Tourist Information Center“Little Blue Caboose”
Located just off I-75 and State Route 309 East (on Roschman Avenue)419-222-3333
The Tourist Information Center of Lima/ Allen County is housed in the “Little Blue Caboose”, a symbol of the rich locomotive heritage in Allen County. It is staffed mainly by volunteer Tourism Specialists who serve as ambassadors to the community by welcoming visitors and providing area information.
The caboose is stocked with information and materials on local attractions, events, hotels, dining and shopping, as well as various attractions in and around the state of Ohio. The CVB encourages community members and visitors alike to stop in and visit with one of our Tourism Specialists. Let them fill you in on what makes Lima/Allen County so unique.

Provides resources for students, teach-ers, parents, campus and community, programming for children and audiences of all ages. Welcomes visitors to browse the library collection and enjoy the art work, children’s literature, original illustrations from picture books, sculptures, The Honda Outdoor Peace Sculpture Garden, International Peace Pole and Peace Thrones.
Musselman Library at Bluffton University1 University Drive, Bluffton419-358-3275, Call for an appointmentMusselman Library is home to rich historical collections important to the Bluffton experience and supporting intellectual discovery of the students, faculty, and staff – and of scholars from around the world. These collections are the treasures of the institution… trac-ing the heritage back to beginnings of Anabaptism. The Archives & Special Collections floor is located on the first floor of the 1965 addition to Musselman Library and houses all archival and special collections owned by Musselman Library, including:Mennonite Historical Collections-Founded in 1935 by the late Dr. C. Henry Smith as the
Bluffton Mennonite Historical Library, the Mennonite Historical Collections reflect the Mennonite affiliation of Bluffton University and the Swiss tradition of many constituents. The Mennonite Historical Col-lections include a number of editions of key Anabaptist-Mennonite texts, periodicals with research and news for and about Mennonite and related groups, resources for genealogy research, secondary sources on Mennonite history and life, and historic materials from the village of Bluffton and of surrounding communities. Materials in the main library collection on the topics of peace and general Anabaptist and Mennonite history support research in these areas. MHC materials are available for use by appointment.

Box 5419-384-3412, Call for an appointmentwww.swisshistorical.comThe general purpose of the Swiss Community Historical Society is to investigate and study the history of the Bluffton-Pandora com-munity; to provide for the collection, preservation, and dissemina-tion of knowledge and information about the community; to pro-vide for the collection and preservation or display of papers, books, records, relics, and other things of historic interest; to acquire, hold, own, operate and manage property necessary or advisable for these purposes and to provide for the marking and preservation of historical sites and buildings. The Homestead is owned by the Swiss Community Historical Society. It is a typical Swiss settlement house built in 1843. The barn has an inscription stone reading 1854 set into the limestone wall on the east side, making it one of the earliest large barns in the area.

Groups and Special Tours: By Appointment, Closed HolidaysThis folklore museum, consisting of 8500 square feet on 3 floors, features the history of the Miami-Erie Canal and the city and people of Delphos. The Canal Commission has an archival collec-tion from the entire historic period of the region, from Civil War letters home from soldiers to manuscript pages once used by the Paul Whiteman Band. There are canal related artifacts from a tin bathtub used on a canal boat to actual parts from the canal boat “Marguerite” which were pulled from the Miami-Erie Canal in 1989 by 57 Delphos youngsters. Other features include a Lincoln Highway display, a 1902 Sears motor buggy, an extensive military collection and much more. This museum is handicap accessible.

The Delphos Museum of Postal History339 N. Main Street, Delphos419-303-5482www.postalhistorymuseum.orgOpen Thursdays 1PM to 3PM, Saturdays 10AM to 2PM Groups and Special Tours: By AppointmentThe newly renovated home of the Museum of Postal History is just a few blocks north of its original location. The transportation room includes several antique vehicles with murals of Delphos that correspond with the years these vehicles were used. You will also find a re-creation of a Railway Post Office railcar similar to the one used on the AC & Y railroad that traveled from Delphos to Youngstown. Learn about the construction of the Delphos Post Office which was influenced by the town’s egg hatchery and mop factory. There are over 100,000 stamps on display from all over the world. The Media Center allows you to see numerous artifacts that are not on display at the moment. The “Kidz Zone” with its minia-ture working post office is presently under construction. Meeting space and catering on site are available for special programs. The building is also home to the Delphos Area Art Guild.

Featuring an M 60 A3 Tank, 155 mm M114 A2 Towed Howitzer and a UH-1 Helicopter Tail Number 65-09587 along with many other tributes to our service men and women.

