Hospital Report!

We hear that Cliff Davis is keeping the medical staff in check at Lions Gate Hospital where he is rest- ing up after an opera-tion . We all wish him a "Get well soon" message and hope to see him back in action A.S.A.P. It is understood that a small complication requires him being Air Cared for a cleanout of the exhaust system! Thelma is expecting his safe return home as we go to press so "Welcome home Cliff"

Postage Increases!!!

Due to the ever increasing snail-mail charges we now have a real problem with the postage on our Roster, Classical Gas and Little Classical Gas issues. Therefore we would appreciate the items being picked up at Club meetings and if you could also pick up for absent mem-bers, this would be a big help with the Club finances! Just let Al Riches know at the Club meeting and sign for the members whom you will deliver to.

 Dear friends and Jaguar fans,

You probably know that Peter Auto and the French Automobile Club de l’Ouest are organising next year a second retrospective of the mythic endurance race."LE MANS CLASSIC AN II" = 23 + 24 + 25 July 2004Detailed information is available on the internet site : www.lemansclassic.comFor the first retrospective in September 2002 our club, the "FRENCH JAGUAR DRIVERS CLUB", invited all Jaguar clubs to an international drink. We were really suc-cessful; 250 people exchanged about their common passion, ten clubs and seven European countries were represented.Back from Goodwood in September, where we met many Jag-enthusiasts, our board thought we could extend that initiative and we decided to :1 - Book bedrooms, not to far from the circuit, in two stars hotels (comfortable "Logis de France") and also three stars hotels ("Chateaux and Hotels de France").2 - Reserve famous restaurants for two dinners : one on Friday evening at "Sillé Le Guillaume" chosen for its French specialities, the second one on Saturday evening for a formal Gala dinner and a dancing party at "Loué sur Sarthe"3 - Ask some high-tech & luxury multinational companies for sponsoring, especially for the prizes of a Concours d’Elégance that will take place during the aperitif of the Gala ; the European spirit of the jaguarists plays at the evidence an important role in their decision., widely over usual barriers of insularity.4 - Support Peter Auto and lobby for the involvement of the Jaguar company as main sponsors of one of the paddocks for the week-end races. Some Jaguar clubs intend to come to Le Mans and have already booked their tickets. Your club will be of course invited to our "ritual" drink on saturday afternoon and if you are still hesitating, we offer two possibilities :Simple help for accommodation and full participation to the three day rally that we organise with the French Amicale Jaguar and the E-Type Register of the JDC.The rally starts on Friday in the center of Le Mans with two choices : visit of the old town and of a "faiencerie", or technical presenta-tion "pesage" of the race cars ,dinner at Sillé le Guillaume. Saturday on the circuit ,"pa-rade" for the vintage and classic cars, picnic lunch, Coys auction, international Jag drink, Gala at Loué sur Sarthe. Sunday on the circuit, picnic lunch , farewell after the race

prizes.Last year’s experience was great and all our members remember with intense emotion the straight line of the Hunaudières, Mulsanne, Arnage ... all famous places for the victories of the leaping cats.We look forward getting your comments and answer.Best regards. Let's see if we can beat that this year. Mike Powley asks us to get out those models that the family don't appreciate and bring them on down to the Club meeting for

display and prizes! The dis-plays are great and the models are always appreci-ated by the Club members. Let's see what you've got! It's fun and rewarding.

I think it was Mark Twain that said; "The rumour of our demise has been greatly exaggerated" The Okanagan British Car Club has just finalized the accounts from their 2003 10th Anniversary Rally In The Valley and it proved to be one of the most successful ever. The committee for the 2004 event has been working hard to finalize the details for this years show to be held in Penticton.Anyone who has been to a Penticton Rally will remem- ber the fantastic show venue on Beach Avenue. Both Friday and Saturday evening meals will be at the Convention Center, which of-fers plenty of room for the gath- ering and is within walking dis-tance from most of the Beach Motels. They will be mailing registration forms to previous participants soon or you can download one from their website. They look forward to seeing you in the Okanagan Valley this summer. Thanks for the information from-John GallantOkanagan British Car Club Coldstream BC www.obcc.ca

Information from LAMB(Langley Area Mostly British Car Club)

Information from our Club member Carole Borgens regarding the 2004 Langley GoodTimes Cruise-in.

