The 1,000 Steps Kokoda rack Memorial Walk is a unique tourist spot located in the Dandenong Ranges National Park.
The track was created in the early 1900’s made from the trunks of tree ferns laid along the wetter areas of the track to make the climb a little easier. These were replaced by wooden palings before the more permanent concrete steps were installed in 1950.
The walk (climb) is roughly 2.8 km’s long and will take about an hour to get to One Tree Hill, a small picnic ground at the top of the walk.
Essential for the walk are a bottle of water and a good pair of walking shoes.

Ingredients
6 large ripe fi gs, cut into 2mm slices12 thin slices quality prosciutto1/2 cup crumbled blue cheeseCrostini, slicedExtra virgin olive oilFreshly ground black pepper
Method
Preheat oven to 180ºC. Placed sliced crostini on a baking tray and drizzle with olive oil.
Grill crostini for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and spread each hot crostini with crumbled blue cheese and season as desired. Layer with a slice of prosciutto and pieces of fi g.
Garnish with capers and a sprinkling of fresh thyme.
