‘Livable House’
The project, titled Adapting the Australian Dream, sought to create an alternative high density housing model through a reinterpretation of the key aspects of detached suburban dwellings. The concept of adaption and future-proofing were key design drivers. The proposal was a reaction to what I think is ‘unliveable’ about the offering of current apartments, which don’t cater for families or reflect the fact that families and housing groups are not static and ever increasingly, the nuclear family is not the norm. As such, the apartment design allows for adaption and facilitates the changing needs of its occupants.
