With a playoff spot clinched the Eagles will now focus on securing at the very least a home playoff game by taking home the NFC East division crown and are even still in contention for a first round bye in the playoffs. With the New Orleans Saints already having clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the Vikings are the team that the Eagleswill need to overcome in the standings to lock up a first round bye. That scenario became a lot more possible after the Vikings were dominated on the road on Monday Night Football against the Caro- lina Panthers. Obviously it is still an uphill climb for the Eagles, but the Vi- kings have now lost two of their last three games while the Eagles are win- ners of five games in a row. If the Eagles can take care of business in their final two games of the season, one of which includes a showdown with the Cowboys in Dallas to end the season, the Eagles will put themselves in great position heading into the playoffs. This week the Eagles host the Denver Broncos who have been one of the more surprising stories in the NFL this season. Under first year head coach Josh McDaniels, the Broncos are currently 8-6 and are holding the sixth spot in the AFC playoff race. After trading Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler during the off season to the Chicago Bears, the Broncos were written off by many people before the season even started. Shockingly, Denver got off to a 6-0 start and despite a mid season slide that included a four game losing streak, the Broncos have managed to stay in the playoff hunt. Facing a team that is playing for their playoff lives will mean that the Eagles will have their hands full today. On defense Eagles' cornerbacks Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown will have their hands full with Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Marshall currently ranks second in the NFL with 93 receptions and is tied for second with 10 touchdown catches. Samuel and Brown should be up for the challenge. After notching another interception last week, Asante Samuel now has eight interceptions on the season. Sheldon Brown has courageously been playing with an injured hamstring and has inter- cepted five passes on the season and has scored two defensive touchdowns. The Eagles defense should have the advantage against a Denver team that has limited offensive weapons outside of Marshall. On offense the Eagles have been rolling and are getting healthy at the right time. The running game will welcome back Brian Westbrook who should be cleared to play for Sunday. If Westbrook is ready to go he will see limited playing time that will hopefully allow him to shake off any rust before the playoffs. Another thing to look for on offense is DeSean Jackson who is chas- ing the record books. Jackson will try to break the NFL record for the number of touchdowns of over 50 yards scored in one sea- son. Jackson currently has eight in 2009 and is tied for the all time record with Devin Hester and Crazylegs Hirsch. Eagles Are Playoff Bound! Eagles Are Playoff Bound! Eagles Are Playoff Bound! Issue 11 : Regular Season Eagles vs. Broncos

With a win over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday at The Linc, the Eagles secured a playoff berth for the second consecutive season and the eighth time since 2000. Playoff Bound Birds

• With the Eagles and Cowboys both winning this weekend, the Eagles have clinched a playoff berth for the eighth time since 2000 (2000-04; 2006; 2008-09).

• The Eagles became the 10th team in NFL history to earn eight or more playoff appearances in a decade. Indianapolis in the 2000s and Dallas in the 1970s each had nine. The following teams have also had eight: Dallas (1990s), Buffalo (1990s), Cleveland (1950s), Minnesota (1970s), Pittsburgh (1970s), San Francisco (1980s and 1990s)

Big Play DJ

• WR DeSean Jackson racked up six catches for 140 yards and his seventh touchdown reception of the season

• Jackson has amassed five 100-yard games this season, which is the highest total by an Eagle since Terrell Owens had seven in 2004

• With 1,087 yards this season, he became the 20th player in team history and the third player under Andy Reid to surpass the 1,000-yard mark (Owens – 1,200 yards in 2004; Kevin Curtis – 1,110 yards in 2007)

• Only four other players in team history have had back-to-back 140-yard receiv-ing games. The last to do so was Mike Quick in 1985 (146 yards on 11/3/85 at 49ers; 145 yards on 11/10/85 vs. Fal-cons). The others were Ben Hawkins in 1967, Pete Retzlaff in 1965, and Bud Grant in 1952

The Book on the Rook

• RB LeSean McCoy rushed for 48 yards and his fourth touchdown of the season

• With 606 yards this season, McCoy set the team rookie rush-ing record, surpassing Correll Buckhalter’s total of 586 yards set in 2001

• His four rushing touchdowns this season are tied for the third-highest total ever by an Eagles rookie, trailing Steve Van Bu-ren (1944) and Don Johnson (1953), who each had five in their rookie campaigns

Five for Five

• QB Donovan McNabb completed 21 of 36 passes for 306 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for his 28th career touchdown en route to his fifth straight win

• It marked the 21st regular season game in which McNabb has thrown and rushed for a touchdown (the Eagles own a 20-1 record in those games)

• The Eagles are 20-5-1 when McNabb throws for over 300 yards (1-1 in 2009)

• McNabb is 13-4 in his last 17 regular season starts

Let It SnoW...Let It SnoW...Let It SnoW...Let It SnoW... Last weekend DeSean Jackson was not the only one trying to set records on the field at The Linc, Mother Nature was also making a run at the record books by dropping 23.2 inches of snow on the city of Philadelphia and Lincoln Financial Field. With the snowfall beginning roughly 36 hours before kickoff and not ceasing until after midnight, the more than 1,200 workers who came to help with the snow removal effort had a huge challenge on their hands. As many of you saw crews were still removing snow throughout the stadium right up until the gates opened. A big thank you goes out to each and every member of Lincoln Financial Field's game day staff as everyone played a role in getting the stadium ready to welcome over 55,000 dedicated Eagles fans into the stadium for a 4:15 kickoff. Whether you grabbed a shovel, a bag of salt, or just made sure that your area was ready to open for Guests, it was a true team effort by everyone involved to ensure that all of our Guests enjoyed the highest quality sports and entertainment experience in a safe, clean, and friendly environment.!

HistoryHistoryHistoryHistory

On December 27th, 2003 the Philadelphia traveled to the nation’s capital for a season ending match up against the Washington Redskins. With the Eagles sit-ting at 11-4 they were in need of a win to hold off the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East division title. Washing-ton was 5-10 and nothing to play for other than pride against a heated rival.

The Eagles came out of the gates on fire and held a 21-7 halftime lead that proved to be too much for the Redskins to overcome. Donovan McNabb put on a show throwing for 242 yards and connecting on three touchdown passes to Freddie Mitchell, Correll Buckhalter, and Chad Lewis. McNabb was lethal on the ground as running for a touchdown in the second quarter.

The Eagles would go on to beat the Redskins 31-7 to capture their third straight division title. Even though the outcome of Cowboys game was inconsequential to the Eagles title, Eagles fans were very happy to see Dal-las lose to New Orleans 13-7.
