I always look forward to summer because the Texas Hill Country has the most beautiful weather blue skies puffy clouds andhellipgolf Golf at Comanche Trace does not get any better The comments we receive on our course condition are outstanding from folks who play on championship courses nationwide Our members know that our fairways and greens are in the best condition every day Scott Parker Head Golf Course Superintendent at Comanche Trace has been with us since day one of construction His knowledge of turf and course maintenance has brought this golf course to

the forefront of championship golf in Texas and this region Give Scott a pat on the back when you see him next time

As we ease into the lazy days of summer I hope you will make time for some fishing at our private lake and take in a picnic at the River Park These amenities are sometimes overlooked but are available to residents of Comanche Trace The lake is stocked with perch bass and catfish and though itrsquos catch and release the fun is in the thrill of the chasemdashand these fish love to chase I hope you enjoyed the July 4th event at the River Park When Sherri suggested a dunking booth with me in it I hesitated (wouldnrsquot anybody) But I thought of all the camaraderie in this community and the excitement it would generate It was exciting but letrsquos just say I was glad when my shift was over and we were able to raise some needed funds for Hill Country CARES

Have you noticed some recent changes in personnel Our own Robert Kent has been promoted to Service Director of the restaurant outside golf operations and poolside service staff Robert has been 1st Assistant Golf Professional for Comanche Trace for the past year and he has a tremendous service record Join me in congratulating him on this promotion

Comanche Trace has opened its arms to hundreds of new residents As I mentioned last month we currently have 14 custom homes under construction and are anticipating approximately 29 new custom home starts this year and early 2011 Many of those folks are joining the club now so when they make the move permanently to Kerrville they have a ready-made network of friends I am very excited about the direction our club is headed Confidence among members is strong and prospective buyers are choosing to live here

I am encouraged by our position in the club market Event bookings continue to be strong as are membership sales Our golf activities draw in greater numbers of member participants and we look with great anticipation to the coming year

THE DRIVEWAY DRINKERS SOCIETY (DDS) has certainly made a name for itself Used as a selling point by realtors and duplicated elsewhere in Comanche Trace the phenomenon is catching Members have even made t-shirts The concept is a simple one bring a chair a drink and yourself then get to know your neighbors and have a great time

The original idea for the DDS comes from Bill and Peggy Hipple who brought the idea from their previous residence in Gulf Breeze Florida Bill and Peggy moved from Florida to get away from hurricanes in June 2006 (An interesting fact about the Hipples They built their home through the telephone and Internet)

There is no official membership you just have to live on Rock Barn Street or know someone on Rock Barn Street to attend Invitations are informal as well Flyers are posted by the central mailboxes a week in advance of a get-together The DDS meets at least once a month depending on the weather

The only Driveway Drinkersrsquo faux pas is the belief that you have to drink alcohol to come to a gathering This is not the case as cups are filled with anything from iced tea to ice-cold Shiner Bock

If you find yourself down the Rock Barn way stop by and say hi to the driveway drinkers get to know your neighbors and have a great time

I also wanted to take a moment to recap our Kid Comanche Camp This summer staple has become a favorite event for kids The camp begins on Tuesday and goes through Friday Each day the camp offers golf tennis and swimming The week finishes on Friday with a big pizza party and a dip in the pool This year we had some new faces who experienced Kid Comanche for the first time and also ones who have come back year after year

This summer has been an excellent season for golf at Comanche Trace In June we hosted some major events including the LGA Exchange Day the Menrsquos Club Championship and the Kid Comanche Camp

On June 3rd we hosted the LGA Exchange day With the help of Jan Woolnough and the LGA participants the event was a great success The team of Helen Herd Debbie Wade Diana Henry and Mary Morrison took home first place

The heat proved no match for our best players in the Menrsquos Club Championship The championship flight played three rounds on all three courses and the scores were pretty close each day Our new Club Champion and Senior Club Champion was Matt Griffin with scores of 74 78 and 74 Congratulations to Matt for his outstanding play during all three rounds BK Cody finished second with a consistent score of 77 77 and 77

Advances in golf equipment have changed the way we play golf Golf clubs are engineered to correct misstrikes and balls are designed to create less rotation so players can keep the ball in play more through the green

