Life After Stroke Training Course outline This qualification is comprised of 2 or 3* units at level 2. Stroke Awareness offers insight into the causes of stroke, how to recognise one and how to respond when someone is having a stroke or TIA. It also covers longer term management and where to go for support. The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) units focus on a broader view of brain injury and the impact it has on both the individual and their families. It covers aspects of communication, personality changes and challenging behaviour. Who should attend this course? These courses are open to all – social and health care professionals, carers and families of those who are affected by stroke and (ABI). How to access this training This course is available as an in-house training course for up to 20 delegates in your workplace. Or can be accessed for individual learners at various locations around the UK. On completion of this course you will receive a level 2 award from NCFE. Unit 1: Stroke Awareness

• What a stroke is • Know how to recognise a

stroke • Understand the management

of risk factors for stroke • Understand the importance

of emergency response and treatment for stroke

• Understand the management of stroke

Unit 2: Understand the impact of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) on individuals

• Understand ABI • Understand the impact of an

ABI on the individual • Understand the specialist

communication needs of an individual with ABI

• Understand the impact that personality changes can have on an individual and those providing support

• Understand the impact of challenging behaviour

Unit 3. Supporting families of individuals with ABI (Not available for individual learners)

• Understand the importance of working in a family centred way

• Understand the long term effects of ABI

• Be able to apply legislation that is relevant to carers of individuals with ABI

• Be able to support families and friends who hold the primary caring role

• Know the support available from other professionals and agencies

QCF Level 2 Award in Stroke Awareness

Course costsTo hold this qualification in your workplace this 3 unit course will cost £2025 for 15 students and an additional £135 per student, up to a maximum of 20. For individual learners you can access our 2 unit courses across the country for £170 per person.

FundingThis qualification is recognised for funding from the Workforce Development Fund if your staff are registered on the NMDS-SC in England. Our prices are structured so that if you are eligible for funding you can claim back 100% of the tuition fees for 15 – 20 students.

Stroke TrainingWe provide high quality bespoke training and further education for stroke care. On completion of this course, the next step would be to complete the QCF Level 3 Certificate in Stroke Care Management.