"I have been contacted by Langley GoodTimes Cruise-In organizers to discuss an issue about the Vintage Car Club Automotive Swapmeet.  Following this discussion I took the opportu-nity to propose a British/European classic car display as a focus of the Cruise-In event for this and following years, and outlined some specific needs.  As a result, we have agreed on the following: All British/European cars, entering on the specially coded forms I will have available for you in May, will be located in the roped-off and security patrolled Concours area of Douglas Park.  These cars must war-rant inclusion in the Concours area (no rusty bodies please) and may be restored, proto-type cars, or in completely original condition which may include some flaky paint on a very aged but otherwise clean vehicle.  They should be collector plated but not necessary if condition appropriate. The LAMB group can be parked to-gether simply by pre-gathering and arriving at Douglas Park as a group.  Special consid-eration is given to the Concours cars - instructions included in your registration

package allow you to bypass the other staging areas and report directly to Douglas Park. There are usually 20 people monitoring the ropes and the cars in the park to ensure complete security for the vehicles. While on-line entering is standard, it remains to be seen if we can utilize this feature as special coding will be required on our forms to ensure placement in Douglas Park.  I will report on this and other details at our next meeting.  Do share this information with other clubs and individuals that you know as we have space for 50 to 100 British/European classics.  If we get these numbers it will be great as the usual number of domestic vehicles in the park is 127.  We can almost outnumber them, maybe." Thanks to Carole for the information.

Can anyone help?...... I was browsing the internet looking for some back issues of Cars & Car Conversions, which I just discovered is no longer published. Anyway, I'm hoping that some of your members might have some back issues. I am looking for copies (scanned PDFs or quality photocopies) of a series of articles about tuning MGBs that David Vizard wrote for Cars & Car Conversions. The series is called "Boosting the B". I have the first two parts of the series which appeared in the February 1979 and March 1979 issues, so I am looking for the remain-der of the series. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Neil Haggquist [email protected]

Got any ideas?.........

I am looking for web sites where I can find used Jaguars for sale in Canada, can you help me ? Thank you so much Marc T. [email protected]

Check this out........I'm not sure if you are familiar with a new TV show called DrivingTelevision or not. It airs on Global on Sundays at 4pm AST, but check your local listings for airtimes in your area. Anyway, in their Feb. 29th episode they did a segment on the Michelin Bibendum Challenge and this year, trucks and commercial vehicles took part in the challenge. One interesting piece of information mentioned in the broadcast was that commercial vehicles make up only 6% of all highway vehicles, yet consume 25% of all fuel sold. They also contribute 60% of all nitrous oxide emissions, more than 80% of the PM of all US vehicle emissions and no major engine manufacturer has declared its strategy for meeting 2007-2010 emission standards using diesel fuel.If you would like to see the segment that was aired, go to www.drivingtelevision.com, click on the Video Clips link on the left and click on the image of episode #104. You'll need Windows Media Player, version 8 or higher to view the clip.If you would like to know more about the Michelin challenge, the website ishttp://www.challengebibendum.com/challenge/front/affich.jsp?&lang=EN

If you’re not in the mood for a ballgame, our Canadian friends will be offering you a chance to play that very British game – Croquet. Just imagine yourself with a beverage in one hand, leaning on your croquet mallet! Rather do something else? We will have exclusive use of the Sudden Valley Adult Center where you can lie by the pool, have a swim, cook your burgers on the outside BBQ or use the inside cooking facilities with lots of room to sit and chat. All this and just a few steps away from each activity. If you want to stay on for dinner after the ballgame, Bob’s Burgers and Brew at the Sudden Valley Clubhouse offer hearty food at great prices. Reservations recommended.Preliminary admission price is just $5.00 per person (this covers facilities use fees, security and soft drinks. Bring your own burgers, buns, salads and beverages or whatever else takes your fancy). In addition there will be a commemorative Sudden Valley MG/Jaguar baseball cap offered for around $10.00 to S12.00 (limited numbers so purchase early in the day).Call Bruce MacCormack (360-676 7777) or email [email protected] for more details or directions to Sudden Valley. More news from the Rally in the Valley!