Yet the one thing that hasnrsquot changed is the art of putting Instead of swinging hard and hoping to hit the longest shot putting is an art form of feel and solid putts One of the best techniques used by professionals to hit more solid putts is to put two tees down on both sides of the putter and begin making practice strokes This will give you an indication as to which way yoursquore hitting in your follow-through stroke The best way to gain this feeling is making practice strokes looking at your target and gauging the speed at which you should be stroking the putt Great putters have always practiced by putting balls while they are looking at the hole This technique helps players pick up on the touch and the speed of the greens As all good players will tell you putting makes almost 45 of the game so to become a better golfer and shoot lower scores put a little time into practicing putting Then watch your scores improve

The history of Mexican food as we know it dates back to the 16th century with the arrival of Spanish explorers and the subsequent mingling of Spanish and Aztec customs flavors and ingredients This combination in food eventually led to the creation of the Mexican cuisine we are familiar with today Spanish influences on Mexican ingredients include meats citrus fruit garlic cheese milk and wine while Aztec influences include beans corn and squash The preparation of common Mexican dishes varies regionally due to the availability of local ingredients Throughout the centuries Mexican food has continued to evolve with influence of other countries These changes include the emergence of Tex-Mex food which are the blended flavors and styles of Northern Mexico and the Southwest United States

Mexican food is best known for its iconic chiles Many varieties of chiles are grown in Mexico including habaneros jalapenos and poblanoes Poblano peppers have a mild flavor and are great for soups and other

dishes They can be grilled or roasted to bring out the sweet yet spicy flavor combination On the more extreme end of the chile spectrum are the habanero and jalapeno which are used for hot sauces and spicy dishes Jalapenos are even more versatile peppers used in hotter dishes and also made into chipotles Chipotles are actually red jalapenos that have been dried and smoked They are known for their sweet smoky flavor and are great for salads and dressings

Mexican food is also known for its great array of cheeses These cheeses come in many varieties including Chihuahua Asadero Cotija and Panelandashto name a few Chihuahua cheese is similar to Gouda in texture and flavor Aasadero and Chihuahua cheeses are both great for topping dishes as they melt well Cotija cheese is salty and strong and is known for the zest it adds to pasta or casserole dishes

Although we are familiar with a wide variety of Mexican spices and herbs like cilantro and cumin there

are less known flavorings and plants used in Mexican dishes Piloncillo (Mexican Sugar) is used in desserts baked goods and holiday dishes Chaya well-known to the Mayan culture is similar to spinach and packs an even richer flavor Epazote is a leafy vegetable and herb with a pungent flavor It is most often used with black beans for flavormdashand it is a traditional treatment of various medical conditions

There are a wide variety of herbs spices plants and vegetables to use when cooking authentic Mexican food Many of these ingredients can be found at your local supermarket in the specialty section or in Mexican supermarkets or restaurants But for the best quality of ingredients always go to your local farmers market or fresh produce store Remember the key to quality Mexican cooking is the same as any other cuisine you must use fine-quality ingredients

PREPARATION

In a hot skillet roast peppers then place in a bowl with hot water for 20 minutes to rehydrate Next transfer the chiles to a food processor add 112 cups of the soaking liquid along with the garlic Blend until smooth then strain through a medium mesh The consistency should be similar to canned tomato sauce Season with salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees Place the sauce and tortillas near the stove with a baking sheet beside them Set a small skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of the oil Heat oil until hot then dip both sides of the tortilla into the sauce and lay it in the oil Let it sear and sizzle for about 20 seconds then use a small spatula to flip it over Sear the other side for 20 seconds Transfer to the baking sheet folding it in half Continue dipping and frying remaining tortillas Arrange the fried folded tortillas in a group and pop them in the oven for about 5 minutes Pull out warm tortillas top with shredded chicken grated cheese and sliced onions Generously smother with remaining sauce and garnish with additional cheese

The Rio Friomdashit certainly lives up to its name Those of you who have enjoyed a hot summer day in a tent in Lost Maples or a tube at Garner State Park know the refreshing delight of the clear crisp and surprisingly cold waters We were headed to the Frio on this sunny summer weekend swim suits on and picnic baskets in hand Our sights were set on a tubing site on River Road around Concan a place some friends told us was ldquoout in the middle of nowhererdquo Well knowing the Hill Country they were probably right

