CIRCULATION SERVICES

HOW TO GET AN OPPL CARDLibrary cards are issued free of charge to residents living within the corporate limits of the Village of Orland Park. Cards are valid for three years. Library cards are issued at the Circulation Desk. One current form of identification, showing your present address, is required when applying for a card or when renewing an expired card. Acceptable forms of identification include, but are not limited to, driver’s license, State of Illinois ID card, current utility bill, checkbook, and vehicle registration. Residents of the Village of Orland Park can pre-register for a free Orland Park Public Library card and place holds on materials by visiting the library’s website at orlandparklibrary.org. Patrons are responsible for all items borrowed with their library card.

LIBRARY CARDS FOR CHILDRENChildren, age birth-13, need to have a parent or guardian with them to apply and sign for their own library card. One current form of identification with your present address is required. Parents or guardians are responsible for all items, fines and fees on the child’s library card. The library does not restrict privileges based on age. Children age 14 and older can apply for a library card without their parent or guardian. They need to have one form of identification, showing their present address, when applying for or renewing their library card.

RECIPROCAL BORROWERSIf you have a library card in good standing from another public library, you may use your card at the Orland Park Public Library. Reciprocal borrowers have some restrictions.

NON-RESIDENTSNon-residents may obtain a card by paying a fee determined by multiplying the current library tax rate times the equalized assessed valuation on the non-resident’s tax bill. Cards are issued for one year to all members of the homeowner’s immediate family at that address.

TEACHER LOAN CARDSTeacher loan cards are available to certified, full-time educators or media specialists working in schools served by the Orland Park Public Library. Preschool Teacher loan cards are also available. Please see the staff in the Youth Services Department for more information.

CORPORATE LIBRARY CARDSCorporate library cards are available for businesses located within the Village of Orland Park. To apply for an Orland Park Public Library Card, a request must be made on the company’s letterhead. The request must include the nature of your business/non-profit organization, the name of the employee authorized to use the business library card and a signature from the business or organization’s president, owner or manager. All requests should be forwarded to Head of Circulation Services at the Orland Park Public Library. For more information on corporate library cards, call 708-428-5109.

Lucky Day CollectionThe Orland Park Public Library offers its Lucky Day Collection for patrons in search of popular items. BOOK DROPS & AFTER HOURS LOCKERS The Orland Park Public Library has drive-up book drops available for the return of books on the exterior of the building on the south wall and walk-up book drops on the west wall to the right of the main entrance.

The library has twenty after hours lockers available for patrons to use 24/7 without coming into the building. Patrons may contact us to have their materials checked out to them and placed in one of these lockers accessible by special code. The entrance to the after hours lockers is located just east of the front doors.

RENEWING ITEMSMost materials can be renewed once. Feature videos and DVDs, video games, Leapfrog games and the Lucky Day Collection cannot be renewed. Materials can be renewed in-person or by phone (708-428-5104), using the online renewal form on the library’s website at www.orlandparklibrary.org, or through the SWAN Online Catalog, also accessed through the website. Materials that are more than two (2) weeks overdue or on hold for another patron cannot be renewed.

RESERVING ITEMSMaterials may be reserved by Orland Park Public Library cardholders in-person, by phone (708-428-5150), using the online reserve form on the library’s website, or through the SWAN Online Catalog, also accessed through the website. You will be contacted by phone or email when the item is ready for pick-up at the Express Reserves section located in the lobby.

They can help you locate a particular title or author; and provide instruction in research techniques for print and electronic resources. If the materials you need are not available at the Orland Park Public Library, the staff can request them from libraries throughout the state.

READER SERVICESLibrarians can help you select reading materials based on your favorite author, genre, and interests or introduce you to something new. Patrons may utilize the online Books & Movie Mates form at orlandparklibrary.org/reader.htm to request reading and film suggestions. Adult Services offers book discussions and reading programs throughout the year to motivate adults to read and try new genres and authors.

ONLINE SERVICESThe Orland Park Public Library offers various services and programs online via orlandparklibrary.org. OPPL is proud to offer Media on Demand, a collection of best-selling and classic audiobooks and e-Books available 24/7 from the library’s website, orlandparklibrary.org. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYServices offered by the Information Technology staff include computer classes in the Computer Lab; public use computers with Internet access, databases and software like Word or Excel; wireless access throughout the building; and limited assistance in using the SWAN Online Catalog, databases and software.

OUTREACH SERVICESHomebound services are available to those Orland Park Public Library card holders who cannot physically come to the library, even temporarily. Materials are selected and delivered and picked up from their residence.

YOUTH PROGRAMSThe Youth Services Department offers special events such as storytellers, musicians, jugglers and much more. Story times are offered year-round for children birth through Grade 5. Summer reading programs are offered for birth through teens. The library offers a wide range of youth programs to serve the interests of the community.
