We recently conducted an information blitz on the many benefits of forming a Neighbourhood Watch group. In one day alone, we had over 150 residents from Division 2, sign up wanting to receive more information. This will form yet another group in Helensvale. Please check on line to see which Neighbourhood Watch is closest to your home – Helensvale, Riverdowns or Oxenford. Go along and check out all the information which is shared on a meeting night. The meetings are also a fun social gathering.

The lake behind The Oxenford Youth Centre is a non-tidal, spring fed lake, which is full to the brim due to the unprecedented amount of rain we have experienced over many months. Some of our timber and galvanized steel boardwalk infrastructure, around the lake, has been submerged for long periods. Drainage options are being investigated, with pumping being the immediate probable choice. The construction of a spill way is also being considered, but can not be built while the level is as high as it is.

We have seen an increase of tagging over the past few weeks. Graffiti is illegal, ugly and very expensive to remove. GCCC is committed to removing and preventing graffiti in our city - but we need your help to do it. I am always available to take information on where new tags appear, or you can call our hotline on 5581 7998.

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind residents of the wonderful work the Animal Welfare League does for the whole community. Gone are the days of animals being euthanised if unclaimed from the pound. Instead, they are cared for until a home is found for them. Fed, sheltered, medicated if needed and loved. The AWL are always looking for extra help with the care of the animals, donations via the website or by donating clothes and books to the AWL shops. Please look them up on their website or on Face Book.
