NUMBERSTHOUGHTS

f ive concepts that where sent to Thames and Hudson, Bologna. They thought the st rongest ideas where habitat and separat ing chapters into numbers , i t r ied to combine them.

To gage more feedback i

regularly uploaded screen-

shots to instagram. This gave

me an insight into how i could

change the design. This spread was not approved

by Thames and Hudson as a

contents page but, yes to

a

spread in the book. It

seemed

the world was too confusing.

BUSY

So I worked on the contents

page and decided to go back

to the numbers spread and

develop it, this was approved

for the contents.

BRIEF

to des ign a concept cover to send to Bologna Thames + Hudson.

Bearing in mind, the cover

is the first thing people see,

it had to include the regular

characters from Okido.

Keeping the coverconsistent was key.

to des ign a double page spread for the book.

THE FINAL WORK

I am massively happy, working at Okido has taught me that you can have a professional environment while working in a home! If anything I think I worked better because i wasn’t afraid to ask for feedback. My goal going forward is that I would love to free-lance for another one of Okido’s issues.I gained great skills working to meet a dead-line, even with a a broken foot in the snow.

Also i have gained invaluable

advice over lunch, for going

forward with my career.

CRAFTFAIR

7APR

£The goal for the craft fair, was firstly to produce some happy lilttle prints and notebooks that would hopefully sell! The second goal was to get our name out there as crafters and illustrators, and our work noticed. the third goal was to observe how Porti-co gallery handled having that many people where there and to gage the at-mosphere.

+

First goal reached, things sold! second goal reached; An illustrator from Dorling Kindersley Publishing, ask me and Holly to get in contact about freelancing! Third goal, humm, research need to be collated between all of us.

SELF INITIATED

CHARACTER BASED CHILDRENS BOOK

I had a chat with Alex from Okido, and he saw some of the illustrations I do in my spare time. He put forward to me that i should try illustrating + writing a children’s book. Get it printed cheaply overseas, and send it out to various places.

Ai + Ps

I am also hoping these illustrations could feed into my final major project.

PERSONAL + PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

As I do a lot of character design work, i really should be able to animte them. So i have dedicated 1 hour a night to tutorials in after effects . I reckon this will help me when i come to get a job...full pack-age.

SELF INITIATED

By social media, i have been

able to get great feedback

and suggestions, which have

been so helpful.

The goal is to be able to aminate Miki + the Monsters by June 2013.

I have realised that after effects is not like illustrator, it way more fiddly. Also my learning after ef-fects, it as taught me to use il-lustrator better, by using layers.

PER-SONCLUB

NOW

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT + DUO

Holly and I both illustrate charac-ters, both digtally and print. So we decided to set up an illustration club exclusively for people that make outlandish characters. We are hoping to make a monthly zine/publication of submissions.
