good I changed my schedule to attend all three days.” At other conferences, he comes in, gives a speech, autographs a few books, and leaves. Not at Freedom-Fest. He attends all three days! So does John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods Market. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” he told me. “Especially the debates!” In fact, Steve Forbes and John Mackey are our official ambas-sadors. They will be at this year’s event all three days, from the fun opening cocktail party to the gala Saturday night banquet (a Masquer-ade Ball!). What makes FreedomFest so different? For three glorious days, the “best and the brightest” get to-gether to discuss, debate, and cele-brate philosophy, history, geo-poli-tics, science and technology, art and literature, healthy living, music, dance, and religion. We even have a three-day investment conference with your favorite experts. Nobody is bored at FreedomFest! As Milton Friedman said, “FreedomFest is the great place to talk, argue, listen, celebrate the tri-umphs of liberty, assess the dangers to liberty, and provide that eternal vigilance that is the price of liberty.” This year FreedomFest has seven conferences all in three days:

World Economic Summit 1. Our World Economic Sum-mit and special emergency meeting on Thursday, July 14. We are entering one of the most critical and dangerous periods of economic upheaval in modern his-tory: Millions unemployed, real estate prices still falling, skyrock-eting foreclosures, record gold and silver prices, a 10-year bear market on Wall Street, unrest in the Middle East and Europe, and $14 trillion in national debt and still counting. Government is responding by making everything either illegal or

mandatory! What should we do? At the World Economic Sum-mit at FreedomFest, we are hold-ing an emergency meeting on July 14 (Bastille Day!) to address the growing fear of chaos in the world economy and the loss of our wealth and our liberties. The speakers’ list at this special emergency meeting at FreedomFest reads like a Who’s Who of the freedom movement. I’ll be joined by the following top ex-perts: • Judge Andrew Napolitano (Fox News libertarian judge) will hold a private VIP luncheon fol-lowed by a general session on Do We Even Have a Constitution Anymore? It will bring you up to date on the latest assaults on our lib-erties and our rights, and what we can do about them. His remarks will be strictly off the record — no recording allowed. Note: Judge Napolitano’s pri-vate VIP luncheon will sell out quickly — space is strictly limited: If you want to attend, please call Tami Holland at 1-866-266-5101. • Peter Thiel, co-founder of Pay Pal and early investor in Face-book, now a member of the exclu-sive Forbes 400 Richest People in America and a staunch libertarian. His topic: Stalled Technology in America: End of the Future? After his talk, he will sit down with futurist George Gilder to de-bate The Future of Technology. • Steve Forbes on Are We Headed for an American Revolu-tion — or a French Revolution? • John Mackey on Re-Brand-ing Capitalism in the 21st Century and Living Healthy, Wealthy and Wise to 100: The Whole Foods Way. Always standing room only! • All-Star Prediction Panel with Don Luskin, Bert Dohmen, and other experts. Plus Richard Rahn (Cato, Washington Times) and James Gwartney (FSU) on Three Countries Doing it Right: Canada, Chile, and Sweden! “Run, do not walk, to Freedom-Fest! Where else can you meet and mingle with so many fellow travel-ers, and create the social bonds that can change the world?” — Mark Mullins, The Fraser Institute I firmly believe you will think and live better as a result of Freedom-Fest. Thousands have changed their way of acting and thinking — one couple altered their estate and set up a “job-creating” foundation as a result of a session. A consultant landed a major contract with some-one he met at our conference. In-

At the end of the show, he said, “Dad, promise me we’ll come back next year.” And one speaker, Dinesh D’Souza, made the cover of Forbes magazine because Steve Forbes heard him speak at a lun-cheon. Anything is possible. We’ve even had a couple go on their hon-eymoon at FreedomFest! Top news organizations will be there this year: Steve Moore of the Wall Street Journal, Gene Epstein from Barron’s, Jerry Corsi from World Net Daily, Brent Bozell from Media Research, Brian Calle from Orange County Register, Jason Mattera from Human Events, and Woody Jenkins from Liberty Today. Exhibit Hall Extraordinaire:The Trade Show of Liberty

