Thursday 25th September @ 8.00pmHalf Solid Productions - The Pull The Pull is the first comedy show from Half Solid Productions, a company established by Mayo writers and actors Liam Horan and John Corless. The Pull is a lively comedy based on an “unreal real event that may or not have taken place in rural Ireland.” The play is set in the fictional town of Ballybore, where, bizarrely, the local GAA club claims to pre-date the foundation of the GAA by some 130 years. Ballybore GAA club embarks on a fundraising truck pull around the town in an attempt to get themselves out of debt and to undo the bad feeling towards the club in the commu-nity, offering a humorous look at the way community works in Ireland along the way. Liam is a former Gaelic games corre-spondent of the Irish Independent, and creator of the popular Championship Man series on RTE Radio One. John is a well-known poet who has performed a number of readings in this region. Suitable for all ages, The Pull promises a great night of fun that keeps it country.

Tuesday 30th September @ 8.00pmLiving in a Coded LandIreland 2013 80mins Language: EnglishAs we grapple with the post Celtic Tiger, post bail-out landscape, along comes fi lm-maker Pat Collins with a documentary which not only offers us a context - historical, social and philosophical - but also prompts us to think. This fi lmic essay is centred in the Midlands, in Co. Westmeath, Ireland’s historical ‘umbilicus’, and from here the legacy of colonialism, patronage and privilege are explored, as well as our relationship with the land and the past. The real strength of this documentary is Collins’ judicious use of archive material, which he intercuts with present-day foot-age and commentators, geographers and historians. The effect is both lyrical and remarkable. We are also given a fascinating insight into how the so-called ‘middle man’ rose to a position of power in Ireland, from the cattle ranchers of the 1600s to the new middle men of the fi nancial sector. This is an important piece of work, a forward-looking social commentary of our time. - Roisin Duffy, Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2014 “A layered exploration of the Irish psyche - nothing comes close to its originality.” - Declan Burke, Irish ExaminerAdm. €5

Tuesday 14th October @ 8.00pmThe Past (Le Passé) Iran 2013 130mins Language: French with English subtitlesFollowing the taut Oscar-winning divorce drama A Separation, Iranian director Asghar Farhadi returns with another stunning study of modern family life, this time set on the outskirts of Paris where Ahmad arrives from Tehran to finalise the end of his tempestuous marriage to estranged wife Marie. Set in an unglamourous, working class milieu, what unfolds are the events of the previous four years, prompted by Marie’s sulky teenage daughter Lucie, whose strange contempt for her mother’s new boyfriend Samir sets the story in motion.
“Stunning… a gripping, emotional detective story. Wednesday 29th October @ 8.00pmDe Temps Antan The incredible Quebecois trio De Temps Antan was formed when Éric Beaudry, André Brunet and Pierre-Luc Dupuis were members of legendary French North American roots group La Bottine Souriante. It takes a special blend of mu-sical flair to create memorable songs of yesteryear: songs with a hint of contemporary - dosed with uncontrolled laughter, deep-rooted couplets and sudden, impromptu shifts - that speak to familiar rhythms of the
past. Together, the trio has been exploring and performing time-honoured melodies from the stomping grounds of Quebec’s musi-cal past since 2003. Using fiddle, accordion, harmonica, guitar, bouzouki and a number of other instruments, these three virtuosos blend boundless energy with the unmistakable joie de vivre found only in traditional Quebec music. A real treat in store!“Boundless energy and euphoric joie de vivre… a big, buoyant, multi-layered sound, their superb arrangements of classic songs and tunes blend deep traditional roots with cosmopolitan con-temporary influences.” - Celtic ConnectionsAdm. €16 / €14 (concessions)

The band has performed at festivals across the globe, gracing stages from the Yangtze River in China to the banks of the Shenandoah River. And now they’re here. Thursday 6th November @ 8.00pmtheatreWorksWest - Uncle VanyaA chaos of yearning and wild dreaming collides head-on with clumsy reality in this very funny depiction of Anton Chekhov’s classic play. During a languid, lazy summer in the countryside where life seems dormant, a dysfunctional family is invaded by relatives - the retired professor and his young beautiful wife - and lives are turned inside out in what ensues. After the company’s very successful production of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, theatreWorksWest presents his absurdist yet compas-sionate comedy Uncle Vanya, where nothing seems to hap-pen… but everything does! A fine cast includes Patrick O’Reilly, Anneli Watson, Niall Conway and Niamh Lally, directed by Patricia Kuester.“Uncle Vanya... A beautiful, poignant play with several searching souls at its heart. It’s also a testament to the complete absurdity of man’s woes.” - Daisy Bowie-Sell, Time Out

Tuesday 11th November @ 8.00pmMood Indigo (L’Écume des Jours)France 2013 94mins Language: French with English subtitlesPrepare to suspend disbelief and immerse yourself in the surreal and yearningly beautiful tale of Colin and Chloé, whose idyllic relationship is turned on its head when Chloé falls sick with an unusual illness - a water lily begins to grow in her lungs - and Colin discovers the only way to save her is to surround Chloe with a never-ending supply of fresh flowers. Set against the backdrop of a charmingly surreal Paris, eminently inventive director Michel Gondry finds inspiration from French novelist Boris Vian’s cult novel Froth on The Daydream to provide the foundation for this visionary and romantic love story starring Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris. “Gondry... combining refined style and raw emotion into one devastating, beautiful package.” - Todd Gilchrist, TheWrap“A match made in heaven: director Michel Gondry, master of cin-ematic bricolage, meets Boris Vian’s cult novel. Gondry’s brand of dark romantic whimsy and penchant for lo-tech effects nail the writer’s jazzy invention, surreal flights of fancy, streaks of satire and wall-to-wall puns.” - Anne Billson, The Telegraph

Warriors One in Three is a mixed media exhibi-tion that acknowledges the stoic bravery, dignity and resilience of people that have faced serious illness. “Through this exhibition the victim becomes the warrior by addressing perceptions of confl icting cultural projections played out through society. My practice is a trajectory of self-refl ection, personal narrative, and memoirs where the viewer completes the experience. Hand-made process is essential to the practice. The traditional medi-ums of drawing, fi ne print, collage, embroidery and wool crafts are key to generating the intricate visual representation that penetrates the memory of the observer creating unconscious and organic emotional reactions.