(Thanks to Jennifer Orum for this additional report)

Rally in the Valley SlalomSunday, July 4 Three Club members took part in the slalom which is longer than the JCNA version we're most familiar with. Okanagan British Car Club members are seriously into slalom, with an event every week over the summer. The fastest times for the day were in the 58 second range, with the group of fast finishers including some specially-prepared slalom cars. Our members' times were: Bob Sherman (1974 MGB) 107.06Marie Sherman (1974 MGB) 107.96Jennifer Orum (1970 MGB) 120.61 Some of the most exciting runs of the day came from Gordon Stewart of the Langley Area Mostly British Motoring Club (LAMB) with his 1968 Rolls Royce. A first time slalomer, he ripped around the course at an amazing speed for the 5500 lbs weight. The slalom organizers created a special class for him, and he thus took home the trophy for first in the Rolls Royce class.

CCMGC Confirmed As Hosts of NAMGAR GT 32 It was announced on Monday that Whistler will be the site of the North American MGA Register's 32nd annual meeting of MGA enthusiasts from all over the world, to be held in July 2007. The proposal to host this event presented by the CCMGC won over a proposal from a southern California club for the San Diego area. This event comes to the West coast only about every 5 years, and it was last in Canada in 1993. In 2005, on the 50th anniversary of the MGA, the event will be held in Michigan, and in 2006 it will be part of the all-MG meet to be held in Tennessee. The CCMGC looks forward to working with CXKJR Members to make this a successful event. George Merryweather, NAMGAR Vice Chairman, will be visiting BC later this month to meet with CCMGC members, and to look at the facilities available in the Whistler area.

Further details from Peter on the arrival of George Merryweather...

George Merryweather, Vice Chairman of NAMGAR, will be visiting BC from Wednesday Sept. 15th to Tuesday Sept. 21st. The purpose of his visit is to confirm the hosting of GT32 by the CCMGC in Whistler in July 2007. This will be officially announced at our Club meeting on Monday 13th (prior to his arrival). On Friday 17th, George and I will visit prospective host hotels in Whistler to check out their facilities, and we will also look at the car show site at the foot of Blackcomb. We will stay in Whistler to see the arrival of the cars of the All British Whistler Run. I look forward to introducing George and his wife Cathye to you all, and to members of the CCMGC and CXKJR, during his visit. If you are participating in the Whistler Run, perhaps we can have lunch together on Saturday. Please call me (604 535 0648) if you have any suggestions or questions. Regards, Peter Tilbury, GT32 Chairman.

More from Peter.....(including an approx cost of $60CDN - excl.freight charge)

While we were at GT-29 in Connecticut we purchased the MGA Tech book. It is well written by Mike Ash and put together in a superb fashion for the MGA enthusiast. We would like to encourage you to put an ad in your newsletter to make this available to all of your club members whether they are NAMGAR members or not.

Mike followed it step by step as he rebuilt the transmission in our MGA this past winter. At that time, he had to go back through each issue to find the information that was needed. Now it is all available under one cover and we feel it is a great resource.

If you go to this link and click on Advertisements, you may then choose the ad that works best for you. http://chapterhouse.blackmga.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Even more information from Peter Tilbury !.....Limited Edition MGB or MGB GT "I am putting together a register of the MGB LE models. If you would like to take part, please send me some details of your LE model, reg. number, chassis, colour, and any modifications. Location (town &/or County) also when and where bought. If purchased new or up to 5 yrs old, its price would be good. If written off or scrapped, then that data would also be very helpful in determining the final total. What am I going to do with the results? Once we have enough information then we could organise an LE gathering and publish the statistics in Enjoying MG. Write to MG Owners Club HQ, or email [email protected] Andrew Byford "

Did you get the idea from Peter??Please send information of interest to all club members to put in the LCG.Thanks, Ed. LCG.

Interesting info on XJ6 engines!!!Howdy Jag Clubs,

I thought you guys might be interested in our great deal on XJ6 engines. We're clearing out space for a new construction project, so we either have to sell these engines or move them to a new warehouse. Well, moving 60 engines is not at the top of our list of favorite things to do, so we'd rather sell them!

