Characteristics
The butterfly's color is orange, black, yellow and white.
Habitat
In the winter the Monarch goes down to Mexico. In the summer the Monarch goes to America.
Monarch butterflies live in fields and gardens.
Diet
When the Monarch is a caterpillar it eats a special fruit called milkweed.
When the Monarch is a butterfly it eats the nectar of the flower.
Behavior
When the birds want to eat the butterfly, the butterfly changes to match the color of the flower.
Defense
The Monarch butterfly is poisonous. The birds will get sick if they eat it.
Life Cycle
First the Monarch is an egg. Then it is a caterpillar. Then it is in the green pupa called a chrysalis. Then it is an adult butterfly.
