Librarians as trainers in a network of collaboration to promote health information diffusion

Point out librarians’ role and responsibilities to promote the use of Open Access (OA) information for public health.

The changing scenarios in scientifi c communication require new tasks for health librarians to cope with the needs of the different stakeholders in the information chain.

Lessons learned from NECOBELAC experience:

The multidisciplinary approach guarantees mutual benefi ts to all stakeholders in OA publishing.

Librarians should work closer to researchers to better know their needs and information gaps.

Researchers are often unaware of new ICT tools to retrieve and disseminate health information.

Flexible training is needed to meet local requirements in different geographical areas and international quality standards in OA publishing.

The involvement of different stakeholders and institutions in the health information chain is a key element for the success and sustainability of training across national borders.

NECOBELAC strategy:

Topic mapsInnovative and fl exible teaching tools based on web semantic technology to support training and enhance the learning process (peer-reviewed contents linked to online resources, schemesand points of discussion for multi-level professional settings)

main advantage fruitful discussionon concepts’ interrelation.

positive feedback gathered through online surveys and interviews.
