[email protected] 613 549 4419 FRILL (Friends Revitalizing Industrial Land Lovingly) is a community garden that aims to bring people together in the spirit of community and good will. The garden was started in May 2004 by the Grade 2 class at Mulberry School and Carone Beaucage as a cleanup project. The original area was a vacant lot that had been “sprinkled with broken glass and trash. Graffiti covered the nearby warehouse…” Carone had moved into a house across the street and had said that she did not want her children to have to view such an unsightly “mess”. The community (teachers, students and parents) was invited to help out – creating ornamental, fruit and vegetable garden plots with trucked in soil. Kingston businesses also donated soil, lumber and plants during this early period. Ultimately, the group “FRILL” (Friends Revitalizing Industrial Land Lovingly) was born of this cohesive project and included families of the students at the school, people in the neighbourhood and Kingston citizens.

Bob Chorney, an OMAF employee and later the General Manager of Farmers' Market Ontario, was instrumental in the return of Farmers' Markets to many small towns in Ontario. A trial market was held in Perth in the summer of 1991 and was very successful. Rob Trower, manager of Shaws of Perth, became the BIA rep for the market. He took on the role of being the driving force behind the market during its formative period. The market has been operating as Perth Farmers' Market since June 13, 1992.

Centrally located in the heart of Eastern Ontario, Frontenac is steeped in history. Originally proclaimed on July 16, 1792 as part of the newly-created Midland District, Frontenac was joined by neighbouring Lennox and Addington counties, as one of the original nineteen counties in Upper Canada. The union was formally dissolved on January 1, 1865. The evolution of its municipal history continues. On January 1, 1998, the eighteen former townships were restructured to form four – the Townships of North, Central and South Frontenac and the Frontenac Islands, represented by their respective mayors on a four-member council.

Loyalist Township is located in the southern most part of Lennox and Addington County, on the shores of Lake Ontario, midway between Toronto and Ottawa. Straddling the 401 corridor and encompassing an area of 342.27 square kilometers (132.16 square miles) the Township consists of a variety of living environments including the fully serviced areas of Amherstview, Odessa, and Bath. Other built-up residential areas include Wilton, Millhaven, Stella, Violet, and Switzerville.

Prince Edward County is located on a large irregular headland or littoral at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, just west of the head of the St. Lawrence River. This headland (officially named Prince Edward County in 1792[1]) is surrounded on the north and east by the Bay of Quinte; as the Murray Canal now connects the bay to Lake Ontario across the only land connection, the county could technically be considered an island.According to the 2006 Census, Prince Edward has a population of 25,496 over an area of 1050.14 square kilometers. The county's relatively mild climate has led to the establishment of about 50 vineyards and close to a dozen wineries.

The Belleville & District Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit business association that traces its origins back to 1864, when a group of local business leaders joined together to work for progress in the community. From that small group, the organization has grown to over 600 member businesses comprised of all sectors. The Board of Directors governs the Chamber; several Committees plan and carry out the work; a small full-time staff manages the day-to-day operations. The Chamber provides information to people who want to find out more about the Belleville and Quinte area.

In the early 1990s the Sisters of Providence congregation officially established a Justice and Peace office to identify and take nonviolent action on issues that affect the poor. That action includes being a voice that challenges all -- from members of the congregation, to elected officials, to the general public -- to become more aware of the impact our decisions have on all members of society.
