From the Pastor’s Desk

Happy Feast of the Baptism of the Lord! This weekend we reflect both upon Jesus’ baptism and our own baptism. We who have been baptized have received a tremendous, multifaceted gift. We were washed of Original Sin, incorporated into the life of the Church, and became temples of the Most Holy Trinity. Let us take time this week to give thanks to God for the love he pours out on us in this sacrament. Last month, I preached a homily in English on the Feast of the Holy Family. I did my best to outline some practical ways in which we can keep Christ at the center of our families, just as he was at the center of the Holy Family. Some people have asked for that list, so here it is: Have an image of Jesus in a prominent place in your home. Look for the face of Christ in your loved ones. Read the Scriptures as a family. Pray before meals – breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Offer the prayer “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph” with devotion each day. Abandon your family to the care of God the Father, and ask the Holy Spirit to anoint your family life. Smile to one another. Listen to one another. Forgive one another. Look for ways to accompany people outside the family who need love, especially the lonely and forgotten. May the Lord bless you throughout this week!

¡Feliz fiesta del bautismo del Señor! Este fin de semana reflexionamos tanto sobre el bautismo de Jesús como sobre nuestro propio bautismo. Los que hemos sido bautizados hemos recibido un don tremendo y multifacético. Fuimos lavados del pecado original, incorporados a la vida de la Iglesia, y convertidos en templos de la Santísima Trinidad. Tomemos tiempo esta semana para dar gracias a Dios por el amor que derrama sobre nosotros en este sacramento. El mes pasado, prediqué una homilía en inglés en la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Hice todo lo posible para trazar algunas maneras prácticas en las que podemos mantener a Cristo en el centro de nuestras familias, tal como él estaba en el centro de la Sagrada Familia.
