Common room:The common room was used for our ‘fly on the wall’ footage as this is where our “subjects” relax and have fun. This wasn’t a pre-selected location, rather we found that our subjects naturally gravitated towards this area, so in order to keep their interactions natural we simply filmed them as they were.

This is the ‘work area’ within the common room, where our cast were writing their personal statements. This area was again selected by the girls as this is where they wanted to complete their work. Again we allowed the girls to chose where they wanted to work in order for them to give the most relaxed reactions to which we filmed around them as they worked.

The class room was used to conduct auditions as well as other interviews, this was done so that the video extract would offer a wider variety of shots in order to keep the viewers interested in the smaller ‘sub-interviews.’

We asked to film Mr Suter in his office, as not only did it contrast with the previous interview area, but it allowed the viewer to see Mr Suter in his “natural environment”. This was important as it further projects the idea that he is important within his field and is official within the school – so the advice he gives would be useful and worth-while. Again this is also contrasts the type of interview we conducted with set questions of which we pre-warned him so his answers weren’t as spontaneous as the girls.