Three-quarters of the way in to the drive we werenrsquot too far from civilization Taking the scenic drive down 39 from Ingram sent us over forks of the Guadalupe and through twists and turns that took our breaths away We hit Highway 83 and headed south through Leakey and we were reminded of old family vacations and our teenage years at summer camp

But taking a left on to River Road yes we were suddenly ldquoout in the middle of nowhererdquo Wersquod lost radio reception except for a Tejano station and some contemporary Christian wersquod lost cell signal and werenrsquot going to regain it as far as we could see We knew instantly that this was the perfect spot to spend an afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives

Shaded by giant Cypresses we found a little roadside shack where we could rent our tubes and float our picnic basket Rays of sunlight snuck in between the tree branches and the sounds of running water and little bugs provided the perfect soundtrack to our relaxing day trip After the rains at the beginning of the summer the Frio swelled with anticipa-tion beckoning us to jump in with a big splash

As seasoned tubers we knew this was the only way to do it

Therersquos no sense in trying to inch your way into the Friomdashno matter how hard you try you canrsquot get used to the shockingly cold water by just submerging your toes one at a time Nope itrsquos a cannonball or nothing with this river with the sun over-head promising the perfect balance of warm and cool

Over calm pools and rushing rapids the Frio makes for the perfect tubing experience Just when you think itrsquos time for a little fun rapids both big and small come out from around the corner sending tubes rushing over the rocks And just when yoursquove had enough of the exciting stuff deep pools of crystal-clear cool water invite you to stay and enjoy them even if for just a little while

After enjoying our picnic-in-a-tube and spending a bit too long reapplying sunscreen our adventure down the Frio River had come to a happy end And after a long hard day of laying back and basking in glorious sunlight what could be more ap-pealing than an ice-cold beer and a delicious gourmet dinner Knowing just the spot we headed north to RM 1050 through Utopia and east down Ranch Road 470 to Tarpley The infa-mous Mac and Erniersquos awaited us around the corner sizzling seafood glazed quail legs and delicious dessert served on Styrofoam plates with plastic silverware was the ideal setting for our post-tubing taste buds

With sun-kissed cheeks big smiles and full bellies we headed up 16 and back home Counting our blessingsmdasha big one being that we live here in the Hill Country where nature comes to relaxmdashwe found ourselves so thankful for friends family and our Texas backyard cold rivers hot tubes and everything in between

ldquoThe Frio has always meant a wonderful time with friends andor family We think the waters there hold special powers Itrsquos been great to see the Comanche gang laugh just like kids and there is nothing better than seeing a lsquonewbiersquo on their first tube ride with a smile as big as Texas

We are not really sure which is more fun - the excitement of riding through a series of rapids the thrill of making it over the lsquowidow makerrsquo (our nick name for a little waterfall) without getting flipped off of the tube or re-living the experiences with our friends as we drift on down the river through the cool deep pools underneath the willowy Cypress trees Just a simple poetic day

Bill Dillard is telling the truth He and his wife Dee have been involved in the oil industry almost their entire lives From the oil booms of the 70s to the oil busts of the 80s to the recent price jumps of the mid-2000s Bill has really seen it all While that adventure has taken the Dillards to several different states they have always been heavily involved in the oil industry Recently retired Bill recounts what he has learned in the industry and how his adventure eventually brought him to Comanche Trace

Bill begins ldquoI went to TCU and majored in Business Administration I eventually graduated in 1961mdashalthough I should have got out in lsquo60 but partying interfered At that time IBM was in its infancy and it was a true glamour job Everyone wanted to work there I actually got an interview and had three or four of them One of the final tests was to stand up draw a word from a hat and we were supposed to talk about that word for a minute or two Well I drew lsquoCERAMICSrsquo and they asked me to talk for a minute I didnrsquot know what in the hell a lsquoceramicrsquo was I told them that and my interview abruptly ended and I was back to the oil fieldsrdquo

ldquoI was born and raised in Midland Texas My mother was a housewife and my father worked the oil fields his entire life

In the early days he actually delivered oil field supplies on horseback Then when I was 15 or 16 I went to work in the fields I worked every oil field in

