LIPOSUCTION SURGICAL/PROCEDURE NAME Liposuction Lipoplasty SURGICAL PROCEDURE Liposuction is a process that will remove the excess or unwanted fat from the desired areas, usually are chin, neck, above the breasts, upper arms, abdomen, buttock, hip, and thighs. It can be performed together with other plastic surgery such as tummy tuck, facelift, etc. A surgeon will make small incisions and insert a cannula to loosen excess fat. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out from the body. HOSPITAL ADMISSION As day surgery or 1-2 days hospitalization if done under general anesthesia DURATION OF OPERATION 1-6 hours or more, depends on the areas and additional surgery ANAESTHETIC General, Twilight or local anesthesia PRE-OPERATIVE CARE Before surgery, please inform your surgeon of any allergies, all medical conditions, and any medication that you are taking (both prescription and non-prescription). To eliminate the chance of post-op. bleeding, you should avoid aspirin or anticoagulant and any medication containing aspirin for 2 weeks prior to surgery. You should not smoke for 2 weeks prior to surgery as smoking can affect your reaction to the anaesthetic and slow down the healing process; so can alcohol consumption. It can also increase the risks for complications, and delays of healing process. Patients who suffer from hypertension must inform the surgeon prior to surgery. It’s vital that you discuss your expectations of the outcome of the surgery and listen to the surgeon’s opinion.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE AND RECOVERY EXPECTATIONSOral antibiotics, pain reliever, antiswelling medications and wound dressing material are provided upon

discharge from the hospital. Bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness and burning sensations can occur for

a few weeks with full recovery up to 1-6 months, depends on your condition, the amount of fat taken, and

the treated areas.

You may be provided a compression garmentto wear after surgeryfor 1-2 months to minimize the swelling

and support the shape of your new body contour. Avoid any heavy activities and excessive force for 2-4 weeks.

The recovery period is usually about 3-5 days, varies on each person’s condition. While there may still be some

swelling and bruising, most people are happy with the result and return to work and their normal social lifestyle

after approximately 5-14 days.

RESULTSLiposuction is not a solution for obesity, norto get rid of cellulite. Though, it helps improving irregularities

and/or improve the appearance which will increase confidence. The effect is permanent with a proper diet

including a lot of lean protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low fat products and regular exercise.

RISK AND COMPLICATIONSRisks are inherent to any surgical procedure. Asymmetry / uneven fat removal, overcorrection, changes in

pigmentationand irregular shapes may occur. Fat embolism and blood clots can also happen if they break

away into the blood flow. A follow up with a surgeon is required after 5-7 days following surgery.

Infection is very rare, yet possible. It’s important that you complete the whole set of anti-biotic, provided by

the surgeon.