We've reduced the price on these engines to $399. They're great engines, and we have about 60 of them available on a first come, first serve basis. I'm per-sonally emailing all of the Jaguar club members on my list to give you guys a heads up.

Please feel free to forward this to other interested Jag club members. However, I would appreciate it if you only forward it to club members and no one else for now. I've also attached our press release and a link to our website.

Letter from JCNA regarding a survey that can be accessed through the JCNA website. A hard copy can be obtained in .doc format. Contact Marcia VanWely

Dear fellow JCNA members,The information gained by this survey will be used to show potential Jaguar Journal advertisers and JCNA event sponsors, the effectiveness of working with the JCNA.

Determining our membership's involvement in various types leisure activities, will guide us to solicit help and Jaguar Journal advertising from the most appropriate sources, resulting in further Journal enhancement.

Jaguars are our reason for being, and Jaguar Cars, being our largest single advertiser and supporter, is the reason for the concentration of questions about automobiles. Your answers will be of particular interest to them.

By asking most and least favourite things about the JCNA, We are soliciting your "constructive criticism". . The Challenge Championship, the JCNA's biennial North American championship Concours d'Elegance, is made spectacular, because it attracts the support of many companies interested in doing business with you, the members of the JCNA. To gain that support, we need to show them that you are planning to attend.

Finally, your responsiveness will help guide the JCNA board's future decision making. Thank you!JCNA Board of Directors

No help for Silverstone, says sports minister.

LONDON, Oct 1 (Reuters) - The British government has ruled out further cash help for Silverstone to keep the country's Formula One grand prix on the calendar next year.

Sports minister Richard Caborn told BBC radio that the government would not help the circuit's owners make up a shortfall between Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone's asking price and the amount they could offer.

Ecclestone said on Thursday that Silverstone, which hosted the first grand prix in 1950 and is owned by the members-only British Racing Drivers' Club, had been axed from the 2005 calendar.

With a bit of goodwill, we are hopeful that a constructive solution can be found to the benefit of British motor sport, the British economy and F1.

And.....The bitter re-lease from Ford

Here is a note from Al Riches regarding the closure of Browns Lane....

"I brought back a number of newspaper clippings from my trip to England and will have them on display at the October meeting."‘2 Jag’ Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister led the protest at the gates of the factory and vowed along with the Union leaders that Ford would not be allowed to do this, but there was not a murmur about this at the Labor Party Convention in Brighton the following week!

2005 Calendar orderingIt is time to order Jag and MG 2005 Calendars through the Club. Members should let Al Riches know if they want one put aside for them. Price should be approx. $12 as in prior years.

Welcome to the Castrol Rep..Shawn Chursinoff, Western Region Sales Manager for Castrol, has confirmed today that he will come to the Oct 18 meeting and speak to the group on their products.

THE LAST MG!!

Vehicle Description

This is the last MG exported from the Abingdon factory. This is an historic vehicle suitable for a museum or the ultimate MGB enthusiast’s private col-lection. It was presented to Henry Ford II with the intent for the vehicle to be permanently displayed in the Henry Ford Museum at Greenfield Village along side the first MG im-ported to the USA for Edsel Ford in 1928 or so. This car is mentioned in many books focusing on the history of

the MG car company. In particular, this car is shown in the book, “MGB” by David Knowles, MBI as Henry Ford II is accepting delivery from Jaguar Rover Triumph presi-dent, Graham Whitehead. In 1995 this car was transferred to the Gast Museum in Strasburg, PA where it rejoined the original MG owned by Edsel Ford that left the Ford Museum in 1982. In Oct 1997, the Gast Museum auctioned its cars. As I understand the story from there, a woman from NY pur-chased the car, and then sold it to the presi-dent of the Long Island Corvette club who in turn sold it to my uncle. I purchased the car from him in 2000.

I have made some repairs and identified some problems that I have not addressed being hesitant to disturb the cars originality.

Items I have repaired: Speedometer – re-paired by Brit Bits in NH due to fluttering needle. Water pump – replaced due to bad bearing – have original which goes with the car. Lower Control Arm Bushings – replaced because the old ones were flattened due to storage Under-dash pad – it was missing – replaced with ABS vinyl from Moss Motors

The body is dent and rust free. The paint blisters noted above are only visible upon close examination. The tires are original with no noticeable wear. The 5 alloy wheels are in excellent condition and have never had ex-ternal balance weights added. Car comes with the original tonneau cover, original jack and original owner’s manual.