West Texas And I guess I have been doing it ever sincerdquo

And with an unceremonious start Bill began his career While he made light of his interview Bill was quite serious about his career ldquoI did want to work oil but the oil fields in lsquo60 were in a big depression My dad was a manager for a steel company that sold pipe to the oil industry in Midland and he got me into their first sales training program They sent me to their mill for a year in Dangerfield Texas I worked at the mill for a year and then progressed to Dallas New Orleans and on to Houston over the course of 12 yearsrdquo

Dillardrsquos experience and knowledge in the oil industry was evident and he rapidly progressed ldquoI was a sales trainee a clerk a salesman district manager and an assistant regional manager I had two sons and I traveled all the time It wasnrsquot good for my family life and I was married 22 years to my first wife But that was the job so I did itrdquo

Quickly making a name for himself Dillard rapidly climbed his way up the corporate ladder eventually landing as the President of Wilson Supply Company in 1972 Over the next decade Dillard thrived however the concept of owning his own company proved too strong a temptation ldquoI always had the idea of owning my own company and in January of 1982 I started PipeCo Inc We were distributors for casing tubing and drill pipe to oil companies globally We had accounts in Spain Mexico

China Germany and all over the United States I couldnrsquot have started at a worse time though The analysts said oil was going to be at $100 per barrel and the rig count at that time was 4600 in operation That was in November of lsquo81 and by January of lsquo82 the rig count was dropping at 400 per day and by lsquo86 the rig count was 642 Oh and oil was selling for $10 per barrel Obviously not the best time to jump into the oil businessrdquo

Though Dillard was busy with his new company he still had time for a date His wife Dee said ldquoWe met in 1980 I met him on a blind date I had been single for five years and he had been single for maybe six months It went ok but I took my own car I told him if I didnrsquot like him I wouldnrsquot be staying for dinner but I obviously did We met in May and 6 months later we were married in Las Vegas And wersquoll be celebrating 30 years on November the 8thrdquo

Though he had much prosperity in his personal life Dillardrsquos business struggled to survive He feverishly looked for ways to finance his ongoing operations ldquoI had merged with a public company in lsquo85 and inherited a 25 million dollar debt By June of lsquo86 we couldnrsquot fund the debt anymore and our bank went under It left us scurrying for lenders which

we eventually found but we sold out to El Paso Electric Company in a hostile takeover El Paso Electric was diversifying ndash they bought a lamp company in New Jersey and moved them to Juarez Labor was cheap obviously They bought a steel company and my company and some others they bought us for nothing and tried to run all these non-regulated businesses as a utility company They were completely lost In the early lsquo90s I picked up the Dallas Morning News Sunday Edition and the headline was lsquoEl Paso Electric Company files chapter 11rsquordquo

What might have been a stressful time Dillard saw an opportunity to get back on the road to owning his own company again ldquoAll these

companies El Paso Electric was trying to run unregulated were outside an electric companyrsquos realm of expertise It went under and our company was purchased again this time by an individual out of Chicago We worked for him for 3 years We bought up a lot of inventory during that time which made us a huge supplier Our arrangement with the gentleman from Chicago lasted a couple of years and I worked out an arrangement to buy my company backrdquo

After starting his company losing it in a hostile takeover fighting through new challenges with a new owner and eventually regaining control of the same company Dillard was back at square one ldquoReally we just started all over again and named the company

ldquoI always had the idea of owning my own company and in January of 1982 I started PipeCo Inc We were

distributors for casing tubing and drill pipe to oil companies globallyrdquo


PipeCo Services My steel companies stuck with me and we found some financing It wasnrsquot as I envisioned it there were so many bumps in the road and looking back there were a lot of things I would have done differently The price of oil and gas dictated activity and timing was everything You canrsquot predict prices although a lot of people try But we had a great run and we were very successful We made it through all of the hardships and I sold the company to my employees in 2000rdquo

Yet even after the sale Dillard wasnrsquot quite done with the oil industry ldquoAfter PipeCo we formed WIllo Oil and Gas We drilled several wells with EXXON as our partner on 10000 acres south of Ozona Texas Four years later we had three dry holes and were looking for a way out We sold out didnrsquot make a dime but we got out of the trap I also invested with Hall-Houston Exploration Company ndash Irsquove been on their board 14 years They have a fund designed specifically to explore and find offshore oil We are involved in that and I have a hunting lease eight miles from the Rio Grande Four of my partners on that are oil and gas explorationists So I get a daily dose of all things oil and gas during the hunting seasonrdquo

