Fun and adventure under the stars I was my privilege to travel to Nepabunna Community with our school group of 52 students and 8 adults last week. It was a week of adventure, surprises, discoveries and fun. Students gazed at stars, collected rock samples, hiked to see ancient aboriginal rock art, learnt about Adnyamathanha Dreaming stories and explored the beauful country. Being so far away from home can be hard but I was impressed with the resilience of all of the students and the support they gave each other throughout the trip. We were fortunate to work with 2 Aboriginal Cultural guides- Joelwyn and Deon during the week and to learn from them about their land and stories. Students also worked with the team from the Backyard Universe - Fraser, Lorraine and Alan to make models of the solar system, view planets and stars at high definion through amazing telescopes and noce more about the world above and below them. We also made me to lend a hand to the community by cleaning around the cemetery, weeding the playground and planng shrubs. The students worked together to prepare meals, clean up dishes, to keep their own gear organised and hike further than they had ever done before! It was a week well spent creang lifelong memories and capable independent young people. We are very grateful for the wonderful team of adults who supported the camp- Mark Zadow, Jarad Stanley, Colin Hacke, Lucy Cahill, Amie Teagle, Sarah Wright, Simon Lock and John our bus driver. I couldn’t have asked for a beer team! If you haven’t heard the story about the emu or the marshmallows yet, speak to one of the kids…….

Fun and adventure under the stars

I was my privilege to travel to Nepabunna Community with our school group of 52 students and 8 adults last week. It was a week of adventure, surprises, discoveries and fun. Students gazed at stars, collected rock samples, hiked to see ancient aboriginal rock art, learnt about Adnyamathanha Dreaming stories and explored the beautiful country. Being so far away from home can be hard but I was impressed with the resilience of all of the students and the support they gave each other throughout the trip. We were fortunate to work with 2 Aboriginal Cultural guides- Joelwyn and Deon during the week and to learn from them about their land and stories. Students also worked with the team from the Backyard Universe - Fraser, Lorraine and Alan to make models of the solar system, view planets and stars at high definition through amazing telescopes and notice more about the world above and below them.

We also made time to lend a hand to the community by cleaning around the cemetery, weeding the playground and planting shrubs. The students worked together to prepare meals, clean up dishes, to keep their own gear organised and hike further than they had ever done before! It was a week well spent creating lifelong memories and capable independent young people.

We are very grateful for the wonderful team of adults who supported the camp- Mark Zadow, Jarad Stanley, Colin Hackett, Lucy Cahill, Amie Teagle, Sarah Wright, Simon Lock and John our bus driver. I couldn’t have asked for a better team!

  • Knock out Football

    Congratulations to our combined

    Lobethal/Lenswood Knock out Football

team on their Great win yesterday against

Happy Valley. The final score was

    Lobethal 9-7-61 Happy Valley 2-5-17.

They will now play in the grand final date

    yet to be decided.

    WINNERS ARE GRINNERS!

$67.5 million funding boost to accelerate student achievement

The State Government will provide a $67.5m funding boost to public school students who have been identified as needing

more help to lift literacy and numeracy across the state.

Primary school students who are not achieving expected standards or growth will benefit from dedicated intervention

    funds provided to their school.

Under the 4 year $67.5m Literacy and Numeracy First plan, schools will use extra funds on high-impact teaching strategies

to lift student achievement. Schools will use a range of evidence-based teaching strategies, including extra teachers,

literacy and numeracy coaches or targeted programs. Improvement strategies will be overseen by a newly-established

    independent panel of education experts.

The recent NAPLAN results show there has been improvement in numeracy across all year levels in the state, but more

work is needed to lift achievement to a higher level for all students in numeracy and in literacy.

The targeted funding – for students in public primary schools – is designed to lift achievement and modernise the state’s

public education system to prepare young South Australians for jobs of the future.

We currently use Literacy and Numeracy funding to employ our talented team of Curriculum School Services Officers-

Amie, Michelle, Amelia, and Kerry as the Student Intervention Officer who work alongside teachers in classrooms and

facilitate specific programs. We offer 3 learning intervention programmes (Read Up Years 1-2, Leveled Literacy

Intervention Years 3-6 and Quicksmart Years 5-7) for students who need an extra boost to progress in Literacy and

Numeracy. With more funds, we can offer more places to students. Once we know what funding Lobethal PS is to receive

from 2018, we will share how the additional funds will be allocated.
