Everyone’s motivations are still high so well done to the children and thank-you to all the staff for their hard work in creating exciting, challenging lessons throughout the term. Earhart have been working real-ly hard with their shape learn-ing. The class have been identi-fying a variety of 2D and 3D shapes, counting sides of shapes and their vertices. Today we worked hard at drawing 2D shapes, using our ruler to make each shape accurate.

Hopper class have been working hard on their writing this week. Fronted adverbials, figurative lan-guage and beautiful handwriting. Well done each and every one of you!

After reading 'Queen Victoria's Bathing Machine', Peake class designed their own machines to help Queen Victoria go swimming without being seen in her bathing suit. We wrote adverts to try and sell them to her and then 'pitched' our ideas Dragon's Den style - trying our best to use expanded noun phrases. There were some very convincing chil-dren!

Darwin class had a fantastic PE lesson this week, learning to mirror each other’s move-ments. They concentrated so hard and were able to mirror each other beautifully.

Year 3 have been honing their mental maths skills this week. We have been looking at addition, subtraction, multiplication and division number facts. Edison class have enjoyed challenging themselves to recall the number facts accurately and as fast as they can!

Within English and Topic this week, Drew researched the various locations, features and events of volca-noes using a wide range of media. They then went on to meticulously plan and organise the information in order to compose high quality explanation texts about 'how volcanoes erupt'. The results were fan-tastic!

King class have been looking in detail at Egyptian clay pots in design and technology this week. After looking at some examples, the children made initial sketches of the pots they wanted to make. Once the children had adapted their plans to suit the resources, they made their pots us-ing modelling clay.

Lillington School Association (LSA) The LSA had our first online meeting on Monday 7th December. We talked about Christmas plans, what we’re going to do in the new year and how we can spend the money that we raised last year. As we weren't able to go to a pantomime this year, we’re bring the pantomime to Lil-lington. Panto Online have produced an online version of Jack and the Beanstalk. Here’s a link for the trailer if you want to show your children—the year 6 children laughed so it must be good… https://pantoonline.co.uk/ We’re always looking for new people to join the LSA team so if you’re interested, please email Mr Holt or, leave a number at the office and someone will call you. The LSA are also making last ditch effort to encourage Father Christmas to come and visit the school next week. He’s been assured that everyone has behaved themselves all year.

Reading We’ve doubled our efforts to develop children’s love of reading in a range of different ways. We’ve bought 100s of new books already this year which the children have en-joyed reading. In school, we’re encouraging the children to read for up to 30 mins every day to help them get absorbed into the fictional worlds created. It would be amazing if par-ents/carers read with, to, or alongside children daily as well. It really makes a differ-ence! Some children have read nearly 500,000 words this term. Next term, we’re looking at developing some book related priz-es for children who regularly read at home, read a certain amount of words, read a certain amount of books and children who read a range of fiction and non fiction.

Food Hampers Year 5 and 6 children have been working incredibly hard alongside Mrs Khara to prepare food hampers for pupil premium families over the Christmas break. Greggs have given school some funding to buy food and to create Christmas hampers. The children have worked together un-loading the food, sorting it and packing the hampers. Families who are to receive the food hampers will be getting messag-es from the school next week. We hope you agree that the children and Mrs Khara have done a great job. Thank-you! And thanks to Greggs for their generous dona-tion.