While Dillard has obviously been busy with his business interests he has another passion that has consumed him for the better part of his life golf His involvement with golf has stretched from the public courses of West Texas all the way to one of the finest and most well-known golf courses in the United States Champions Golf Club near Houston Run by golf icons Jackie Burke Jr and Jimmy Demaret it is the pinnacle of golf ldquoJackie and Jimmy were icons in the golf world Jimmy was the announcer for

the Wonderful World of Golf Jimmy won many tournaments and was one of the most liked golf people in the world Jackie is 87 years old now and still runs Champions in Houston Jackie won the Masters Tournament in 1956 and it was a true pleasure to work with him Jimmy won it three times They are amazing golfers and people in general I was on their board 26 straight years Burke said it must be some sort of a record but he doesnrsquot keep records so he doesnrsquot know All I know is that it was a tough day that I left Championsrdquo

Having sold PipeCo Services Dee was ready to put down some new roots ldquoThe minute I found out that he was selling the company I just said lsquoI donrsquot care where we go but

wersquore not staying in Houstonrsquo We wanted to move to Kerrville because it split the distance to Ruidoso where we had a summer home When I got to the Hill Country I just fell in love with it So we eventually sold the summer home and began construction here at Comanche Trace in 2001 We became charter members of the club and have loved everything about being hererdquo Dillard adds ldquoI love all of it I love the club the people the coursehellip everything is just perfect We call it Paradise and it really is We firmly believe itrsquos the most beautiful place on earthrdquo

And for Dillard that beauty is greatly reflected in the golf course ldquoIrsquove played Augusta Oakmont

Pine Valley St Andrews Turnberry and most any other famous course you can think of This golf course in comparison to all those is as good as any of them Itrsquos such a great course and facility and this community has grown from being something so small to being such a tremendous group We have just had so much fun watching it all come togetherrdquo

Still active with his investments and involved as a board member on several oil and gas exploration companiesmdashnot to mention his daily rounds of golfmdashDillard stays busy As for how long he intends to remain active in the oil industry Dillard puts it best ldquoAs long as Irsquom on this side of the divot Irsquoll be involvedrdquo

If you ask Charles Ingram about his art hersquoll say that itrsquos not of his own making ldquoGod can take all the credit He is the Ultimate Artist and the Ultimate Creator people are amazed but itrsquos not because of merdquo Ingram said You would never know it but beneath this humble facade lies an incredible artistic talent

Ingram son of a US Air Force aircraft mechanic and Vietnam veteran settled in San Antonio where he spent his formative years Spending time in Illinois and New York among other places he ultimately returned to Texas

Though he is based mainly out of San Antonio Ingram maintains a presence in Kerrville Many of his works are landscape oil paintings of the Kerrville Ingram and Fredericksburg areas Riverrsquos Edge Gallery and Kerrville Framing both represent his work locally In August of 2006 his work was part of an exhibition in concert with Kerrville Framing at the Comanche Trace Clubhouse

Some of his favorite subjects to paint are beautiful Texas landscapes and the Hill Country in particular ldquoOne of the things I like most about Texas landscapes is that there are so many diverse areas Each is rugged and untamed Therersquos something about it that is beautiful from that standpoint that you know that it survives and manages to thriverdquo Ingram mused His work captures

a cross-section of Texas regions from local Guadalupe riverbeds to canyons to urban scenes and beyond But like anyone with a true appreciation for nature Ingram has his favorites ldquoBig Bend is one of my favorite areas to paintmdashitrsquos incrediblerdquo he said Ingramrsquos oil painting subjects are not exclusive to Texas but are also inspired by his varied travels including time spent in the Northeast and Ukraine

However talented he is lsquoartistrsquo was not a title he chose willingly ldquoIn fact Irsquove been running from that title most of my life until the 90s at least I think God shut all the doors and forced me to do itrdquo Ingram said

His work speaks for itself garnering the attention of high profile patrons of the arts ldquoI started doing paintings and I did a mural in the SBC Centerrdquo Ingram recounted ldquoMrs Holt [wife of Peter Holt the owner of Spurs Sports and Entertainment] had seen a mural I had done in the On the Border Restaurant in San Antonio She told the person who was heading up all the interior art projects that she wanted that person to do the mural inside of the stadiumrdquo

