Hello Camp Pendleton family,

Spring is here! People are already flocking to the area beaches. Some are planting flowers. Some folks are looking toward the end of the school year and preparing to PCS to other parts of the world. Maybe your wife or husband has you working on honey do projects or outdoor home improvement projects.

My wife has me working on putting a new deck on the back of our house. I was thinking it would be a Friday afternoon, now that we have more daylight hours, and all day Saturday evolution. Boy was I wrong! When we tore up the old wooden deck it quickly became apparent to me this was a much bigger project than I anticipated! Of course a friend and I started the project on Saturday/March 14 when the weather was more summer than spring. There is no turning back now. The old has been removed and now the new is taking shape.

Sounds a bit like life. Life takes work. Marriage takes work. Parenting takes work. Serving our country takes work. I encourage you to put the work into whatever you are seeking to accomplish. The older I become the more I realize that we really do have more appreciation for the things and relationships we work hardest to attain and build.

In the business of your life I encourage you to take advantage of the worship opportunities offered by your base chapel team. As many of you know April is Easter and Passover season. There are many extra opportunities for worship between now and April 12 here at your base chapels. Some of the events particular to this season of the year are Good Friday worship at Blinder Chapel, Easter Sunrise service at Marine Memorial Chapel, Stations of the Cross each Friday evening at Blinder Chapel, and Eastern Orthodox Paschal Service at Blinder Chapel. Of course we have our regular scheduled worship services all the time. All of your base chapel schedule can be found on the base web-site.

Have a wonderful Spring.

God bless,Chaplain Williford

LINCOLN MILITARY HOUSING Green Article

JOIN US IN HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT BY LIVING GREEN.

APRIL - Reduce your Plastic Waste! We live in a world where convenience is king. Products are made to be easy to use and disposable, but using these “convenient” products is not convenient for the environment. The use of plastic water bottles, soda bottles, plastic grocery bags, and food packaging adds up quickly in each household. You can help by reducing the use of these products, recycling used containers, and leftover packaging; can help reduce the number of these items ending up in landfills.

Whether someone lives near an ocean, lake or river, their actions have an effect on these natural resources. One of the most serious threats to our oceans is plastic pollution. Plastic constitutes approximately 90% of all trash floating on the ocean’s surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile. Over 100,000 marine mammals and 1 million seabirds die each year from ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic.

To combat the dangers to our natural water resources noted above, you can reduce your use, recycle, and reuse products!

Here are a few great alternatives to using plastic: - Reuseit.com has multiple food storage options like the Wrap-N-Mat. It is a sandwich wrapper that unfolds into a placemat, is lined and can be easily cleaned. - Snacktaxi.com also has some great options for snacks and sandwiches; great designs and easy to use. - The Container Store offers a plastic bag alternative like the Snack Sack with Velcro®; very durable and stylish. - Get rid of those plastic water bottles and get a reusable water bottle. - Kleankanteen.com offers stainless steel water bottles of all sizes and lid options. - Nalgene.com is a master of reusable plastic water bottles. They provide unlimited designs, kid-friendly options and numerous colors. - Brita.com has water bottle options with a filter built in. It will filter tap water as you drink. Check out one of their pitchers or large dispensers for the fridge. They are great for the entire family. - Ditch your plastic grocery bags and pick up a reusable grocery bag. Starting July 1st, 2015, plastic bags are banned from large grocery stores, pharmacies, and other food retailers. - You can pick reusable grocery bags up at any grocery store. Source: www.takepart.com
