Toskana Therme Bad Orb

Water is an infinite source of life with

strange and luring voices. Many dif-

ferent ears are listening. Underwater

ears. Look around–you are not alone on

Planet Pool. There is light, color, warmth

and good company. Some people have

their eyes closed, half dreaming, half

dancing; others are floating weightlessly

in and out of real time, thereby imme-

diately understanding physically the

concept of LIQUID SOUND.

It is a futuristic scenario with archaic

origins. Go back to the grey-blue

ancestors, life forms that learned to

swim and sing in the water long before

anyone crawled and howled on land.

The ocean never stopped resonating

with these tunes. How does it feel to

be a contemporary whale, listening to

the music of today? What is the human

contribution to the ongoing festival of

underwater music?

Such are the questions that inspired this

compilation. It reflects the development

of LIQUID SOUND, an installation that

honours water as a space and stage for

the art of bathing in sound and light.

Some musicians you hear on this album

have actually performed for audiences in

thermal baths that are specially designed

for this experience. In Germany, Toskana

Therme Bad Sulza, Toskana Therme Bad

Orb and Toskana Therme Bad Schandau

are hosts to regular LIQUID SOUND Club

nights, live full moon concerts and the

annual all-night LIQUID SOUND festival

featuring the best of music, visuals and

performing arts in and around water.

In order to enjoy the real thing, all you

have to do is to get wet and do nothing.

Make yourself comfortable on a floating

carpet of sounds and waves. Perhaps

your journey will bring you to an aquatic

opera house, or a temple, who knows?

And who can tell the difference?
