June 15, 2012 Dear Members of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.,

In preparation for National Elections at the 40th Biennial National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the 2012 National Nominating Committee is both excited and pleased to present the National Candidates’ Profile Booklet, featuring the dynamic members who seek to assume the top leadership roles in our organization.

Per the National Bylaws, every two years the membership elects a new National Executive Board to conduct the business and oversee the operations of Jack and Jill between its National Conventions.

This document has been prepared to assist you in selecting the 2012-2014 National Officers. It is intended to provide the membership with a glimpse of each candidate’s service within our organization, as well as her character, accomplishments and preparedness to hold national office. It will also provide you with a sense of their work outside of Jack and Jill and their beliefs about leadership.

Each candidate brings a wealth of experience from a variety of professional fields and Jack and Jill service. Please take time to read through all of the profiles so that your chapter can make an informed decision when asked to cast its ballot.

We look forward to a robust and spirited campaign in Philadelphia, and appreciate your continued support of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Best regards,

Professional and/or Leadership Experience Relevant To This Office As President of the Baton Rouge Chapter, I became acutely aware of the opportunities to expand my advocacy for children, and it was then that my professional and Jack and Jill experiences were intertwined. My thirty-year legal career has placed me in the favorable position of articulating pertinent issues in the field of juvenile justice and human rights. I am a vocal stakeholder in my community, serving on three Boards that direct social and legal agendas for children. My political prowess is delivered testifying on children's issues before the Louisiana Legislature. My work on the National Executive Board has allowed for keen insight discovering the possibilities for Jack and Jill. I am seeking the office of National President because my entire career has focused on the betterment of children's lives and I am well positioned to lead Jack and Jill to its preeminence in being the principal organization advocating for all children.

Reasons For Seeking This National Office

My reason for seeking this office can be summed up in three words: “Our Beautiful Children”.

Jack and Jill is uniquely positioned to make a positive difference in the lives of African-American children in a purportedly “post-racial” world. I have the experience, organizational knowledge and passion to take J&J to a new level of boldness, brilliance and vibrancy by focusing on our mission and the maxim ‘Members are our greatest assets, Children are our greatest legacy’. I am inspired and “in spirit” to collaboratively lead this organization … to consistently accomplish what is possible when we are at our best.

Professional and/or Leadership Experience Relevant To This Office

My professional experience includes a 25-year career as a Technology Sales and Marketing Executive with IBM, focusing on Fortune 100 accounts. Relevant to the office of National President, this experience engendered business acumen, exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, relationship management, communication, team building and business development skills. This experience developed my ability to achieve tactical results while working towards strategic goals, and the capacity to appreciate and leverage diverse personalities and competencies which is a vital skill in leading a volunteer organization. My work experience also gave me a clear understanding of how technology can improve organizational productivity.

The breadth and depth of proven leadership experience at every level of J&J (Chapter President, Regional Director, National Vice President, J&J Foundation Board) has equipped me to understand the issues, challenges and ‘learn the lessons’ required to successfully shoulder the job of National President. I have a history of proven leadership, effective team building, budget management and making tough decisions. I am equipped to execute necessary change.

Last but not least, my job as ‘mom-in-chief’ to Jordan (13), Juleon (18) and Jason (26) for over 23 years in J&J has afforded invaluable experience to serve and lead this wonderful organization.

Thirteen Years in Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Son: Trevor King 11/29/96

Reasons For Seeking This National Office

I am seeking the office of National VP because of my passion for the organization. As the RD of our largest region, I have proven leadership, motivating a team that increased cluster/workday/conference participation for Mothers, Teens and Children. I seek to increase our membership, but more importantly retain the membership of our valued Mothers. Through retention, there is also a need to develop chapter leadership skills to ensure organizational growth and full chapter participation. Create opportunities for new members (2 years or less tenure) to fully engage through periodic webinars, structured mentorship programs and standard membership modules. By implementing strategic programs, our National organization will continue to grow.

Jack and Jill Involvement

I joined Jack and Jill of America, Inc. in 1998 when my son was 2. I have served in several leadership positions during my tenure. Having served as chapter President for 4 years, Vice President, Membership chair, Program Director, Gala chairperson and two years as Region Teen Advisor.

I've represented Jack and Jill in the community as a judge for the North Jersey Spelling Bee for the past 5 years.

I attended cluster workdays as a new member which fueled my passion for the organization. I also paid for and attended teen conference as a chapter President in order to fully support the teens in my chapter even though my son was only 9 at the time. I was elected Regional Director in 2009 and re- elected to a second term in 2011. It has been my pleasure to serve the organization on all levels.
