Hello and welcome to the latest edition of LINK Mag!

I’m sure this month, like us, you’ll join the four billion other people worldwide in watching the London Olympics.

Whether you’re lucky enough to be watching in person or simply enjoying it on TV, it should be a monumental showcase of everything that is good about Britain.

We’ll certainly have our eyes on Blackpool-born Carl Myerscough, who will represent Team GB in the shotput event. The best of luck to him and the rest of Team GB!

Our NEW business index is in this edition too. Designed to help you quickly and simply find the business you’re looking for at a glance, it can be found near the back of the magazine just inside from the classified pages.

Congratulations to the winners of last month’s competitions. Caroline Baron of Carleton won our Where Am I? Competition, so well done - £50 is on its way to you! Also, Mr Rusgitti of Blackpool won the James Jackson WIN Your MOT draw. A pat on the back to you both!

Don’t forget, LINK-Magazine also offers competitive leaflet print and distribution for up to 96,000 homes and businesses across the Fylde Coast, as well as offering FREE ‘What’s On’ listings for most local events.

LINK-Magazine is your local community & business directory.

Fylde Coast Kitchens, Bedrooms and Bathrooms bring quality, traditional and contemporary fitted kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms to the Fylde Coast and across the North West.

The company is celebrating three successful years in business, during which we’ve built a reputation for using high quality materials and top-end finishes from some of the best manufacturers.

Our skilled team can help you create the kitchen, bedroom or bathroom of your dreams.

We have a wide range of design styles and themes to choose from, so you can be sure to find the option that best reflects your personal preference and taste.

Quality of service is a high priority at Blackpool Kitchens, Bedrooms and Bathrooms. Each and every project that we undertake is carefully managed and carried out, ensuring a consistently excellent level of workmanship.

Drop by our showroom in Fleetwood where you can view our extensive range of kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

The design and planning process is the most important aspect of creating the perfect use for any room. After visiting us at our showroom we can arrange a suitable appointment for a free home survey, where we will thoroughly measure and assess your room, discussing any special needs or features that are required, as well as your preferences and individual tastes.

A 3D computer design plan and room layout is then tailored from your ideas and, with creative input from the designer, honed to become your unique interior space. Our designer experiments with various options and configurations to get exactly the look you want combined with your particular needs and requirements.

Through the process of discussions during the consultation, we work with you to ensure that each unique design is individually tailored to suit your specific taste and budget leaving you with a room to be absolutely proud of.

Postcard from FleetwoodYou can’t blame me for once again starting by talking about the weather, and my sympathy goes out to all the people who have organised events this ‘summer’ to have them cancelled. The great sense of community spirit that exists on the Fylde Coast is one thing that I really like about the place, and it’s a shame that months of planning have been a washout.

Even the Olympic Torch blew out briefly – and the day of fun planned for Fleetwood saw all the events cancelled and the Relay rerouted to avoid most dangerous spots created by the weather.

Fingers are crossed for the weather for Tram Sunday – set to happen just after writing this! Fleetwood Chamber of Trade have been hard at it for months with the organisation – the event draws thousands of people to Fleetwood – who will hopefully return again after the event.

The schools have broken up for the summer and the lovely seafront at Fleetwood, beach huts and golden sands will once again see holiday makers enjoying them – if the weather holds – and there are plenty of things to do locally during the holidays,

including craft events at Fleetwood Museum and Fleetwood Town are running a summer sports camp. There’s a new Events Calendar on the Visit Fleetwood website – keep an eye on it for meetings, events, entertainment and more, all along the Fylde Coast.

Keep an eye on the website, www.visitFleetwood.info, for all the latest local developments and community news added regularly. You can subscribe for email updates to make sure that you don’t miss out!

If you’ve got anything to tell us just email [email protected]

or ring 07932 143431.

If you ever wanted to try your hand at Racehorse Ownership well this could be the ideal opportunity for you as we are pleased to announce that we have secured the services of the highly promising 3yo filly Guru Girl on a Lease only deal until the end of the Flat season.

