Getting Started. Mark the desired length in the center of one leg with a dot.

TIP: After marking one side, fold the pants together and mark the other. The marks will match up perfectly.

• Using a sharp scissors, start cutting about ½ inch lower then your mark shows. This will leave room to even out the lengths and create the frayed edge look.

• Try them on to see if they lay evenly. If not, make any necessary changes to even the lengths.

STYLE TIPDon’t have jeans you want to cut up? Head to your local thrift store to pick up a recession friendly pair!

1. To get faded denim, pour 1-2 cups of bleach into the tub or bucket and let soak.

TIP: Depending on how dark your jeans start out, leave them in until your desired shade is achieved.

Be A Recessionista Make Your Own Distressed Denim Shorts

It’s fun and easy to get this look!

Start Styling. Now for the fun part!

2. To get dirty denim, let the shorts sit in two cups of ground coffee overnight or a cup of warm water and some dirt clumps

TIP: Let the denim sit for or a couple of hours.

3. Rinse jeans after styling is completed and wash.

4. To distress jeans run a steak knife over the edges to get a frayed look. To create holes, place a block of wood under the spot where you want the hole and rigorously sand shorts with sandpaper. Not enough Time? Take a pointed tool and rip the fabric.

TIP: The next time you wash them, they will begin to fray.

5. Make them your own by adding embellishements, patches or draw right on them!

You just made your own pair of trendy cut-off shorts!

How Celebs Look Great & How You Can TooTricks of the Trade: 20 Items to Include in Your Own Personal Prop Kit“Working in the fast paced world of fashion styling has taught me some invaluable tricks of the trade. It is the job of the fashion stylist to be prepared to solve any fashion crisism, making the prop kit the stylist’s most important tool. The Prop kit is a treasure chest of solutions to fashion emergencies & wardrobe malfunctions of all kinds.”

1. Double Sided Tape Great for discreetly holding in place that wandering bra strap or plunging neckline. (Toupee tape also works)

2. T-Shirt Friendly Bras (Black, Nude & White)

For girls with bigger chests, Celebrity Stylist, Annabel Tollman recommends Panache Bras.(www. FigLeaves.com)

3. Thongs (Black, Nude & White) Because panty lines are unattractive. Period.

4. SPANX No matter your size, SPANX does wonders.

5. Lint Roller To remove the dust and wayward strands of hair that detract from a polished look.

7. Static Guard There is nothing more unattractive than a woman whose skirt is riding up her leg!

10. Seam Ripper Comes in handy, especially when you get stuck inside a broken zipper!

6. Safety Pin The name says it all.

8. Ribbon Instantly adds a waistline, transforming an oversized top or shapeless shirt!

11. De-Piller To keep your knits looking fabulous. My personal preference is The Sweater Stone to avoid accidentally cutting the fibers!

9. Embroidery Scissors Banish those loose threads and tags.

13. Packet of Sewing Needles and Black and White Thread You never know when you will need to secure a button, or reattach a hook and eye.

16. Slips (Black, Nude & White) Perfect for under dresses or sheer tops.

17. Heel Grips, Moleskin & Foot Petals Because no matter what it takes, we’re going to make those heels work!

18. Black Tights Forget what your mother told you, nude tights are unattractive. Black semi sheer tights are practical and sexy.

19. Handheld Steamers Buy a handheld steamer, I recommend the Jiffy Steamer which retails for about $80.00. You will save such an incredible amount of time and money on dry cleaning that it will pay for itself!

20. Keep a Digital Camera Handy Document those fool proof outfits makes getting dressed a lot easier.

12. Baby Wipes To keep your knits looking fabulous. My personal preference is The Sweater Stone to avoid accidentally cutting the fibers!

14. Camisoles (Black, Nude & White) Great for under sheer tops.

15. Tanks (Black, Nude & White) Generally cotton ones with a slightly wider strap look best.
