“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.” John 15:12

Many people have birthmarks that are unique to them, whether moles or other kinds of unique identification
marks. I have an interesting one on my right ankle! Designers are known by their trademarks. They have logos
of various kinds that even if you don’t read the name, it becomes clear who made it. God likewise has estab-
lished a mark, a very clear mark, by which His children who have been filled with the Holy Spirit ought to be
known. LOVE is the birthmark of all followers of Jesus! Without the birthmark of love, other people really
don’t know who you are. I am reminded of the hymn, W e Are One in The Spirit, with one of the lyrics: “Yes
they’ll know we are Christians by our love”. What does this commandment to love one another really mean?
In St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he says,
…..if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all that I possess
to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love
is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not
easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It
always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:2-7)

I have two close friends, Gail and Deb, who happen to be sisters, who have taught me what this love looks like.
They had a niece named, Lindsay, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a very young age. She needed
surgery and the family sought to send her to the best doctors in the country. Money was a concern, so Gail orga-
nized a town-wide fundraiser to cover the cost of the enormous medical bills. Lindsay had that surgery and did
well for a few years until the disease began to rear its ugly head and Lindsay’s health began to rapidly decline.
Gail was the first to come forward and offer to donate a lobe of her lungs to Lindsay. She willingly risked her
own life to try and save her niece’s life. Then a few years later, Lindsay needed a new kidney and Deb came
forward and donated one of her kidneys and later on, a lobe from her lungs. After all these surgeries and trans-
plants, Lindsay began to thrive and live a fairly normal life. She participated in sports and was even a cheer-
leader! All seemed to go well until she turned 25 and the symptoms returned. Her family then organized another
major fundraising dinner to try and raise enough money so that Lindsay could be seen by one of the leading
specialists in this field. Lindsay was at this dinner and she got up and spoke about her disease and about the in-
credible love her entire family had showered upon her all her life. I will never forget her words, “Some people
are lucky enough to have the support and love of people around them, but I actually have family members who
give up their body parts for me!” Sadly, Lindsay died a few weeks later, but the legacy of love she left behind
will never be forgotten! In today’s gospel Jesus calls us to “go and bear much fruit that will remain…”. Gail
and Deb willingly put aside concerns for their own well-being to save the life of their beloved niece. The fruit
of that selfless love continues to grow and multiply in each of their children and grandchildren and friends who
are fortunate enough to know them. God may not be calling you to donate one of your body parts, but He is
calling each of us to love one another as HE loves us. How can you and I put this love into action today so that
all will know WE are Christians by our love?
May others be abundantly blessed by your love,
Bonnie Spurr

PASTORAL REFLECTION
Kati Bourque
As a member of the PPC, I would like to
reach our confirmed teens and young
adults and keep them engaged in their
faith. I want to support the parish as we
continue to learn new ways to reach out to our
parishioners.
Zach Blaszak
I am honored and humbled to be nominated
to serve on the St. Michael Parish Pastoral
Council. My wife, Vicki, and I along with
our three children love our parish and
school. St. Michael Parish is our home.
Whether it be in person, virtual or through our school pro-
grams, we have always felt connected to God through our
St. Michael family. I hope to share and grow in faith with
members of our community as we return to the physical
church in particular the youth, young adults and young
families.
Bruce Barclay
I view the Council as an opportunity to join
other caring individuals in developing and
implementing ways to help St. Michael to
not only recover from the pandemic, but
build overall parishioner commitment. In so
doing, I believe the Parish can be capable of addressing its
Mission better than ever.
Catherine (Cathy) Dawson
In recent years, I have been participating in
parish life beyond Mass. I love the energy
and community here! I will bring to the
Parish Council more and varying ways to
invite others to participate, not for life, but in small and
valuable ways. We make St. Michael’s vibrant.
Leanna Mansour
As a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael’s, I
would love to be part of the continued
development of this wonderful community
by contributing a new perspective to the
already dynamic team working to enrich our
lives. I am excited to find creative ways to help strengthen
our Parish in light of the ever changing culture of today.
Susan Green
My goals and objectives will be to bring the
voices, needs and concerns of parishioners
by being an active member soliciting ideas
and feedback to make St. Michael’s even
greater. A key goal is to enhance CCD
youth education and formation programs to help drive more
student engagement and enrollment.
Ryan Foley
As part of the Parish Council, it will be my
goal to collaborate with the Council to help
encourage programs and initiatives which
bring enriching opportunities into our parish
and our lives.
John Hulburt
I look forward to being a sound advisor for the
council to ensure that St. Michael's continues
to be an outstanding member of the surround-
ing communities. The last 8 years I have
taught confirmation classes and have found
great joy in trying to prepare the students for that day they
receive the Holy Spirit in their Confirmation.
Judy Arnost
As a member of St. Michael’s Pastoral
Council, I will assist in any way I can to
maintain the strength and support of a
community that has come to love being part
of our parish.
John Houlihan
Having experienced the privilege of raising a
family within the St. Michael’s community, I
hope to pay that blessing forward by helping
the spirit of our “Miracle on Main Street”
thrive so that we continue to be a welcoming
but spiritually challenging community whose actions
demonstrate their commitment to Christ.
Blanca Mambo
I would like to
- Involve my family more in the
Eucharistic life
- Focus on how to involve more children
into the calling to priesthood
- Involve more young people to serve God
by showing compassion to the elderly and to families in
need and to follow Christ through their Christian life.