Ingram has found work all over the country in fact you may have come across it and never even known it was his ldquoI did some political cartoons for a syndicate in New York when I was living there back in the Reagan administration

Irsquove done numerous art projects including a project for PBS out of Pittsburgh I had to do large-scale pen-and-ink drawings to match the styles of the 1860s because they were doing a narration of a riot that occurred there The special was called lsquoThe River Ran Redrsquo The pen-and-ink drawings were meant to dovetail the stylings of Thomas Nastrdquo Ingram said Ingram has also done murals for the NBA Final Four and the All Star Jam as well as projects for homes in San Antonio and Austin

Most recently Ingram has become fascinatedmdashconsumed evenmdashby his recent sculpture work ldquoItrsquos an obsessionrdquo Ingram chuckled ldquoItrsquos unlike anything else Irsquove ever experienced I ran from it because I didnrsquot want to be one of those weird artists Irsquove found my calling what Irsquom meant to do Irsquoll die with a mallet and chisel in my hand I know thatrdquo

rom the brightly lit lanterns on posts outside to the colorful landscaping peeking out from behind the house Judy and Don Coombsrsquo home on Oak Park is immediately open and friendly Built by Brad Moore Builders the home is nestled against Hole 1 of The Creeks golf course The relaxing sounds of the babbling creek in the backyard provide the perfect setting for this couple who both love the outdoors

ldquoAs a couple ldquo Don said ldquothe most outstanding feature for us is to be able to go out in the back in the afternoon sit on our patio look out and see the deer and the antelope playrdquo Judy added ldquoAnd the beautiful birds in the feedersrdquo

Laughing Don replied ldquoYou know yoursquore getting old when you go out and have cocktail hour with binoculars and a bird book Wersquove seen just about everything out hererdquo

The sincerity in both Don and Judyrsquos laughter reflects in the warmth of their home Walking into the home a simple chandelier hangs from a high ceiling grand but inviting Wooden flamingos and palm tree paintings grace dark rustic-wood cabinetry and indoor stone ac-cents Elegant blinds and draperies from Turkey Hill and Clarlyle complement crystal-clear Jeld-Wen windows that look out over the creek and the golf course Mixing elements of their former Florida beach house with the rough hewn cedar beams and rustic stars in their Hill Country home the Coombses have found the perfect infusion of warm welcoming bright and sunny

ldquoWe came from a golfing country club in Florida but it was just about finished growingrdquo Don said ldquoComan-che Trace is similar in that itrsquos a great golfing club but it is still growing It has a much younger representation and itrsquos nice for people our age to develop friendships with younger peoplerdquo

The couple first visited Comanche Trace four years ago while visiting their daughter in Texas ldquoWe have a daughter here in Kerrville and when we were trying to figure out where we wanted to move next she was the reason we came hererdquo Judy said ldquoWe had been in the area and we really liked it while visiting her we came up and saw Comanche Tracerdquo

Brad Moore too came to Kerrville because of family ldquoAbout five or six years ago my uncle brought me here hersquos the police chief of Kerrvillerdquo Brad said ldquoWe built his home and were working on building a spec home

at the same time After that well we just kept on building housesrdquo

ldquoSordquo Brad continued ldquoafter my uncle brought me here I just stayedmdashI really liked it a lot This is actually the only neighborhood in which I build in Kerrville and Comanche Trace has really been a great place for us Because the homes are all higher-end homes building them has been a fun part for me We get to do some really neat building and design here and all the finish-outs are so much funrdquo

