Holly shared her views on Remembrance Day and did a great job. We are super proud of you Hol- ly! What Remembrance Day means to me? By Holly Bond Remembrance Day means remembering all of the people that have fought for our country in war and making sure they are not forgotten. As King George the fifth’s declaration in 1919 stated ‘in perfect stillness the thoughts of everyone may be concentrated on reverent remembrance of the glorious dead’. It is important for everyone across Australia to stop at 11:00am on the 11 th of November to pay respects to those that served our country so that we today can live in perfect harmony. When I think of Remembrance Day I think of people coming together celebrating freedom and remembering soldiers, nurses and war veterans and I hope others for generations to come see the importance of Remembrance Day. Thanks also to Miss Lucas and the small group of students who created the wreath for the day using natural leaves and flowers from our school garden. It looked fabulous! 3-6 CRICKET Congratulations to the 3-6 students for the wonderful way you represented our school last Thursday at the T-20 cricket round robin in Ballarat. Although our students did not win a match, they enjoyed the opportunity to partici- pate and showed improvement throughout the day. Thanks to Mrs Munson for driving the students and Mrs Ander- son for organising. PRODUCTIVE CURRICULUM DAY Yesterday staff were supported by Marina Milich from Koroit and District Primary School to review and refine our reading curriculum. We had a very productive day, unpacking the Victorian curriculum essential learnings to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum for our school. We feel excited about the progress we have made in reading and look forward to further refining the teaching and learning program for all students in our school in order to achieve the best possible student outcomes. PRINCIPAL CONFERENCE This Thursday and Friday, I will be attending the Great South West Coast Network 2 day principal conference in Lorne. This is a great opportunity to bring together and build upon the work our network has been doing through- out the year with Mary Hutchison from Bastow. Mary will once again support us with working in Communities of Practice relating to our specific school needs. Respect Responsibility Excellence Persistence

BASTOW EVOLVE COURSE On Monday and Tuesday of next week I will also be out of the school in Melbourne attending days 6 & 7 of the Bastow Evolve Course for new principals. These professional learning opportunities are important to support continual growth within our school community. I appreciate the time and commitment of staff in keeping the school running smoothly. TUPPERWARE FUNDRAISER Lismore P.S is currently running a Tupperware fundraiser. Accompanying today’s newsletter is a Tupperware catalogue and the latest specials as well as an order form. The school will receive products to support cooking in the classroom and/or products to be used in raffles/prizes in future fundraisers. Please return order forms to the school by next Tuesday 20th November. Thanks in advance for your support. REMINDERS Last week, families were provided with a survey requesting your feedback. We would greatly appreciate if you could please return your responses to this survey ASAP. Also in last week’s newsletter, was some information regarding a project being run by Cobden Technical School stu-dents. They plan to lobby the State Government to introduce a refund for recycling cans and bottles. They have asked for our support and requested people in the community complete a survey. The survey will be open until November 23rd and I encourage you to jump on and support this active group of students. All results from the data will be sent through to our school to use. Please use the following link to complete the survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/27QG8K3 Also attached to the newsletter are statements of accounts outstanding. Payment would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Thanks for your ongoing support. Have a fabulous week . Jess Kattwinkel

COMMUNITY NEWS

Helmet tips for parents & carers Research shows that wearing a bicycle helmet reduces the risk of head injury by 60 to 90 per cent. Of children aged 0-9 years who were fatally or seriously injured, only 42 per cent were wearing helmets (according to police reported crashes between 2004 and 2008). A bicycle helmet will only protect your child’s head if it is the right size and fitted correctly. Children should always wear a helmet when using tricycles, bicycles, scooters, when travelling as a passenger on an adult's bike, in a bike trailer, or when using any other wheeled item. Correctly fitting a helmet: Place your hands on top of the helmet and try to move it. It should not be possible to tilt the helmet: forwards to cover the eyes backwards to uncover the forehead sideways to uncover the side of the head. When the helmet is fastened it should be squarely positioned on the head. The rim of the helmet should sit on the forehead just above the eyebrows. The straps should be adjusted so that there is no slack when the buckle is securely fastened under the chin. Ensure straps are not twisted and that the side straps form a V shape with the point just under the ear lobe. Booster Seats Children aged over 7 years must use either: a booster seat, or an adult seat belt. Children grow at different rates and there can be big differences in their heights and weights. Therefore you can choose the type of restraint that is best for your child's size. An adult lap-sash seat belt is designed for people with a minimum height of 145 cm. The average child will reach this height between 10 to 12 years of age. Children who are not tall enough to use an adult seat belt can slump into their seat. The lap part of the seat belt is then too high on their stom-ach which causes more serious injuries in a crash. Therefore, it is recommended that your child continues using a booster seat until they have outgrown it. There are some booster seats available for children up to the age of 10 years.
