Evaluation of various IGS programmes in TSP areas is under progress. 5. Need assessment study of dropout and out of school children in the age group of 5 - 14 years is under progress. TRAINING & CONFERENCE

1) A two days (Jan' 4-5, 2013) Orientation Training Programmes o n “ R T I A c t & R u l e s f o r P I O s & A P I O s ” f o r PIOs/APIOs/Appellate Authority of Offices under ST & SC Development Department was conducted with 28 participants.

2) Ten Orientation Training Programmes, one day each on “FRA-2006, Amendment Rules-2012, PCR & POA, ORV and School Management Planning” were conducted for DWOs, ADWOs and WEOs with 314 participants from 7th Jan to 1st Feb, 2013.

3. A four days (Feb' 5-8, 2013) Orientation Training Programme on “Sustainble integrated agricultural development programmes in ITDAs & Micro Projects” for SHG members of ITDA & Micro Projects was organized during the Adivasi Mela 2013 with 78 participants.

4. A six days (Feb' 22-27, 2013) training programme on SIP as per RTE Norms in collaboration with NUEPA, New Delhi for Ashram School Headmasters & Head Mistress was conducted with 42 participants.

5. A one day (Mar' 1, 2013) orientation training on “FRA 2006, Amendment Rules 2012, PCR & POA, ORV and School Management Planning” for DWOs, ADWOs & WEOs was conducted with 29 participants.

6. A one day (Mar' 4, 2013) Orientation Training on “FRA 2006, Amendment Rules 2012, PCR & POA, ORV and School Management Planning” for left out WEOs was conducted with 9 participants.

7. A three days training programme was arranged (Mar' 12-14, 2013) on “ Constitutional Safeguards and Protective Legislation for SCs & STs” for newly elected PRI members with 28 participants.

8. A three days (Mar' 15-17, 2013) PRI leadership training for newly elected PRI members was conducted with 28 participants.

9. A three days (Mar' 20-22, 2013) Orientation Training Programme on “Sustainable integrated agricultural development programmes in ITDAs and Micro Projects” for Tribal Youth of ITDA & Micro Projects was conducted with 21 participants.

10. A one day (Mar' 23, 2013) training on “PESA Draft Role, Odisha” for representatives of NGO was conducted with 67 participants.

Government of Odisha have selected two tribal representatives belong to Juang Tribe (PVTG) from Juang Development Agency, Gonasika to visit New Delhi to witness 26th January 2013 Republic Day Parade with Sri A. K. Gomango. DD, SCSTRTI, Bhubaneswar as per request of MoTA. During their stay at New Delhi they also visited Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Parliament House, Lotus Temple, Air Force Museum etc

Tribal Museum of this insititute is unique of its kind in the whole country. It is internationally recognized for display of art and crafts, shrines, heritage huts, and activities of different tribal communities of the state relating to museum movement. Its major attractions that attract the visitors mostly from different foreign nations, include i) Galleries of Tribal Art and Artifacts with Touch Screen Kiosks and life-size Tribal Statues, ii) The Sacred Arena of Tribal Shrine Crafts, iii) Tribal Habitats, iv) Film Shows on Tribal Life and Culture, v) Museum

Live Demonstration of Tribal Art and Crafts :Under Museum Movement One Live Demonstration of Tribal Arts and Crafts was organized in the Museum campus from 19th -26th February, 2013 and 18nos of Tribal Artists from three tribal communities such as Santal, Lanjia Saora and Gond participated and demonstrated their traditional paintings.

Ethnic status study on Radhi/Niary/Ghani/Keuta/Kaibarta community is under progress and its draft report is in final stage. Study on Ethnic ststus of Putiya community is also going on. The field study has already been completed. Report writing is under progress. With respect to determination of Caste Status, five Scrutiny Committee Meetings were held in the offices of RDCs at Berhampur, Sambalpur and Cuttack for disposal of Fake Caste Certificates cases.

RESEARCH

The following activities have been carried out during this period.1) A book named as "Micro Projects Profile" has been released during Annual Adibasi

Mela-2013.2) Four Photo Hand Books named “Jatapu”, “Poraja”, “Oran” and “Omanatya” has

been published.3) Quarterly News Letter for the quarter ending September-2013 and December-

2013 has been published.4) Journal of the institute named ADIVASI, Vol-52 (I & II) has been published.5) Data collection and compilation is going on for preparation of TSP Block Profile. 7) Provisional report of Income Basket and Expenditure Pattern of PTGs of Odisha,

submitted to Government.

DATA BANK and Statistical Cell A fumigation chamber has been installed in the library for treatment of documents of the library affected by silver ants and other insects. Since its installation treatment of 500 books has been made.During the quarter under reference 655 books have been added out of fund provided under CSP 2012-13 and balance amount available under different research studies undertaken by the institute.

SCSTRTI, the premier tribal Research Institute of the country has been contributing enormously to the existing research literature on tribal culture. Apart from carrying out empirical studies it also provided important input to the state administration for chalking out appropriate plan for sustainable development of 40% of Odisha's population who belong to the vulnerable section of the society. This oldest Tribal Research Institute of the country for over last six decades has been functioning as a think tank for the planners and administrators both at state and national level to formulate appropriate p o l i c i e s a n d s t r a t e g i e s f o r t r i b a l development and to mainstream millions of

Besides, SCSTRTI has also been conducting concurrent, midterm as well as end term monitoring and evaluation of various tribal development initiatives. Capacity building training to various kinds of stake holders have also been one of the prime responsibilities the institute is discharging.

This Institute also does documentation of pristine tribal culture and brings out publication which has been acclaimed world over.

SCSTRTI has set up a Tribal Museum with exquisite collection of Tribal Arts and

Artifacts. This Museum finds a place in the UNESCO Map of World Museums and is acknowledged as one of the best Tribal Museum.

SCSTRTI Newsletter is the mouth piece of the Institute which depicts all the important activities happened during a quarter. This Newsletter is the First issue of Volume-III and is expected to reach out to wider credence. I wish wider circulation and long life of the SCSTRTI Newsletter.