2. FreedomFest offers what John Mackey calls the Trade Show for Liberty. Imagine walking into the FreedomFest exhibit hall and seeing together all the major free-market think tanks and freedom organizations represented. Rea-son, Cato, Heritage, Mises, FEE, Fraser, ISI, IHS, Students for Lib-erty, FreedomWorks, American for Prosperity, Heartland, and top free-market universities such as George Mason University, Hillsdale Col-lege, and Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala. It’s like “one-stop shopping for liberty.” Plus bookstores galore — Liber-ty Fund, ISI Books, Liberty Library, and our own official Laissez Faire Books (offering autograph sessions throughout the conference). Several of these think tanks have their own sessions at FreedomFest, such as the Mises Circle and Rea-son Day. Top speakers from among ex-hibiters include David Boaz and Richard Rahn from Cato, Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch from Reason (on their new book Dec-laration of Independents), Arthur

Brooks from AEI, Tom Palmer from Atlas, Larry Arnn from Hills-dale College, Sally Pipes from Pa-cific Research Institute, Lawrence Reed and Sheldon Richman from FEE, Wayne Allyn Root of the Libertarian Party, Robert Murphy, Douglas French, and Jeff Tucker from the Mises Institute, and Peter Ferrara from IPI. We’re having a special general session on School Choice with America’s No. 1 political consul-tant, Dick Morris, Fox News ana-lyst Juan Williams, Michelle Ber-nard, and Lisa Graham Keegan. The session is sponsored by Nation-

al School Choice Week. Not to be missed! “Without a doubt, FreedomFest was the most diverse and stimulat-ing conference we ever attended. We talked about it for many months afterwards. What a remarkable venue, where vigorous discourse, respect without capitulation invited all of us into a dialogue outside of our comfort zones, confirmed deep convictions, and ultimately contin-ue to ferment in our souls long af-ter the event had passed. Thank you again for the courage and vision to launch this event!” — Gabriela Stevens

3. All Star Investment Confer-ence. Join in as our top financial experts discuss how to survive and prosper during economic and geo-political turmoil at a time when markets boom and bust. Hear the latest updates on stocks, bonds, commodities, and gold and silver, and tax and estate planning. Jeff Verdon’s session For Women Only is always SRO. And so is Escape from America — In-vesting, Saving Taxes, and Living Abroad with specific talks on Mex-ico as a retirement haven and Swit-zerland as a privacy destination. NEW ORLEANS — The major na-tional media and more than 2,000 delegates packed the Republican Leadership Conference in New Or-leans June 16-18 for the kickoff of the 2012 Republican Presidential nominating process. Eight Presidential candidates and a host of governors, Congress-men, and candidates were on hand to address the crowd. The biggest ovations at the event were reserved for three of the crowd’s favorites — Reps. Mi-chele Bachmann and Ron Paul and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas. Bach-mann and Paul are announced can-didates, while Perry is considering whether to make the race. Bachmann arrived in New Or-leans with a lot of momentum, hav-ing done well in the New Hamp-shire Republican debate earlier in the week. Liberty Today filed live news updates on Facebook throughout the three-day conference. Here are some of this reporter’s notes filed during the conference:

Rep. Michele BachmannCandidate for PresidentIndependents, Republicans,Tea Party Members, DefenseAdvocates, and LibertariansWill Make Barack Obama A One-Term President Congresswoman Michele Bach-mann received a rousing ovation and was repeatedly interrupted by applause in her speech to the Re-publican Leadership Conference in New Orleans Friday afternoon. Bachmann said Americans will rally together to win a victory in 2012. Independents, Republicans, Tea Party supporters, libertarians, and defense advocates will pull to-gether to make sure Barack Obama is a one-term President. She said, “The campaign will be all about jobs and the economy.” In

the Reagan recovery, hundreds of thousands of jobs were created in a few months. But Obama’s econ-omy is in the ditch, she said. “America gives us a chance, an opportunity. I drove a bus. My hus-band and I did whatever we had to to pay the bills. But Obama is kill-ing opportunities,” she said. The high cost of fuel is one of the things undermining our economy, she said. When Obama was elect-ed, the national debt was $35,000 a person. Today, it’s $43,000 a per-son. “We have to tell the American people the truth!” “I fought against Obamacare.” “The President has no plan. His

