Article without full text:

Couper, J., Haller, M., Ziegler, A., Knip, M., Ludvigsson, J., & Craig, M. (2014). Phases of type

1 diabetes in children and adolescents. Pediatric Diabetes, 1518-25. doi:10.1111/pedi.12188

I decided to do my search on Type 1 Diabetes. I went to the library on the web site of

Monmouth University through current student. The library gave me quick links in which showed

me A to Z database list, I clicked on it, gave me a list of information in alphabetical order. I then

clicked on CINAHL (Ebsco). Then it took me to Monmouth University Library Database Login.

I logged in which showed me CINAHL a complete search. CINAHL is a database which gives

information about allied health nursing, alternative medicine community medicine. I then typed

in Type 1 Diabetes which I received 17,560 articles, which gave me broad information.

I pressed the start button and the picture screen at the same time to screenshot the first

page, which was then pasted on word document as instructed. In order for me to limit my search,

I typed in Type 1 Diabetes in Children, the search research reduced to 985 articles by using

“and”, screenshot was done also. I chose the two articles that I wanted to explore. The first

article is Type 1 Diabetes in children “Sarah’s Story” which is in full text. The second one is

“Phases of Type 1 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents”. When I clicked on the second article,

it appeared that the journal is not in full text.

Even though the second article was not able to be retrieved, information was given to request the

article through interlibrary loan. The two citation were obtained by getting the necessary

information and using APA format. After finishing my search, I realized that it is essential to

filter the articles by using “and”, or “or” which will help to narrow the search of articles because

the computer always gives the broad information. I think this search will help me in my brochure

project in the sense that now l know how to decrease broad articles to which l really need,

instead of searching through thousands of articles. These articles also focus on the actual topic l

need, which is type 1 diabetes in children.

The two search engines that are used to obtain the websites are Google and Bing. The

screenshot was taken and I was able to go to American Diabetes Association and American

Heart Association by typing the names. The two websites gave me the information about my

search. The information on these websites are precise. There are also references.

American diabetes Association is organization that deals with diabetes. This organization

goal is to research for prevent, cure, and manage diabetes. The goal for American Heart

Association to help citizens to live healthy lives, even though they deal with cardiac disease.

They also have good information about diabetes which is a predisposing cause for heart disease.

The information that l received from these websites are accurate and can be used for the

brochure project. The websites provide adequate information for this project.
