Introduction
• La thermodynamique est une science fondée
au début du XIXè siècle. Elle se préoccupe de
ce qui apparait (phénomène). C’est donc une
science (phénoménologique).

Introduction
• La thermodynamique s’intéresse exclusivement aux
paramètres physiques caractéristiques de l’état de la
matière : pression, volume, température, conductivité
électrique, production de chaleur ou de travail,
changements de nature chimique, etc.
• Elle se préoccupe donc du niveau macroscopique de
la matière, c’est-à-dire à ce qui est observable.

Introduction
• Cette science repose sur deux notions : l’énergie
et l’entropie. Elle affirme que, dans l’univers, la
première (énergie) se conserve et la seconde
(entropie) ne peut qu’augmenter.
• Finalement, l’objet de la thermodynamique est de
prévoir l’évolution d’un système dans des
conditions données.

I-1 Description
• Un système thermodynamique (ou tout simplement
système) peut être défini comme un ensemble de
substances susceptibles ou non de réagir
chimiquement. Cet ensemble où se trouve la matière
étudiée est séparé de l’univers par une surface (ou
paroi) réelle ou fictive. Tout ce qui n’appartient pas au
système est appelé milieu extérieur ou environnement.

• Système isolé: Un système est dit isolé, si sa paroi
ne permet aucun échange avec le milieu extérieur.
En pratique, il est impossible de réaliser un système
parfaitement isolé en empêchant totalement les
échanges d’énergie.

système parfaitement isolé.

certaines sont proportionnelles à la quantité de

• Définition : une transformation d’un système est une
évolution du système entre deux états d’équilibres.
• Elle peut être réversible ou irréversible.
1. Transformation réversible. Si au cours de la
transformation, le système passe de façon infiniment lente
d’un état d’équilibre à un autre par l’intermédiaire d’une
succession d’états d’équilibre, la transformation ainsi
réalisée est dite réversible.

a) Gaz enfermé dans un cylindre surmonté d’un piston de masse mo négligeable (figure I.2).
On effectue la compression de façon infiniment lente, de telle sorte qu’à chaque instant le gaz soit dans un état très voisin de l’équilibre (pression uniforme)

• Pour s’approcher des conditions de réversibilité, on peut placer sur le piston une infinité de masses infiniment petites de façon progressive, faisant subir une compression lente qui l’emmène à l’état 2