When the Coombses were initially selecting a builder they emphasized that above all quality and dependability were the two features most important to them For them Brad Moore was the perfect choice ldquoWe love to keep our clients happyrdquo Brad said ldquoand in order to do that we have to complete a really great project and pay attention to what our clientsrsquo needs are By doing that we have built about a dozen to fifteen homes over the last five years here Itrsquos a small area so everyone knows whatrsquos going on If I donrsquot take care of my clients then people are going to know that By taking care of them we continue to get more and more homesrdquo

ldquoWe wanted our builder to be depend-ablerdquo Don explained ldquoWe had to be able to call on someone if we needed help for any particular problem that might develop If I want an add-on or something repaired I know that I can go to Brad and hersquoll be right there to help usrdquo Judy affirmed this sentiment ldquoWhen Brad says he stays with his people hersquos definitely telling the truthrdquo she said ldquoAt the end of the year he isnrsquot gone If we need Brad for anythingmdashand wersquove asked him for advice on hiring a painter and installing a screen doormdashwe call him and he is right there with the answersrdquo

ldquoItrsquos all about the peoplerdquo Brad said ldquoThe homes are fun but the relationships I make with my clients are always more valuable than the homesrdquo

got an electric billrdquo Judy laughed ldquoHe was almost dancing on the roofrdquo

ldquoThe whole home is insulated with biofoamrdquo Brad explained Biofoam is a spray-in-place foam that applies as a liquid and quickly expands to 100 times its original size As it expands it fills each wall space and roof gap creating an airtight environment ldquoAnother huge fac-tor is the air conditioning system I know

those are kind of boring sometimesrdquo Brad laughed ldquobut this one is like the Cadillac of AC systems Itrsquos a Bryant Evo-lution system and itrsquos incrediblerdquo

The home features other energy-saving measures as well ldquoWe use propane inside for the fireplace outside for the outdoor cooking area and for the tankless water

heatersrdquo Don added ldquoThe heating and cooling efficiency is outstanding I canrsquot speak highly enough about the job they didrdquo

Sure enough Judy and Don had noth-ing but great things to say about Brad Moore Builders from the energy effi-ciency of the home to the dedication hersquos shown to them from the very beginning And though the construction has been

ldquoMy favorite part about building houses in Co-manche Trace is seeing my clients faces when theyrsquore happy with their homesrdquo Brad said with a smile Without a doubt he had two very happy faces sitting across the table ldquoBut before theyrsquore living in their home itrsquos when we start framing the house and they see it start coming togetherrdquo he added ldquoBefore that point itrsquos mostly just land and concrete but when that structure comes up folks come out and see that and form a personal attachment to their home Itrsquos really exciting for all of my clients Itrsquos the visible lsquoWowrsquo fac-tor that every day something is changingrdquo

The Coombses had made a couple of changes to the plans of their home before the building started ldquoWe added the corner fireplacerdquo Judy said ldquoand added on Donrsquos office to the original plansrdquo Don added ldquoOn the fly we added the rock wall outside and the flagstone patio in the outdoor kitchen area and the arborrdquo

ldquoOne of the things that we truly enjoyed about Brad is that he was willing to listen and make changes and give us advice as the building process pro-gressedrdquo Judy said ldquoIf he was willing to go for it he made sure it got donerdquo Don continued ldquoThat was really important to us because we were just reviewing and fine-tuning plans But like Brad said when you see the structure and framing actually going up you start to see the creativity come in So if we thought about some changes along the way Brad would help us get them inrdquo

Don Judy and Brad certainly made a great team in putting this lovely home togethermdashproof that qual-ity and craftsmanship really are essential elements in the Comanche Trace living experience ldquoThis is a great area and wersquove enjoyed being hererdquo Don said ldquoWhen we came from Florida in April 2008 we were in a droughthellip and then we came to Texas and Texas was in a drought too So this spring we saw a green Texas for the first time The wildflowers were growing everywhere and we were absolutely amazed at the beauty of this placerdquo

Kidrsquos summer KiCKOff partyThe annual Kidrsquos Summer Kickoff Party took place on Thursday May 27th at the Comanche Trace Pool and was a splashing success Dozens of kids of all ages turned out to spend the longer summer hours playing on a veritable jungle of inflatable toys try their hand at pool games and just have fun getting to know one another Hot dogs hamburgers and ice cream floats provided a golden opportunity to chow down

tWiliGht GOlfComanche Tracersquos most recent installment of the ever-popular Twilight Golf was held Friday June 18th with a dinner at the Comanche Trace River Park The weather was perfect with a light summer breeze and plentiful shade from the old growth oak groves Couples dined on Chefrsquos famous ribs barbeque chicken and all the traditional sides that comprise a great cookout All those who attended had a blast and we are looking forward to holding Twilight Golf dinner at the River Park more often during these beau-tiful summer months