dollar we spend is owed in debt,” she said. “If I’m president, we’ll never have to vote to raise the na-tional debt again.” “We’ll end the funding of Planned Parenthood and NPR, for starters.” “We know what works. It’s tight spending and fiscal re-sponsibility.” “We’re not going to allow the Federal Reserve to print money. Are you better off to-day than two years ago?” “Is this Obama growth? No, this is like the grand canyon.” ‘The status quo isn’t working with 10 percent unemployment. And it isn’t working for the His-panic community or African-Americans, because their unem-ployment is even higher.” “Earlier today, Russian presi-dent Medvedev said the Russian economy should be dominated by private companies. Why can’t our President say that?” “One of the worst agencies is the EPA. Their regulations would propose to tell you everything you are supposed to do — even what light bulbs you use. I can tell you, President Bachmann will al-low you to use any light bulb you want!” There was laughter. “As dire as this President has made our economy, I am even more concerned about the state of our military readiness.” “As a member of the House In-telligence Committee, I am con-cerned every day by the threats that exist to our nation. I pledge to keep our nation safe, free, and sov-ereign. I will lead from the front. America is the hope for the world. Every day, terrorists threaten our country. I will win the war on ter-ror. You do not win the war on ter-ror by reading Miranda rights to terrorist suspects. The real threat in the Middle East is a nuclear device in the hands of Iran. I will tell you today, ‘I stand for Israel!’” “It is our Creator who endowed us with inalienable rights to life. It was God who gave us these rights, and only God can take it away. The Declaration tells us that’s why government was instituted. And I stand for life!” “We need a consti-tutional conservative.” “At the debate on Monday, the American people learned the name Michele Bachmann, mother of five

Cain said he has a dream of restor-ing America, electing a conserva-tive Congress, and winning the presidency. Gov. Haley BarbourGovernor of MississippiThe Future of AmericaWill Be at Stake in 2012 At the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans Friday afternoon, Gov. Haley Barbour told delegates that everywhere he goes, Americans tell him that the 2012 election for President is one we must not lose. “Everything we hold dear is at stake,” Barbour said. “Whether in Louisiana or anywhere else, Obama’s policies have been bad for us. How can we be surprised that the economy is in trouble when the President campaigned on the highest tax increase in history on the backs of American business. How could we expect to have job growth in that environment?” The governor said the Left wants big tax increases and higher spend-ing. “They think it’s good for the economy. The big banks may be making money, but on Main Street they’re not making money. Spend-ing is hurting our economy. The Obama administration has unlimit-ed faith in unlimited government.” “The Obama energy policy has hurt the economy and hurt American business. His policy is to drive up the cost of energy, so there will be less of it. Then there would be less pollution, less global warming. He said he wants energy prices to skyrocket. It looks to me that Obama’s policy of driving up the price of energy is the only one that’s working. We see the results on the American economy, because everything in our economy runs on energy.” Barbour hit Obamacare. “It’s costing jobs. Business isn’t hiring. One reason is the cost of health insurance on each new employee hired. This is not what people were talking about when it came to re-forming health care. If we let the American people choose between the failed Obama policies and our free market, conservative alterna-tive, we will be victorious.” Barbour said Republicans should unite in 2012. “We won’t have the perfect candidate, but our candidate will be infinitely better than the current administration.” He said Obama is praying the Tea Party will become a 3rd party, be-cause then he can’t lose.

Dave BossieCitizens UnitedObama Plans to Raise$1 Billion for 2012 Election Dave Bossie, former chief in-vestigator of Congress and the president of Citizens United, said Obama plans to raise $1 billion for his reelection campaign. Despite a poor record as Presi-dent, Obama will use his fundrais-ing advantage to “sell” his program to the American people. Obama has reportedly established a Super-Pac to put the money together.

