Objectives

What are the objectives for this project?The main objective of this project is to promote the band I have created and write about how I would promote them and who their target audience is and also talk about merchandice and social media sites.Who do you want to target? I am aiming to target fans of punk, pop punk and post hardcore genres and music. I also want to aim my project at a younger audience aged between 17-25How many records do you want to sell?I am aiming to sell around 500,000 or possibly 200,00 to begin with keeping in mind that it is a new band.What would make this a successful exercise?Having the public and fans share the band and the band becoming well known and popular within their genre.

Think SMART

Specific: The main aim of this project is to promote the band I have created and their new album, I also need to show ways of what I will do to promote them and how.

Measureable: I will measure the effect by seeing how popular the band are and how much profit they have made from their new album, tickets and clothing.

Achievable: To help get the band popular I need to promote them by creating adverts, clothing and creating events such as VIP tickets and signing events to make the band and their music more popular.

Realistic: I could do all of this with the right materials and build up the ways we promote the band and the music as we make more money.

Time-related: There is no timescale I don’t think for this project, just until the band decide to split up.

Who is the audience for this band?The audience for this band are aged between 17-25 who are interested in pop punk or post-hardcore music.What age are they?17-25What do they look like?Commonly dressed in punk clothing including dark colours, band t-shirts and metal. Piercings and tattoos.Why do they like this band?Because they produce pop punk and post-hardcore music and are similar to existing punk bands.Who else do they like?My Chemical Romance, Pierce The Veil, You Me At Six, The Smiths, Iron Maiden.

MediaWhat media will you use and why? To promote my band I think it would be best to use TV advert, website adverts and possibly pages made on social media sites. I think these are the best methods because it gets the message across to my target audience as they are made up of a young age group who will use the internet and social media sites such as Facebook and Tumblr.What magazines might they get in to? I think magazines such as Kerrang! or Rocksound would be more suited to my band due to the genre they are in and what music they are producing. I also think that more of the target audience would read these magazines and this would also promote the band.What TV channels would they be on? Channels such as Scuzz or MTV Rocks again due to the fact that they are in the punk, post hardcore genre and these channels feature bands which are in the same or similar genres.Which radio stations would play their music? I think that Kerrang! radio would play the biggest part in promoting the band and playing their music as they play music based around the rock genre which my band are similar to.Who would they give interviews to? I don’t think that my band would give interviews to popular chart companies who promote chart music and opposite genres but I think people such as Alternative Press and Rocksound.Which forms of social media would you use? Mainly websites such as Facebook and Tumblr because people can share the band information and music when it is released, also YouTube to upload and share music videos.How would you use social media?I would use it to promote the band, the music and the merchandise by getting fans to share news and information about the band with their friends, I would also hope to have adverts at the side of Facebook pages.

What is the message you want to communicate about this band?That music can help and for fans to reach whatever they want to do.What is the main selling point of the band and the album? EventsWhat events would you put on as part of the promotion of this band and album?Concerts would be the main event to promote both the band and the album, I would also like to organise giveaways and competitions for fans where the prizes include free tickets to any of the bands headline concerts with a +1 and another prize of having a meal with the band backstage at any one of their concerts before the show plus bundles of signed goodies.Would they play small secret gigs?As a fan of many bands already I know how much it would mean to be able to experience a small intimate gig with the band, knowing this I would like to let fans have this opportunity but not have a price for tickets because most bands charge high amounts for events like this but I would like to charge normal amounts with limited numbers of tickets.Would they appear for a signing in a flagship record store?I would like the band to do signings as it lets the fans get close and experience something new although it is hard to get these kinds of things organised I think it is fun for fans and also helps to promote the band and the music to the general public who would be in the shop too.Would they play on TV chat shows?I think it is best for bands to be a little challenging to get hold of to play for special events as it makes fans feel better if they ever get to meet them or see them in concert, although this would be a good way to promote the band and the new album I think it would be best if they didn’t do chat shows too often.Would they go on a huge arena tour?These are some of the best shows for fans as there are a lot of tickets available and most of the time the atmosphere is amazing, I would like the band to do only a few arena tours though, I think small venue tours are the best.What other events and happenings could you create to raise the public profile of the band?Events such as signings are always good but also TV, radio and print adverts in music shops and on the street is also a good way and surprise concerts.

Internal motivation

What is the motivation behind this project?The motivation is that all members of the band have wanted to begin a career in music from a very young age and trying to get an individual new sound into the music industry and to get a message out to fans.What is it an important project for you?It will help to promote my name in the music industry to hopefully set up a record label and help manage other bands and help to promote them with the skills I have learnt from this band.Why is it an important project for the band?All members of the band have wanted to get a job in the music industry from a very young age and have wanted to spread their music with fans and their message.

Motivation of media

Why would the media be interested in this project?Because it is new, fresh music that is different and interesting from other artists and music that are popular now and because the members may become a sex symbol towards the female fans which is also a good selling point and promotional point for the media.Which parts of the media or media products (be specific) would be interested in the project?Music, radio and magazine print industries are the top media departments that I think will be the most interested because most of the target audience are interested in these media departments.