I would strive to serve as a conduit between
the parish and the pastor. I would continue
making efforts to engage young people and
families in the surrounding community.

I would enjoy being involved in the Parish
Council to assist in the plans and/or
decisions as discussed to continue making
St. Michael Parish the best in the
Archdiocese.
Steve Seide
I want St. Michael to be a parish that all
generations find learning, support and
friendship/community to help us with our
journey on earth.
Mike Souza
If selected, I welcome working with
Fr. Deeley and the talented, passionate
people of the parish to more effectively
reach the disenfranchised of our community
with the love of Jesus and the welcoming
kindness and goodness of St. Michael Parish.
Joan Thompson
As a convert to Roman Catholicism, I
realized the first time that I received the
Eucharist that I had finally found my spiritual
home. The church, and in particular, Saint
Michael Parish, has been a beacon of faith
and strength in times of great joy and happiness, but also
during challenging times.
A former pastor once said that if a church is not growing it
is dying. Special attention must be directed to the younger
members of our parish who are the future of the church.
As a teacher, it is so apparent that young people must be
listened to, validated, and acknowledged to keep them
connected to their faith!
Steven Terra
My main goal is to serve and learn how I
can be of most help to the Council. Beyond
this, an area of focus would be to increase
the activities and outreach to those in
college and young adults to ensure that
Jesus is at the center of their lives.
Debra Sullivan
I am so honored to have been nominated for
the St. Michael’s Parish Pastoral Council. It
is amazing the way God works. My four
children are getting older and more independ-
ent, freeing up some time for me. I have been
feeling idle and contemplating my next
challenge. Funny what comes your way.
If given the opportunity to be a part of this important
council, I will come with an open heart, a willingness to
learn, and I will lend a hand wherever needed.
Mark Sullivan
As a member of the Parish Council, I hope to
bring my life experience to serve
Father Deeley and the rest of the parish staff
in furthering its mission of evangelization. I believe in the
Parish’s mission and try to live the mission in my everyday
life.
Jim Terlizzi
I believe that the parish community here at
St. Michael’s is one of the big reasons that
the North Andover community is a great
place to live. If you want, I would be happy
to serve you and the Church at large with
whatever gifts that I have been given.
Daniel Norris
Often I find that what I do best is to support
people and facilitate their success. In the first
year, I will likely acclimate myself to the pro-
jects going on with the council. I will volun-
teer my leadership skills and creative thinking
to promote success in parish projects. I would like to see
an expansion in opportunities for Adoration, and perhaps a
re-configuring of the Confession schedule, and also more
in-parish retreat opportunities.
Maribel Ortiz
My goals will be to bring my collection of
experiences to help our parish grow and to
help new Catholics to remain engaged in the
faith following the path they started. Also,
to help others thrive in the faith and become
like the tree that produces rich fruits, which serves as a
powerful statement of evangelization. I will look forward
to work as a team member in helping our Parish promote
and live our mission statement.
Anthony (Tony) Onello
Our family has enjoyed deeper involvement
in parish life. Our daughter, Megan, as
Cantor, my wife, Jennifer, as Holiday
Violinist, our son, Scott, and me as Safety
Guides. We hope that our presence has
helped the Parish. I have more time and
energy to offer. I hope to honor my nomination to Pastoral
Council with sincere effort if chosen.

In the case of our discovering that someone at Mass tests positive for COVID-19, we want to be able to inform
all of you so that, in consultation with your physician, you can take the appropriate steps. We will make any
announcement of a positive test on the parish website, Facebook & bulletin board, so check on a regular basis.
Prayers for all who have been affected by this disease and prayers for the end of the pandemic!
