use the bathroom for a

Emily CLIMBS a nearby STAIRCASE. Paul heads into the

KITCHEN.

INT. KITCHEN - CONT.

8:12

Paul opens the FRIDGE and removes a CHEESE STICK. He

UNWRAPS it, drops the WRAPPER on the floor, and begins to

EAT.

8:13

Paul STANDS in the kitchen as he eats his cheese

stick. Once he has eaten it all, he FILLS a CUP with water

from the SINK. He DRINKS it and sets it on the COUNTER.

Paul EXITS the kitchen.

8:16

Emily enters and SITS beside Paul, STARING at him. Paul

TURNS his head and STARES into Emily. They STARE.

8:17

Paul BREAKS his gaze, reaching under his bed. His arms come

out with three GUNS: a RIFLE, a SHOTGUN, and a HANDGUN.

PAUL

I’ve got the guns.

Emily TOUCHES them carefully. Paul HANDS her the RIFLE.

EMILY

They’re loaded?

PAUL

Yeah. I checked this morning.

Emily NODS, considering.

EMILY

Do you want to take the rifle? I’m

no good with them.

8:18

Paul and Emily SWITCH guns. Paul has the RIFLE; Emily has

the SHOTGUN and HANDGUN. Emily STANDS.

They all continue to WALK towards each other. Paul LIFTS his

AUSTIN (cont’d)

Emily, what’s going on? Emily?

A SHOT rings out. Austin DROPS, instantly dead.

Paul LOWERS his rifle. He and Emily walk AROUND the dead

body and continue toward the school.

8:29

They APPROACH the doors. A WOMAN walks quickly out of the

three SHOTS kill them.

8:32

Paul continues WALKING west while an announcement comes on.

PRINCIPAL (O.S.)

Teachers, lock your doors. There

is a shooter in the building. This

is not a drill.

No impact is visible in Paul. He continues to WALK,

There is only a JANITOR in the gym. He sees Paul.

JANITOR

Wait, kid -

A SHOT; the janitor DROPS DEAD.

Paul HEADS to the weight room door.

DROPS. Her corpse is still in the distance.

8:36

Nearby, a girl RUNS out of the west boy’s bathroom. It’s

Amanda, the cheerleader. She immideately sees Paul and

begins to run away, terrified.

Paul LIFTS his rifle and SHOOTS. Amanda DROPS.

8:37

Paul WALKS up to her body. Her leg is GUSHING BLOOD, but

Stop...don’t...

PAUL

What?

AMANDA

Don’t...shoot...please.

PAUL

What’s my name?

AMANDA

...What?

8:38

We ZOOM out to reveal Matt approaching Paul from

BEHIND. Paul suddenly spins around and SHOOTS. Matt DROPS

DEAD.

Amanda’s SOBS grow LOUDER. Paul checks his WRISTWATCH. He

TURNS and begins to RUN back east.

8:39

The halls are absolutely EMPTY, except for the couple DEAD

BODIES scattered in the halls. All of the classrooms are

DARK inside. In the distance, GUNSHOTS are heard.

Emily is horrified. She DASHES to Paul.

EMILY

Oh my god! Oh my god!

8:41

Paul begins to BLEED from the gunshot WOUND in his SIDE.
