• The state mandates that all coastal communities in California have a Certified Local Coastal Program

• The California Coastal Commission certifies Local Coastal Programs and administers them in partnership with coastal communities

WHAT IS A LOCAL COASTAL PROGRAM?

• The Venice Coastal Zone has a certified Land Use Plan

• The Venice Coastal Zone does not have a Certified Implementation Plan

• Therefore, the Venice Coastal Zone does not have a Certified LCP

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CERTIFYING THE VENICE LOCAL COASTAL PROGRAM?

The purpose of certifying the Venice Local Coastal Program is to:

• Create compliance with State legislation

• Create greater transparency & predictability in the coastal development review process.

How will we do this?

• Update the Land Use Plan; building upon existing policies in order to reflect the Community's vision

• Address sea level rise and climate change

• Draft an Implementation Plan that is consistent and enforces the Land Use Policies

• California Coastal Commission has an LCP Grant Program which launched in 2013

• The City of Los Angeles was awarded two grants to update the Land Use Plan and draft the Implementation Plan