She will stay in training at Spigot Lodge and will now race in our name and colours. Guru Girl won twice last year at Ascot and Thirsk and finished 2nd in a very hot 0-95 Nursery at Haydock winning over £17,000 in prize money. Karl reports her to be working well and about 7-10 days away from racing.

We are prepared to offer shares in Guru Girl for the very special rate of a one off payment of £210 for a 2.5% share. This will cover all racing costs until the end of the season and all owners will receive full ownership benefits such as complimentary badges and a 2.5% share of any prize money won.

We can’t wait to see her on a racecourse and we really do believe that we have taken on a horse who we can have a lot of fun with and pick up a few quid along the way.

Anyone wanting to purchase a share in Guru Girl can do so by contacting Geoff on 07852 153969 or Andy 07940 202312 or you can visit the clubs website www.themountracingclub.co.uk for further details.

Hello You may have seen some press recently about a closure order being granted at a flat on Shakespeare Road. Nearby residents have endured months of misery caused from the tenants and visitors of the subject flat. Police now have possession of the flat for a period of three months during which no-one is permitted to enter it. Unfortunately the same anti social behaviour continues in the flat above the one closed down and we are now pursuing a second closure order as quickly as possible. The residents in this area should not have to live with this on their door step and we will do everything we can to eradicate it.

On a similar topic we have two hearings coming up later this month against two prolific individuals who persist in committing crime and engage in anti social behaviour throughout much of the town. We are effectively trying to secure an ASBO on these people which will be an additional punishment for the offences for which they are currently being prosecuted for. We have applied for a number of stringent prohibitions and if granted we will be in an even better position for dealing with them, before they even step out of line.

I need to take this opportunity to

remind you all of the need to secure your property. Opportunistic thieves will strike anytime of the day or night and take your property from your gardens. The price of scrap metal remains high and therefore the temptation for some people is to turn your possessions into cash in their back pocket! Don’t make the job an easy one for them; report all suspicious activity to the Police. Make a note at the time, registration numbers, descriptions of people and vehicles and we will do the rest. If we all look out for our neighbours as well as ourselves then we are sending a strong message out to the criminal fraternity that Fleetwood is not an easy place to commit crime. We are working alongside Foulds Metals who have implemented a number of procedures to identify, record and detect those individuals trying to sell stolen items.

As the school holidays loom, please ensure you know what your children are up to and who they are with. Whilst not wanting to spoil their fun, sometimes their fun can be others misery. Ask them to be mindful of what they are doing and where they are doing it - being respectful to those living and working nearby. There is only a very small minority of youths

in Fleetwood that cause repeated issues. We will take a firm but fair approach to all matters relating to anti social behaviour and those that do repeatedly come to our attention for all the wrong reasons will be met with a robust police response.

Finally, if you have any information or concerns, you can contact us at your PACT meetings, by phone on 101, via our Lancashire Constabulary website or if you prefer to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The process of our PACT meetings is always evolving with a view to maximising its appeal to the residents of Fleetwood. We now meet at the new Fleetwood Community Fire Station on the second Monday of each month between 2:30pm and 3:30pm. The next one is on 13th August. This is a ‘drop in’ event and your local Neighbourhood team will be available to discuss with you privately any issues you may have. Feel free to call in and see us and Councillors of the Fleetwood Town Council.

Thank you PS Dan Whitaker

• August 29th – Flying Seagulls craft a flying seagull or seagull mobile.

After what has proved to be a disappointing summer for weather, hopefully the long summer holiday will see a return to sunshine! Fleetwood Museum is an ideal family destination particularly on a rainy afternoon. We have a children’s quiz available at reception to be completed as children tour the exhibits. Completed sheets win a prize. Remember all accompanied children visit the museum free of charge! We are open Tuesday to Saturday each week from 11.00 to 16.00 and we are open throughout the Bank Holiday weekend. Our Coffee House provides welcome refreshment at the end of your tour! Ring the Museum on 876621 for more details.
