TIMES AND LOCATIONS

Please note the dates, times, and locations of camps are variable. Details for each camp can be found on the quick reference guide on pages 5-6.

FEES AND REGISTRATION

Cost: $60 full day/$35 half day per week for Lenawee County students $85 full day/$60 half day per week for out-of-county students

Fees are all inclusive. All materials, activities, lunches, and snacks are covered by the cost of registration (listed above).

Age Requirements: Student’s age for camp is as of the first day of camp. Registration Begins: April 10, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Register On-line at: www.lisd.us/camps Register On-site at the LISD TECH Center, 1372 N. Main Street, Fridays, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM All registrations are due one week prior to the start of camp: you may register on-line or at the LISD TECH Center.

LUNCHES & SNACKS

Snacks are provided for half-day sessions. Lunch and snacks are provided for full day sessions.

WEEKLY MENU: Day 1: Spaghetti and meat sauce, tossed salad, bread stick, mandarin oranges, cookie, water Day 2: Chicken tenders, corn, garlic bread, sliced apples, cheese cubes, water Day 3: Tacos, veggie sticks, applesauce cup, chips & salsa, cookie, water Day 4: Hamburger or hot dog, green beans, tossed salad, grapes, water Day 5: Individual pizza, veggie sticks, pineapple tidbits, cookie, water

We have adopted a peanut “aware” menu due to allergies observed in our camps.

Daily Snacks: Snacks would include a small water and snack, such as Goldfish crackers, string cheese, animal crackers, pretzels, apple slices, etc.

Parents are welcome to send in a lunch and/or snacks for their child on any day of his/her camp.

A modified menu for field trips (below) will be served on field trip days instead of daily menu All field trip meals: sub sandwich (deli meats), chips, applesauce or fruit cup, string cheese, pickle spears, water.

WAITING LISTS AND CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY

There is limited space and registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis for ALL camps.

Registered students will receive an email confirmation upon registration and a reminder email one week prior to camp and will include detailed information about the camp.

If the desired camp is full, students may be placed on a waiting list through the registration site. If an opening becomes available, students will be notified in the order they registered on the waiting list. If you need to remove a participant from a camp, please contact person below as soon as possible.

“X” Marks the Spot! (11-14 yrs.) Bring out your inner pirate using high tech gadgets and soft-ware! Have you ever heard of Geo Caching? Search for hidden treasure and hide your own treasure using GPS. Explore satellite imagery with google earth, learn to collect data, and create your own maps. Use ARC GIS software to show your findings. 3-D Print Shop (9-10 yrs.) Have you ever wondered how 3-D printing works and what it is used for? From wheels on a toy to complex machines and more, learn the engineering design process used to make some really amazing objects. You will create your own computer program and use a 3-D printer to make your design real! If you want to learn how to make something from nothing, this camp is for you! 3-D Print Shop (11-14 yrs.) Have you ever wondered how 3-D printing works and what it is used for? From wheels on a toy to complex machines and more, learn the engineering design process used to make some really amazing objects. You will create your own computer program and use a 3-D printer to make your design real! If you want to learn how to make something from nothing, this camp is for you!

Dirt, Turtles & Snails; Adventures in Field Ecology! (11-14 yrs.) You will explore the outdoors while conducting research on plants and animals. Through observation and experimenta-tion in the field and the lab, you will learn how to apply the scientific method to real-life research questions and will learn research skills such as observing wildlife, trapping and tagging animals, and collecting water quality data. You will get a hands-on look at environmental issues that are affect-ing our environment. Come ready to be outdoors and ex-plore nature! Ag-Citing Ag-Ventures (6-8 yrs.) Where does your food come from? The store? Think again… join us for an exciting week of exploring where your food comes from. Animal Adventures (9-10 yrs.) Come have a blast learning about animals through exciting, hands-on investigations! You will dive deep to explore na-ture and the creatures that live in it including vertebrates, invertebrates, and their habitats. If you love animals and nature, this is the camp for you!