Herman CainCandidate for PresidentCain Said He Didn’t Get theMemo That He Was NotSupposed to Run for President Presidential candidate Herman Cain told Republican leaders Fri-day that — from an aerodynam-ic standpoint — the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly. “But the bumblebee didn’t get the memo!” he said, to the laugh-ter of the audience. At the end of the day, there is a sense of urgency for us to take this nation back!”Ted CruzU. S. Senate Candidate, TexasConservatives Should Stand for Principles Ted Cruz, former solicitor gen-eral of the State of Texas and a can-didate for the U. S. Senate, told the Republican Leadership Confer-ence in New Orleans that America is in the fix it’s in because it hasn’t stood for principles. He recounted his fight for con-stitutional principles during his 10 years’ service as Solicitor General. One of the most important was Texas’ successful battle to prevent the World Court from reopening state murder convictions. That vic-tory came on a 6-3 vote of the U.S. Supreme Court. Second, he said, America must stand up for liberty. Liberty isn’t given by government but by God. The Tea Party is about standing up for the Constitution, he said. Cruz pointed out that Texas has created more jobs than any other state — all because of keeping the size and cost of government small in the State of Texas. Cruz said there is nothing he be-lieves in more than American ex-ceptionalism. Cruz said his father was from Cuba and fought along-side Castro, until he realized Cas-tro was a communist. Cruz’ dad was imprisoned in Castro’s pris-ons, where he was beaten and mis-treated. After his release, he was able to come to the United States and Texas. His father told him, “If we lose our freedom here, where will we go?” Cruz said the only way to pre-serve freedom is to stand up and fight for it. Cruz said we can turn around America, repeal Obam-acare, balance our budget, and retire President Obama. He said every American must decide how to go into battle in 2012. The issue will be which candidate can do the best job of protecting our liberty, whether for President or the United States Senate. Cruz received a loud ovation. Speaker Newt GingrichCandidate for PresidentThere Is No Federal Guarantee of Happiness A federal court ruling that a school valedictorian could not even mention the word “prayer” in her address to the student body has Newt Gingrich upset, and he wants to limit the power of the federal ju-diciary. verse President Obama’s policy of U.S. taxpayer funding abortion around the world. Gingrich said he was glad the Democratic National Chairwoman admitted Obama “owns the econ-omy.” Obama’s remark that his shovel-ready projects weren’t very shovel-ready was an insult to the many Americans who are unem-ployed, he said Gingrich said he will repeal Obamacare and oppose programs that put Americans in a position of servitude to their government. He said he wants every American to have a place at the table and a place in the Republican Party. Gingrich emphasized that our rights come from God, not gov-ernment. He said Americans have the right to pursue happiness. But we are not guaranteed happiness. “There is no federal right to happi-ness, no federal department of hap-piness,” he said. He said our founders believed we would remain free if we were wise. “What kind of Americans are we?” he asked. Obama wants to borrow to give to Brazilians, he said. That will change under his Presidency. At present, America is in debt to the Chinese but gives money to Brazil. Gingrich said he wants to cut federal spending and federal taxes. He wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent and abolish the capital gains tax and the death tax. He wants to audit the Federal Reserve and find out what it is really doing. “We should tell the Federal Reserve that your job is to protect the value of the dollar, not manipulate the economy,” he said. He said we need an “American”

energy policy. “The Obama ad-ministration has an anti-American policy,” he said. He stressed ener-gy independence and the merits of natural gas. “We are at the beginning of a new century. Why would we think we are limited in what we can accomplish?” “With your help, we’re going to run the most posi-tive campaign, explaining why we should be proud to be Americans and not follow some European model. We’re going to sweep the Congress and the Senate and take the White House.”Gov. Mike HuckabeeFormer Governor of ArkansasThis is the Best of Times and the Worst of Times At the opening session of the Re-publican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee recalled the experiences of Katrina and equat-ed them to the current time. “That was the worst of times and the best of times,” he said. But despite worries over the econ-

omy and the Obama administra-tion, there is great opportunity for America. He said major reforms are possible, just as welfare reform made a fundamental change in America in the 1990’s. He decried federal bailouts and other attempts by the federal government to pick winners and losers. Huckabee joked that Republi-cans can’t talk about missing birth certificates. But, turning serious, he said there are 53 million miss-ing birth certificates — one for each of the children killed by abor-tion since 1973. “God gave us life, and we cannot walk away from that issue. Every human being has worth and value,” he said. “Today we Republicans have the opportunity to take the total message to the people.” On the economy, Huckabee said, “We have a President who doesn’t un-derstand the fundamentals of the economy.” He said the only place where the economy is growing is Washington, DC. “But what we’re growing there is the wrong stuff!” He said, “We don’t have a health

