Purification of lignin fuel from kraft black liquor by diafiltration

    by Cecilia Johansson

Lignin concentrations were measured using a Shimadzu UV-160

spectrophotometer. The samples were diluted with 0.1 M sodium hydroxide.

Samples were dried at 105C for a period of at least two days. The total dry

substance (TDS) is the ratio between the weight of the sample after and before drying..

The samples were then heated to 950C and left at that temperature for five hours. The

ash content was calculated as the ratio between the weight of the residue after and

    before heating to 950C.

Isolation and purification of lignin and silica from the black liquor

generated during the production of bioethanol from rice straw

    by K. Minu a, K. Kurian Jiby a,*, V.V.N. Kishore b

To determine the possible concentration of lignin in the black liquor, the

variation in lignin content of rice straw during each stage of treatment was estimated

using National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Laboratory Analytical Procedures

(LAPs). The rice straw samples used for lignin estimation were free from both aqueous

and organic extractives and both acid soluble lignin (ASL) and acid insoluble lignin (AISL)

concentrations were determined using LAP No.3 and 4.
