Dear Fellow Lions Family Members:I FIND it hard to believe that six monthshas gone from my year as DistrictGovernor of District 201V5. I am veryimpressed with the efforts of all our clubsand finding it very interesting attendingyour meetings and getting to knoweveryone better. Usha is also finding agreat deal of pleasure in visiting as manyclubs as possibleand meeting manywonderful Lions. Our visits haveopened our heartswith affection andadmiration for thed e d i c a t e dc o m m u n i t yservice beingperformed in ourDistrict … andbeing accompl-ished with such good spirits andhappiness.Diamond Valley Lions Club wins with
Hearing Aids – this is a very worthwhileproject along with prescription glassrecycling. Diamond Valley Lions Club isheavily involved in this project. The surplushearing aids were donated by Town andCountry Hearing in Greensborough andwill go to The Princess Alexandra Hospital
in Brisbane. Those aids not suitable fortheir program are shared between All EarsAbroad, Cambodia and an orphanage inBali. Again the many hands of Lionismstretches into many different parts of theworld.I am very saddened by the passing of
PDG Frank Pettit, long standing memberof Croydon Lions Club – my friend
and mentor. Weremember theimmense contrib-utions made by PDGFrank and Beris toLions and commun-ity in general formany many years. We lost a greatgentleman and agood Lion. Ourcondolences are withthe Pettit family.
Of my recent visits to clubs, I am veryimpressed with all the clubs for theirhospitality and friendship. Eildon Lions hassponsored the Eildon Lion Park with agrand BBQ shelter which could cater forcabinet meetings.I was very happy to see that my theme of
‘Lions Promote Happiness’ has been welland truly applied by the MooroolbarkLions Club, when I attended their 24th
running of the Mooroolbark Cup, duringmy DG's visit. It was a well organised(thanks to Lion Peter) very happy eveningfor everyone including lions from otherclubs who continue to attend every year. Iwas a horse named “Bombay Duck” whichcame last in race 2, which probablyshouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, butI did manage to win a raffle prize. Theladies fashion parade was a delight to seeand a great success with ladies wearing hatsand impressive gowns. I had a great time, itwas certainly a different District GovernorClub visit and I look forward to being ableto go again.More than 450,000 peace posters are
entered worldwide in the annual LionsInternational Peace Poster Contest. LionsClubs International is sponsoring theprogram to emphasize the importance ofworld peace to young people everywhere. We thank RodMoss for doing a sterling jobof managing this project in our District fora few years now. I have to judge and sendone winning poster to the Multiple DistrictCouncil Chairman by the end ofNovember 2013 – a hard task for which Iget help from my artist partner Usha andPeace Poster Chairman Rod Moss.In keeping up with Christmas spirit

From The needy in the community.Over a four year period PDG MargaretStewart has been doing “A buy up forWaverley” during Easter, Christmas anddisaster times. This year SPC Ardmonagave dollar for dollar food items. $8000worth of food was available to make 80hampers from $4000 donation fromWaverley Lions and SPC matching withanother $4000. I thank Erminio and PDGMargaret for making up the hampers in thepast. But from now on Waverley Lions aretaking responsibility and are ready topromote Christmas hamper preparationsand distributions around Monash andGoulburn Valley areas. It is fantastic towitness this type of activity bringing clubsand members together for the greater goodof the community. We are now winding up for the pre-
Christmas festivities. I would like you all toremember to take care of yourselves duringthis time – it is a time when we can easilywear ourselves out trying to cram in lastminute good deeds, mixed with shopping, fellowship and perhaps a drink or two! If wewear ourselves out too much, we will not bein a fit condition to continue with our goodworks next year – please remember to rest, eat wisely (as well as badly on occasions)and drink lots of fluids (not always alcohol). As I go about my rounds for the rest of
this year, I will keep you all in mind andhope that you are enjoying yourselves andsomehow catching the eyes of youngergeneration to be part of Lions family. BothUsha and I wish you a happy andprosperous new year.
RegardsChandra

TAKE a moment to think about thisbefore you answer. How is your Clubregarded by the community which yourepresent? To give it the technical term, how have you positioned your club in themarketplace? Are you regarded as a group of
professionally minded people who are wellable to assist others, and are seriouslyregarded as being part of an organizationwhich can make a difference in your area.To do this we must be aware of everythingwhich is happening around us. Manyclubs have seen this only in terms of fundraising and while money is an importantfactor in what we can do, I can only repeatthat you cannot solve every problem bysimply throwing money at it. We must beseen to be involved in the workings of ourcommunity. We will be judged by ouractions and not by our thoughts, becauseno one can read your mind, and it is oftensaid that the road to hell is paved withgood intentions. At the moment there are some clubs
where the numerical strength is very lowand yet, strange as it may seem, they areunwilling to ask for any help. It is almostas if they would prefer to go down withtheir colors flying high rather than admitthat they need help. There is no disgracein asking for help. Help is available if youmake your wants known, but we cannotread your mind. Please, please, please tellus your problems, it is an honour to beasked to help a fellow Lion. When we say“We Serve” remember it applies to ourmembers too. With Christmas coming it will be a busy
time for Lions, but in the midst of ourpreparations, take time to stop and thinkabout the real meaning of Christmas.May you and yours enjoy this
Christmas.
