What is the University Placement Service (UPS)? • Select up to 3 insurance universities
• 40 Partner Universities
• Online application – easy to use
• Help and support from a UPS Co-ordinator (me)
for insurance (back-up) university choices
• Free
• Guaranteed placement if pass course at 40%
(60% overall with 55% every component in English)
and have 80% attendance
• If I inform you that you must make a UPS application, then it is
compulsory to make one. If not, you have the option to apply.

Your details will be uploaded onto our secure website – UPS Online
A username & password & the UPS website will be sent to your email soon
If you do not receive your details, please contact your UPS Co-ordinator
Check your details are correct – edit and add details
Add details of your previous qualifications
Upload PDF copies of your certificates & transcripts
of your high school/ university, and passport & visa pages
Add a personal statement
Student Dashboard
• When you log-in to the UPS, you will see your student dashboard.
• This is a quick guide to see how far in the application process you are.
Checking Personal Details Check your personal details are correct: Name, nationality, passport number, address, contact email and telephone numbers, date of birth.
Select Yes or No as to if you have a disability or criminal conviction
Personal Statement • At least 15 lines (300-600 words)
• Reasons for choosing your subject
• Long term career and study plans
• What makes you a good student
• Your skills, achievements, hobbies and interests
• Check grammar, spelling, punctuation etc
• Examples of Personal Statements can be found on the “Help” section of UPS Online
• You MUST write this yourself. Do NOT copy any sections from other students or websites. Universities test for plagiarism and you can get reported for it. It can result in an automatic rejection for most universities.

Adding Qualifications & Certificates Add details of your previous schools and study in the UK
(NOT LIC). Upload certificates, transcripts and translations of qualifications.
This is at the bottom of the UPS page – NOT in the ‘edit’ section, but below your personal details.
Scroll down the ‘personal information’ section to the bottom of the page
Add certificates and details by clicking the buttons
Upload the certificate you gained: choose file, write description and Upload.

Choosing an Insurance University:
Subject • Related to your current progression course and at
the correct level (postgraduate or undergraduate).
– Foundation Certificate: choose Undergraduate course
(e.g. BA/BSc/LLB).
– Graduate Diploma: choose a Masters course
(e.g.MA/MSc/LLM)
– Major that interests you
– Related to your course at UoL
– Rankings: universities ranked by subject

• Course details on UPS: click the links to the university websites
• Course should be similar to your progression route
• Check the details of the course, as some course names can be misleading
• Cost of the course
• Term dates
• Grade requirements for the course: must be lower than your host university progression requirements
Location
• Busy City or quiet Town?
• Check the Campus
• How close amenities (shops etc) are to
accommodation & campus
• Research the cities of UPS Universities
• Cost of Living in UK locations (e.g. London
expensive; North generally cheaper than
South)

Submitting your application
Submitting your application: Deadline
• Deadlines will be confirmed later in the year
when you have your UPS Presentation.
When you have submitted your UPS
application: • Your UPS Co-ordinator will check through it
• If something needs changing on your application, the UPS-Co-ordinator
will send you a message on UPS (you should also receive an email)
• Log-in to your UPS every day to check your university offers, messages &
updates
• DO NOT ignore any messages/emails from the UPS Co-ordinator –the
advice is to help YOU get the places that you want!
• Complete any recommended changes (from your UPS Co-ordinator)
before the set deadline

Offers from Universities
• You receive an email message when a university responds to
your application or sends you a message
• You must respond to all requests from universities, if they
need further information from you
• If you need help, please contact your UPS Co-ordinator
• Universities make conditional offers with grade requirements
• Universities can take time to respond: usually within 1 month of
the final deadline UPS applications can be submitted by students
What happens after exam results?
OPTION 1 You have met the entry requirements for your programme at the University of Liverpool (e.g. 60%)
You receive you unconditional offer from the University of Liverpool
OPTION 2 You have not met the entry requirements for the University of Liverpool (e.g. 55%)
You advise the UPS Coordinator which of your 3 choices you prefer
Your insurance university will confirm your place if you have met the grade & send details of how to get your offer letter, CAS etc. Usually, you need to complete an application form
If you do not meet the entry requirements for
ANY of your UPS insurance choices:
• You will be entered into UPS Clearing
• UPS Clearing operates after results day
• UPS universities log into the UPS system and make
unconditional offers based on results
• You can then decide which offer to accept and confirm
your place
Pass academic modules, but not English?
• ‘International Year One (IYO)’, post-results (Foundation students only):
– ‘Fast-Track’ to University!
– 1st year university modules, with support modules
– In university’s college for the 1st year of your degree
– If you pass the required level after 1st year, you progress directly into 2nd year at the university
– 80% attendance minimum
– NOT available at University of Liverpool
– Available at NTIC, UWEBIC, UBIC, BUIC
Finally – key points:
1. Check your emails to receive the UPS website & login soon
2. Check & update your details when you log into UPS Online
3. Add previous qualifications: certificates/transcripts
4. Add your passport & visa
5. Write your Personal Statement
6. Select up to 3 insurance course applications (with lower grades than you need for UoL)
7. Submit your UPS application by your deadline
