What is special about Musical Steps? There are several things that set us apart from other classes and make Musical Steps such a special experience for our class members:

educational content - the hidden secret ingredient- activities are based on proven teaching techniques from the world-renowned Kodaly, Dalcroze & Suzuki methods- we teach all the basic musical concepts, skills and terminology- children experiment with percussion and learn how to play the instruments correctly- we play excerpts of ‘real’ music, so the children hear performances by great musicians & learn different musical

styles- classes are written by a qualified teacher, music graduate & published educational author who has years of

experience and expertise in early-years music- the educational content really is hidden - we have to point it out to parents, as they often don’t notice it amongst all

the fun!

our activities - we understand what children can do, and we know what they enjoy

- some of our activities are more challenging than you might expect - the children will amaze you with their response

- some of our activities are easier than you might expect because they need to be - eg our toddler Song System™ contains songs with only two or three different notes and extremely simple rhythms. The children love these because they are at the right level for them musically - ie they can actually sing them - and they love the funny actions and games that go with them.

- we use props and visual aids effectively to hold the children’s attention- we have the right amount of variety, and the right amount of repetition so the children have fun and learn at the

same time

simplicity - with babies and young children, less is definitely more

- no backing tracks means no distractions, and so the babies and children focus on the activities- simple unaccompanied singing means the children can hear the melody and develop their musical ‘ear’- parents describe the classes as a special time to bond with their child - because our activities are so easy to do- no backing tracks means the teacher is able to communicate directly with the children and connect with them

the atmosphere

- classes are fun and friendly- we get to know the adults as well as the children, and we learn everyone’s name- we have the right mix of calm and lively activities

Our class members say:

! ! “we love it” ! !

! ! “the content is excellent and varied” ! !

! ! “the highlight of our week”
