Needlepunch is a wholly fibre based product, where layers of fibre are needled together to create a pile to suit the individual sport. The unique benefits of the needlepunch surface are maximum porosity within a sports surface product, durable and hardwearing with a minimum sand content. This low sand content makes for lower maintenance costs and overall lower costs over the lifespan of the surface compared to other synthetic sports surfaces. With strong seam strengthen and adhesion to the surface this product is ideal for all types of sports and for installation into numerous establishments.

Tufted is a dual component surface created by punching fibre through a primary backing to create a U shaped tuft. For stability and performance, all tufted carpets require an infill, either sand, rubber ora combination of both which will require regular maintenance to enhance their performance standards. A tufted carpet is the only option for football and rugby as it creates a longer pile surface to match the performance criteria of football, rugby and GAA. Aesthetically, it is nearer to a natural grass look and is illustrated in our Nearlygrass range.

A Woven Surface is created by weaving the backing yarn and pile yarn together as one. This methodof construction offers a highly stable, non-directional, non-infill product with extreme porosity parameters and integral strength. The major benefits of a woven surface are its non-directional pile, giving consistent ball roll and strength throughout the whole product.

As the name suggests, a multi-use games area is one that can be used for a variety of different sports and activities. Understandably, they are becoming very popular with sports clubs, schools and other organisations that have limited facilities and need to get the best possible use out of them.

A MUGA will consist of an artificial, all-weather sports surface made with synthetic materials, which will typically include multiple pitch markings for different sports. Those pitch markings are colour-coded to match each sport. For examplefootball markings may be one colour whereas hockey, netball and basketball markings are all different again. A MUGA is suitable for year-round use.

What is (MUGA)

There are many things to consider when installing a MUGA, and the following are some of the more important ones:

• Surface - For MUGA installations, we offer 4 surface options. Tufted surfaces with a high pile are best for football and rugby, as they accurately recreate the feeling of a natural grass surface. However, for small ball sports such as hockey and tennis, a shorter pile tufted surface or needlepunch may be more appropriate. We will discuss your requirements with you to ensure that you find the right surface to meet your needs.

• Maintenance - Artificial surfaces are cheaper to maintain than natural grass pitches, but you should still consider how you will manage the upkeep of the pitch and choose a surface that you can realistically manage to maintain. We can advise you on the type and level of maintenance required for each of our surfaces.

• Cost - Budget will of course be a key consideration. With our range of MUGA surfaces, we can give you a number of different options to choose from in order to meet your budget.

What you need to consider

The way that your MUGA is made will depend on a number of factors. The most important one is the combination of different sports you intend to play on it. There is no one type of synthetic sports surface that suits all sports equally. However, we have a wide range of surface options and the expertise to help you select the one that’s best for your needs.

From our factory in West Yorkshire we manufacture needlepunch, woven and tufted surfaces. These are all slightly different manufacturing processes, but all are backed by a minimum 5-year warranty and all surfaces are UV stable pending on the surface you choose, there may also be a sand or rubber infill (or a combination of the two) to give a more realistic feel.

This synthetic all-weather solution plays just like the best natural turf pitches, but with much lower maintenance costs. In-filled with sand and rubber granules to maintain a professional playing standard, we recommend regular maintenance. To preserve playing performance over a longer period of time we recommend a shockpad is incorporated.

All of our tufted 3G products are classified to FIFA equivalent, being International Match Standard (IMS).

Tested to IMSThe International Match Standard and FIFA quality are technically identical and all the testing procedures and requirements of a FIFA quality certified field also apply to IMS fields. Official testing to the International Match Standard shall only be carried out by independent test institutes accredited by FIFA.
