Listening StrategiesFirst thing to remember:

You don’t always need to catch EVERY word.

You don’t always catch every word in your native language; why expect to catch everything in a second language?

Listening Strategies- Whenever you are listening, there is a purpose.

- Examples:

- Getting specific details for an assignment- Setting a meeting time- Getting personal information about a new person

you have just met- Following instructions

• When you listen, try to think about the situation.

• Consider what kind of information may be important for the situation.

• Use your previous knowledge to help you. (You have been having conversations since you were a child!)