This car is being sold as is. No warranty. I did my best to note everything I know about the car's condition. Please ask any questions before bidding. The car is located in Virginia Beach, VA and the buyer is fully responsible for shipping. Payment in full required prior to release. Payment by bank check or certi-fied check within 5 days. Feel free to call me with questions (I will not disclose the reserve!): 757-580-6806 or email to [email protected]

Matt Gresalfi (owner)

Originally up for sale on E-Bay with a starting bid of $10,000 but the reserve was not reached!

Ford Sells Jaguar/Cosworth Racing Team.

Ford Motor Company announced the sale of both its Jaguar Formula 1 team and Cosworth Racing, its motor sport engines subsidiary, thus escaping its potential closure costs of several hundred million dollars. A deal to sell the lackluster Formula 1 team to Red Bull, the Australian energy drinks group, was signed less than 24 hours before a dead-line for the team to register for next year's championship. If missed, the team would have forfeited its rights to take part in F1- making it effectively worth-less. Winding up the team could also have prejudiced the sale of Cosworth to Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerry Forsythe, co owners of the Champ Car series.

MG ZR IS THE NEW TOP PERFORMER

MG’s pocket rocket ZR is now also the company’s best selling car. 2004 is the first time an MG model has consistently outsold a Rover car since the brand’s expansion in 2001, though the Rover marque still commands greater overall sales popularity accounting for 65 per cent of the company’s sales. The sports hatch leads in the UK and Italy, and per-forms well in Spain, Ireland and Portugal. Commenting on its new number one status, sales and market-ing director Rod Ramsay, said: "The popularity of the MG ZR continues to grow and represents the brand’s young-at-heart position. Though the top of the range ZR 160 leads the range in the performance stakes, racing to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds, and onto a top speed of 131 mph, it’s the entry model ZR 105 that is the one that is turning young heads. Its appealing price, great performance and high standard equipment specification, means it enjoys two thirds of the model’s sales performance." The 2004 MG ZR has a new exterior appearance, with a new style of bumpers, clear lens halogen headlamps and integrated front grille design which are now more reminiscent of the MG SV su-percar. The ZR has improved dynamics for a great driving experience. Inside, the high quality and stylish cabin has also been revised with a new fascia design, rotary air vents, a new centre console, soft touch switchgear and an array of technology features. The MG ZR 105 is available from £10,395 with a 7E / T1 (Thatcham approved) ABI insurance rating with the top-of-the-range MG ZR 160 available from £14,995. Since launch, sales of the ZR have exceeded 70,000 cars.

You should be aware of this caution from the Nanaimo RCMP Tuesday, November 23, 2004 4:38 PM Subject: : Being aware and taking care. A police warning. (This could also be used as a ploy for kidnap-ping) Imagine: You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside; you lock your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE; you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your

parking space and notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into PARK, unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off!! Your engine was running, (ladies would have their purse in the car) and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED EXTENSIVELY. JUST DRIVE AWAY AND REMOVE THE PAPER LATER. (and be thankful that you read this!) I hope you will forward this to friends and family especially to women! A purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!!!!!

St. Patrick Day's Parade.....The owner of the Celtic Treasures on Dunbar, Steve McVittie, has been very supportive of our club. CG Advertising, and a fine bas-ket for Heritage. I’d very much like to support him in this ven-ture with both Jags and MGs. The parade is the 13th of March, leaving from the north end of the Granville St. Bridge and ending around Hastings. If we tell him in advance, prior to Feb. 1st, how many cars to expect he’ll try and arrange to have the dignitary’s ride with us to ensure that we get a prominent place in the parade. We should come up with some magnetic club logos for our doors, to promote the clubs. As Vito pointed out, many cars are away for the win-ter in Mar. but we should be able to get a few out. With Collector plates it doesn’t really cost that much to insure the cars a month early.I’ve downloaded two application forms for the clubs and will fill them out and submit them, un-less there are strong objections. Check out the details at www.celticfest.com . It’s a week long event which looks like a lot of fun. Thanks again.Les Garbutt