care crisis in America. We have the best health care in the world. What we do have is a health crisis, which is a result of chronic disease.” “It is the cost of these diseases that is eating us alive.” “If this country sets its mind to it, we can find the cures that will reduce the cost of medical care.” Huckabee said Republicans must communicate with the people in such a way that they will be un-derstood and received by the aver-age person. People with a political perspective see things as left and right, but a small portion of the public see things differently and they will decide most elections. They see things more as who will make things go up or down. Speaking of independent vot-ers, he said, “We have to appeal to those citizens. We need to make sure every American understands what we stand for.”Gov. Bobby JindalLouisianaTime Is Running Out forAmerica Gov. Bobby Jindal told the Republican Leadership Confer-ence that time is running short for America. essential. President Bush was sub-jected to shrill and nasty attacks. We must not resort to that. What President Obama thinks is best for America is wrong. “I don’t question where he’s from, but I do question where he’s going. He ran one of the best campaigns we’ve ever seen. But any doubts have been erased. He is easily the most liberal President in history.” The choice is clear, he said, and we must not go down the road that he is taking us. Marco Rubio said it well: We should not be implement-ing policies of countries whose citizens have fled in order to come to this nation. Government should make it eas-ier for the private sector to create jobs. The President has grown our debt from $9 to $14 trillion. Yet, despite his failures, he is asking for four more years. But we will not choose to go down the road of Eu-ropean socialism. The President said if we don’t raise the debt, we will have a na-tional crisis. We have a national crisis already. His solution to our national debt is to raise it higher. “What should we do about the national debt? For one thing, stop the spending. If your teenager puts $6,000 on your credit card, you don’t solve the problem by giving him another credit card! We must control spending. We need a Bal-anced Budget Amendment.” Gabe JosephccAdvertisingThe Message Is, ObamaHas Made Things Worse Gabe Joseph of ccAdvertising told the Republican Leadership

He said the key message is that Obama “has made things worse.” Joseph said conservatives can have a major advantage in technology in the 2012 elections. The key will be using technol-ogy to identify conservative vot-ers and encouraging them to get to polls on election day. Thaddeus McCotterCongressmanAmerica Must Stand For Liberty At the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans Thurs-day afternoon, Congressman Thad-deus McCotter told the delegates, “Our liberty is from God, not man.

Our prosperity is from the private sector, not the public sector. Our truths are self-evident. How do we apply them today?” “In Washington, the era of Big Government is not over, but it is imploding. And changes will be made. We have seen democratiza-tion of the economy. Yet, out of Washington, we see the same tired solutions.” “You cannot put our economy under the crushing ruins of the welfare state. In the age of global-ization, we cannot survive under isolationism. In the Middle East, in the fight against terrorism, we must always stand with our ally, Israel. The goal is not only security but also peace” “To prevent a nuclear-armed Iran, we must support democratic movements in the Middle East, es-

pecially the Green Revolution in Iran. It will fall from its people’s own aspirations for freedom.” “It is not only the Middle East that threatens us. Also Castro, Chavez, and other dictators. We believe liberty is the foundation for prosperity. We must end the un-conditional appeasement of Com-munist China. For those who say Communist China is the future, I refute that as we did when Khrush-chev said ‘We will bury you!’” “We must hold to family values, for that is the basis of security and freedom. The big government, one-size-fits-all philosophy must never be allowed to take hold. We must unleash the new technology to support the future of our country.”Rep. Ron PaulCandidate for PresidentFund Military InterventionsAround the World Congressman Ron Paul spoke passionately against big govern-ment — from the attack on privacy by the TSA to military action in Libya. His supporters packed the Grand Ballroom at the Riverside Hilton, and he was repeatedly in-terrupted by applause. He spoke against military in-tervention around the world. Paul said Bin Laden had vowed to draw America into an endless war and drain its power and wealth. “All great powers collapse from end-less wars. We didn’t have to defeat the Soviet Union. They destroyed themselves,” he said. “Our country has driven so many nations away from us.” “Here at home, we are losing our liberties. Even the U.N. is coming down on

Republican Leadership Confer-ence in New Orleans June 18. Brown’s surprise appearence was well-received by the audience of die-hard Republicans. Brown did not disappoint — every word and mannerism portrayed a chara-cature of the President that was wholly believable. It was light-hearted and wildly funny. But when he got into mak-ing fun of the GOP candidates for President, event organizers pulled

him from the stage. A spokesman said the actor had made racially-offensive remarks. In an interview before speaking, Brown said he is a TV broadcaster from Chicago who has a white par-ent and a black parent. When asked how much of the character he plays is himself, he said, “None.” He said he fought the idea of impersonating Obama for years, but everyone kept tell-ing him how much he looked like

