Definition

A blended librarian seamlessly combines 21st century skills, instructional research and design, and technological skills into their existing library program. Through these skills, the librarian is able to make more and better connections with faculty, students, and patrons.

Multi-Disciplinary Boundary-Spanning Roles

• The Instructional Technologist/Blended Librarian combines the traditional skill set of a reference/instruction librarian with the hardware/software skills of an instructional technologist and an instructional designer to successfully apply technology appropriately to enhance the teaching-learning process.

• Responsible for the design, implementation and assessment of library instruction tutorials, video, and other media to enhance student learning of library research skills and knowledge of collections and services.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the library’s instruction mission through online teaching and support.

• Creating, developing, and implementing online learning objects to include but not limited to interactive tutorials, webcasts, videos, primarily using open-source technologies.

• Assessing the impact in collaboration with teaching librarians and Library Webmaster.

Responsibilities

• Acting liaison with USF IT, academic faculty, and University College staff to create and coordinate deployment of new instructional technologies to distance education students.

• Contribution to the profession and its literature through publications and presentations and participation in professional organizations is a requirement of this faculty position.

Skill Sets

• Familiarity with a wide range of instructional technologies (e.g., Camtasia, Jing, Adobe, etc.) and online pedagogical practices.

• Show evidence of creativity, initiative, flexibility, and possess an understanding of how students engage with online learning and the use of library resources and services.

Instructional Focus in Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in developing learning objects, instructional videos and tools, and online tutorials in an academic environment.

and the ability to integrate instructional technologies in courses with a library component.

• An undergraduate or advanced degree in instructional design/technology.

• Online course development experience.• Experience in the assessment of technologies