Battle Bots (11-14 yrs.) Yep this is a smash-em up derby with robots! You and your teammates will build and program your warrior robot and then compete against other teams to become the victor. You will learn to build your robot using Vex Robotic compo-nents and then program using Robot C. Blast Off! (9-10 yrs.) Every day, exciting new discoveries in space and science change our understanding of the universe around us. You will use fun, hands-on learning to make your own discover-ies about gravity, the stars and much more! As an aspiring astronaut, you will explore the wonders of space while mak-ing rockets and craters in the moon. Get ready to blast off into space! Cardboard Boat Regatta (10-14 yrs.) Campers will learn the design and mechanics behind card-board boat building including different boat designs, buoy-ancy, materials and applications using critical thinking and teamwork. Students will design and construct individual model boats and participate in a team building competition of full size cardboard boats for the regatta! Challenge Island (9-10 yrs.) On Challenge Island you will go head-to-head in "Survivor” theme activities! You will use STEAM (Science, Technolo-gy, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) concepts to design and create projects. You'll face each other in a boat competition, go for distance using a catapult, among other challenges. Bring out your inner artist and create Ocean Slime plus oth-er experiments! Will you be the Sole Survivor on Challenge Island? Find out! Coding with Scratch (11-14 yrs.) Are you an aspiring middle school coder? Learn to program your own stories, games, and Finch robots with Scratch. Scratch is a drag and drop programming environment devel-oped by MIT. Learn to think creatively and solve problems! Creating Comic Books (11-14 yrs.) Do you love to draw? Do you enjoy reading comic books, or have you ever imagined creating your very own comic book? If so, comic book camp is the camp for you. Learn the art of comic book illustrating/coloring and developing storyboards and cells in order to create your very own comic book!

CSI Forensic Science Mystery (9-10 yrs.) Have you always wondered what it would be like to be a detective or forensic scientist? In this camp you will learn how to process a crime scene, gather evidence, and create your own crime scene map. You will perform 10 different forensic tests on the evidence gathered from “mock” crime scenes to help solve the crime! You will also get a real hands-on learning experience from real police detectives!

Eekstein's Lab (6-8 yrs.) Are you interested in becoming a mad scientist? This is the camp for you. Experience a variety of science careers through hands-on experiments. You will be amazed how science is connected to your daily life! FIRST Robotics Competition, What's a HOG Drive? 2 weeks (12-17 yrs.) As part of a team, you will learn to design and develop cus-tom equipment to use for FIRST Robotics competitions. Learn about computer programming, mechanical, electrical, and design engineering. Your team will work on several projects including the design and development of a HOG (Hemispherical, Omni-directional, Gimbaled) Drive. Learn more about FIRST Robotics and consider becoming a member on next year's competitive team! Girls in Chemistry & Engineering (9-13 yrs.) Girls Rock!! During this camp you will learn about the con-tributions women have made to the world of Chemistry and Engineering. Explore career paths available in the science world and learn about the different areas of engineering by executing fun, exciting STEAM activities. You will perform hands-on chemistry experiments and work with the design process to create some pretty cool things! This camp isn’t just for girls…it’s for anyone who wants to make a differ-ence in our world! Grossology (9-10 yrs.) Squeamish shrieks and squeals are the order of the day as you engage in delightfully repulsive projects to learn about the gross, but cool, workings of the human body. Explore the body’s stinky, oozy, slimy, and liquidly products, make fake blood, mucous, and scabs. Through hands-on activi-ties, you will get the “poop” on human gross science and become an official “Grossologist.”

