Transcript of Line texture value_worksheet for wood burning
Name: _____________________________________ Period: ______ Line, Texture, and Value Worksheet
PART II: Practice making smooth, parallel lines with your thin tipped black marker. Change the direction of the stroke in each box to correspond to the label above the column
• Top row - long lines that extend from the edge of the shape all the way to the other edge of the box
• Middle row -use shorter lines to fill the boxes • Bottom row - use very short lines to fill the boxes.
Sample Vertical Horizontal Diagonal Diagonal Right Left
Short lines are called hatches, if they cross to create darker values, they are called, cross hatches.
PART II: Value Transitions Try your hatch marks in a larger area, fill the square on the right with hatch marks that transition from a light value (lines are spaced apart) to gradually darker values (lines are closer together, preventing the white of the paper from being seen). I started with a field of light value and then went to the dark side and added additional hatch marks as I moved to the light side. I repeated this process several times, until I had achieved the desired contrast and value change.
Repeat the transition process from above in the shapes below, the inner circle should be the reverse value transition of the square. Be sure to work to shape edges.
PART III: Cross hatching Cross hatches are lines that over lap, in this exercise your lines will overlap to create the value. Remember to keep the lines smooth, touch the tip and make a stroke, I will often lift the tip of my pen as I stroke the hatch line.
____/ 20 points possible
• Overall quality of transitions and hatch marks • Neatness and Completeness