Enjoy exhibits in the Ellen Nelson Gallery, Loft Gallery, and Artzone Gallery and purchase art in the gallery shop. Also houses one of the regions best arts resource libraries. ArtSpace is housed in a turn of the century brick building in Downtown Lima. Art classes for children and adults available ranging from pottery to photog-raphy and everything in between. ArtSpace also puts on many events including the summer concert series: Rally in the Square!

Railroad buffs will enjoy seeing the 1925 Shay locomotive, Lima City Street Railway motorman’s cab, and interurban exhibits. The Children’s Discovery Center offers hands-on activities for kids including a general store, one-room schoolhouse, Native American wigwam and large model railroad layout. Whether your interest is natural history, the Civil War, transportation, or John Dillinger’s gang, you’ll find it all at the Allen County Museum. The institution also offers the Elizabeth M. MacDonell Memorial Library, a favorite among family history researchers, and the John H. Keller Railroad Archives featuring thousands of photographs, builders’ prints, and Lima Locomotive Works documents. Families and individu-als welcome year round. MacDonell House Victorian MansionAllen County Museum Complex, same hours. 632 W. Market Street, Lima419-222-9426Built in 1893, the MacDonell House is one of the few remaining examples of Victorian architectural elegance that once marked an area known as the “Golden Block” in Lima, Ohio. During the last two decades of the 19th century, Allen County flourished with the discovery of oil and the growth of the railroad industry. This mansion is a tribute to that prosperous period in its history.

It is an interactive green oasis for “children” of all ages. Open May through October, dawn to dusk. The Allen County Children’s garden is a project of the Allen County Master Gardeners who are under the umbrella of Allen County’s Ohio State University Extension Office. Be sure to find out about the Children’s Garden events as well!

Call for information.The Schoonover Observatory in Schoonover Park is open at 8PM on the first Friday of every month. This coincides with the regular monthly meetings of the Lima Astronomical Society. The Observa-tory is also open from time to time for special events related to sky phenomena taking place at the time. On regular meeting nights, there is a short business meeting at 8PM, followed at 830PM by a presentation lasting approximately an hour. Observations commence thereafter. Everyone is welcome to attend the Society’s regular meetings and any special events. The public is encour-aged to come to the observatory and look through the 14-inch Celestron telescope housed at the facility. Members of the Lima Astronomical Society will be on hand to operate the telescope and answer questions.

Learn about the heroic individuals who have served the Lima community over the last 150 years and see the photos, newspa-per accounts, even the original equipment used to fight some of Lima’s most devastating fires. See a beautifully sculpted statue in memoriam of those heroes who have given the ultimate sacrifice to save others.

Keller Memorial Lincoln Park Railway Exhibition is the Nickel Plate Road S-3, 2-8-4, #779 Berkshire, the NKP caboose #1091, and the NKP Business Car #5.
The 779 was the last of the Berks built for the Nickel Plate, leaving the Lima Locomotive Works for the NKP in 1949.

Veterans Freedom Flag Monument(Maintained by the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Parks District), 1191 Buckeye Road, Lima419-221-7070www.uawfreedomflag.comLocated adjacent to the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, the Veterans Memorial Freedom Flag Monument stands proud to salute, thank and honor all U.S. Veterans of the past, present and future. The Veterans Freedom Flag Monument is the largest known permanent flag monument in the United States. East tower is made of red, white and blue granite “bricks” engraved to honor our nation’s Veterans. Visit the website for information on order-ing bricks and additional facts about the monument. Speakers are available by appointment. Parking is available and handicap accessible.

Deep Cut Historical ParkOne mile south of Spencerville at 22900 State Route 66. Acreage: 8.5Hiking and biking access to the Miami-Erie Canal Towpath, picnic shelter, picnic tables, drinking water. The Miami-Erie Canal Corridor Association (MECCA) encompasses a 45-mile section of the Miami-Erie Canal. This section extends approximately 12 miles to the north of Deep Cut and 31 miles south of Deep Cut. The canal towpath is currently accessible and available for hiking and biking. Improvements are ongoing to enhance this 45-mile section.

Ottawa Metro Park One and one half miles east of I-75 on State Route 81 at 2632 Ada Road; acreage: 28789-acre Lima Lake can be used for non-gas powered boats and fish-ing, there is a boat ramp, handicap fishing deck, reservable shelters (3), restrooms, beach, and swimming. The Ottawa Metro Park Beach is 450 feet in length and features wheel-chair access, a “rain drop” water fountain, “Free Fall Extreme” 10 foot water slid, surf slide, mermaid fountain, vending machines, changing area, restrooms and covered picnic area.