How Things Work (11-14 yrs.) Everyone likes to tear things apart, but tearing something apart with permission is even better! You will be given an out of service piece of equipment such as an old household appliance or copy machine. Then using various tools your team will take the piece of equipment apart, and learn why and how it works. What do you see from an engineering standpoint? How was it manufactured? International Cuisine (14-17 yrs.) Learn about a variety of International Cuisines including Italian, Mexican, Chinese, French, and American. During this camp each day will focus on a different international cuisine. You will learn the fundamental basics of safety and sanitation, knife skills, cooking techniques, basic butchery, and tools and equipment of a commercial kitchen. Intro to Animation 2 weeks (11-14 yrs.) In this 2-week camp, bring your imagination and creativity as you learn to use Adobe software to create short animat-ed videos. You will explore the animation video production process, create storyboards, perform voice overs, edit vide-os, and create small-scale set designs for your own Stop Motion and computer animations. Intro to Automotive Mechanics I (11-14 yrs.) 1/2 day session-AM Do you want to learn more about careers in the exciting world of automotive repair? In this camp, learn the basic technical skills to diagnose, overhaul, and repair automotive systems and components. This camp is for any student who wishes to work on cars, either as a career or in their own garage! Intro to Building Trades 2 weeks (11-16 yrs.) In this 2-week camp, you will explore the construction trades. You will learn about safety, both hand tools and power tools, measurements, residential electrical, plumb-ing, and HVAC. Lab projects and field trips to construction sites will demonstrate how to apply your construction skills.

Lego Robotics (9-10 yrs.) Using Legos Mindstorms, you will design, build, and pro-gram fully functional robots that move through an obstacle course, talk, and have a variety of sensors to do other ac-tions. As young scientists, you will carry out investiga-tions, calculate and record data, and present the results. You will travel to area companies and universities to see a variety of careers and how robots can be used. This is an exciting way to look at Legos! Lego Robotics - Advanced (9-12 yrs.) Prerequisite: Previous Lego Robotics camp Take your Lego Robots to the next level! Learn how to improve your robot designs and programming with more complex tasks and obstacles. Continue to expand your investigations, improve your calculations, and compare your design results. Machine Makers (11-14 yrs) Have you ever wanted to design and build a machine from scratch to perform tasks? Then this camp is for you! Us-ing Vex Robotics equipment, you will be part of a 2 or 3 member team that will design and build a machine to per-form specific challenges. Compare your designs and test your machines with other teams. How do you think you will do? Good luck! Minecraft.edu (14-17 yrs) This camp offers you an opportunity to explore, create, and collaborate within the Minecraft.edu environment. You will explore and research aspects of the Minecraft world you create. Movie-Making Mania (11-14 yrs) Calling all movie makers! Come and join us for a week of movie making. You will learn how to use a variety of soft-ware such as iTrailer to create movie trailers, iMovie to create/edit film, and create Claymation movies using Stop Motion. Last but not least, campers will learn to operate a GoPro and create a movie using this cutting edge technol-ogy. Playing with STEAM (11-14 yrs.) Join us for a week of exploration and play with various toys and gadgets from the S.T.E.A.M. world. You will have the opportunity to invent with gadgets like Makey Makey. Campers will work with augmented reality apps to enhance science, math, and art skills. Campers will also work on coding through Ozobots. Be ready to explore and create!

parks & Chips (13-15 yrs.) You will participate in a focused exploration of machining and welding. Through this program, you will create pro-jects utilizing the manual mill and lathe, as well as devel-oping Gas Metal Arc Welding skills. Come join us if you are interested in being a welder or machine operator! This Just In! 2 weeks (11-14 yrs) This just in! Be a part of a student driven, hard hitting, news broadcast for the LISD TECH Center! In this 2-week camp, you will learn the ins and outs of a busy newsroom. Are you ready to improve your on camera skills? Want to write compelling and informative news stories? This camp not only gets you on camera but behind it as well! Your crew will work in-studio and on-location to create a live-to-tape production that will air on Channel 22.

Unplugged & Plugged Coding (9-10 yrs) In this camp you will learn how technology connects us all through experiences that blend online and “unplugged” team challenges. You will learn how to develop basic computer programming skills and use computer logic. By the end of the course, you will be able to create an inter-active game or stories that you can share.
