7 LOCAL ARAB TIMES, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2, 2016 Scouting 'movement' in Kuwait promotes peace, friendship: min Conference aims to establish online magazine KUWAIT CITY, March 1, (KUNA): The scouting movement in Kuwait always promoted friendship and peace since its inception, said Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Issa Tuesday. Speaking to the press after the opening of the eighth conference for the Arab Scouting Federation, Dr Al-Issa said that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s patronage of the event reflected the strong desire on part of Kuwait to further contribute to the Arab scouting movement. The scouting movement is an extension of its educational counterpart, said the minister, affirming that it taught young individuals all about honor, dignity, and the values of helping others under all cir- cumstances. The Kuwaiti minister welcomed the del- egations partaking in the conference and hoped that the event would contribute to the development of the scouting move- ment in the Arab world. On his part, head of the Arab Scouting Federation Mohammad Al-Jraiya thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for its generous patronage of the conference and took the chance to congratulate Kuwait on the advent of its national cel- ebrations. He called on the heads of the Arab delegations to work together to come out with resolutions that would be ben- eficial for the scouting movement in the region. Al-Jraiya also welcomed the recent addition of the UAE and Qatar in the membership of the organization, affirm- ing that more countries are welcomed to join. The chief topic of this event will be the establishment of an online magazine that would highlight scouting activities in the Arab world, said the official. Meanwhile, head of the Kuwaiti Scouting Federation Mohammad Al-Dubiyan lauded during his speech the tremendous efforts played by the Arab federation, affirming that it played a major role in coordinating efforts to boost rela- tions amongst members. The official also hoped that the confer- ence would come out with resolutions in favor of developing the scouting move- ment in the region. KFAED said in a press release that its goal aims at helping local graduates in engineering and architect besides supporting human resource development. KFAED added that the course also helps boost human development resources and national cadre in addition to private sector institutes. The training course takes three dif- ferent stages, which includes academic studies, training, and field training with local and glob- al companies, the statement noted. The Fund’s main operations are focused primarily on the sectors of agriculture and irri- gation, transport and communications, energy, industry, water and sewage. Also: AMMAN: The Jordanian central bank announced on Monday working out an agree- ment with the Ministry of Planning and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development to earmark Kuwaiti dinar 30 mil- lion worth of loan (some USD 100 million) for funding small and medium companies. The central bank said in a statement the loan, offered by the Kuwait-based AFESD, would be re-lent to small finance companies and banks which would in turn re-loan it to very small, small and medium-sized companies. The World Bank had offered a loan worth USD 70 million and AFESD contributed with USD 50 million for funding 11,000 projects that secured more than 2,600 jobs. AFESD, chaired by the eminent Kuwaiti business leader Abdulatif Al-Hamad, is a regional-Arab financial institution that finances development, economic and social ventures and programs. The Kuwait-headquartered fund contributed, between 1975 and 2015, to fund- ing and executing many key development ven- tures in Jordan; estimated at 46 ones, worth USD 1.9 billion. Grants given during the same period were in the range of USD 56 million. The fund had also financed a number of programs, small and medium enterprises, val- ued at USD 80 million. Al-Maatouq in his speech on the honoring ceremony for Al-Majid held by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said this honoring comes in recognition of his efforts in the fight against poverty and sheltering of refugees around the world. On his part, Director for the Middle East and North Africa Bureau at the UNHCR Amin Awad said the UN has decided to grant the title of (Humanitarian Hero) to Al-Majid as a recognition of his history in humanitarian and charity service at the time where the UNHCR was not able act alone with this huge number of needs. Al-Majed in his speech said the world is going through a major political crisis that has affected millions of people and displaced them from their homelands where the num- ber of refugees is unprecedented and “we should unify efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the needy”.
