It is located in Louisville, Kentucky, and serves 292 students with 19 teachers. Lincoln’s aim is to provide excellence in education in a cultur- ally diverse environment through developing creativity in the performing arts and to inspire students in their quest for knowledge. Lincoln strives to promote success and self-confidence through teamwork, critical thinking, and self-discipline. Lincoln’s curriculum offers students vocal music experi- ences and an exploration of instrumental music (includ- ing band and orchestral instruments, piano, and assort- ed rhythm instruments). The curriculum also provides an exploration of dance (ballet, modern, and creative move- ment) and of drama (including improvisation, mimicry, pantomime, role-playing, storytelling, dramatic perfor- mances, and presentations). Lincoln graduates (visual and performing arts students) will receive “first right of review” in the application process for the JCPS middle school performing arts programs. In addition, students receive instruction in literacy, social studies, science, and math. Lessons in these subjects are integrated with the performing arts instruction. Students are offered bal- let lessons taught by instructors from the Louisville Bal- let Company. Lincoln also offers the advance program, extended school services, a family resource center, and a range of student activities, including basketball, cheer- leading, and a jump rope team.