The FDA is now persecut-ing people for bringing raw milk across state lines, he said. “Where does it end?” Paul called once again for an audit of the Federal Reserve. “In fact, we should abolish the Federal Reserve,” he said. Paul made the case against high taxes, including

the corporate income tax. Corpo-rations don’t pay taxes, people do, Paul said. He said he would repeal Roe v. Wade and protect the right to life. In closing, Paul said a free society is about people making personal choices for themselves. The alter-native is government making the decision, and government usually makes a very bad choice, he said. In a free society, responsibility is

on the shoulders of the individual. Americans must value liberty, or they will lose it, he said. Gov. Rick PerryState of TexasWhat Will Be the LegacyOf This Generation? At the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas said we must revive the American dream.

we can iden-tify who can best help do it. Perhaps as im-portant as any time since our founding, those who believe in divine provi-dence and eter-nal principles must become well-informed and actively in-

volved in the political process. Christians, pastors, and all church leaders must totally reject the lie that “separation of church and state” means people of faith must remain silent, uninformed, and uninvolved. Those who rec-ognize truth and stand for it can turn the tide. Our nation’s founders knew that the limits of the Consti-tution were placed on the govern-ment, not the people or religion. The right to stand up and support first principles is both a privilege and a responsibility. True freedom grants citizens the right to choose, and we have a responsibility to choose right. The Bible declares, “Righteousness exalts the nation.” The psalmist affirms, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice”

called some recent history in his speech Friday afternoon to the Re-publican Leadership Conference in New Orleans. “Just a year ago, our goal was very simple: Remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House and take away that big air-plane she flew around in. I’m here to tell you, the American people did just that! Now we know what we need to do in 2012!” On Obamacare, Scalise de-plored the waivers issued by the Obama administration to his po-litical friends and supporters. “The only fair way to waive Obamacare is to repeal it for all Americans!” he said to cheers and applause. “As we remember the 100th birthday of President Ronald Reagan, we must take our country back!”

tected the sanctity of life. We have to be responsible for ourselves.” On the right to life, Gov. Perry said, “Why are some people want-ing to endanger our most helpless citizens? I object to separating the people who are interested in the social issues from those interested in the economic issues. Our party cannot be all things to all people. We need to redouble our efforts to elect conservative Republicans.” “We have done too much apolo-gizing. There are people who seek office for power and those who run to protect the people. The politi-cians in Washington will never willingly give up an ounce of

power, unless we make them. This endless overreach by the federal government led me to write a book dedicated to the 10th Amendment. The framers of our Constitution knew the importance of the separa-tion of powers. They knew the best leadership is closest to the people. Our goal is to displace the en-trenched power in Washington and restore the balance in our country.” “We must get America moving in the right direction. Many people voted for hope and change but in-stead got economic disaster.” “November 2012 is not very far away. America’s greatness is not found in the size of its government but in the hearts and minds of its

people. If we want to stimulate jobs, we need to return to the great principles that work.” “In 2014, that runaway train of Obamacare hits our country.” “Together, we must get America moving back to its greatness. Millions are trapped in economic misery. Let’s turn our country back to economic excep-tionalism. There is no better time than right now to turn this country around.” Perry received large and enthusiastic ovation both upon his arrival and departure.Rep. New York Senate Action on Gay Marriage NEW YORK C ITY — People at the Empire State Building said it was a coincidence. Officials explained that it takes hours to change the lights. But there was no mistaking the message Friday night when the highest point in the city lit up like a towering rainbow, its colors blazing across the New York skyline. Like a warning flare, the reds and blues and greens exploded over the city, announcing the arrival of same-sex “marriage” to the world. Overnight, New York had become a beacon in the fight for family — a symbol of people who had lost their way! When the law goes into effect next month, New York will be the sixth and largest state to shatter the definition of marriage in America. With one vote, New York forced more Americans to bow to its twist-ed definition of marriage than the combined population of Massachu-setts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Iowa, and the District of Columbia. And none of it would have been possible without the po-litical cowardice of New York Re-publicans. The same party who beat back this attack in 2009 not only gave up on marriage in the majority, but actively worked to redefine it two years later. The decision by four Republicans to join 29 Democrats in passing the measure marked the first time in history that a legislative body controlled by the GOP ap-proved either same-sex “marriage” or civil unions. “If a gay marriage bill passes,” state Senators Ruben Diaz and Mi-chael Long had warned, “It will be because the GOP caved for no dis-cernible good reason at all, and Re-publicans across the state will pay the price.” In the weeks ahead, our country will learn how deep the co-ercion runs. This illusion of Republican sup-port for same-sex “marriage” all boils down to two things: mon-ey and intimidation. Behind the scenes, liberals found a way to un-dercut the Republican platform on marriage, and there is no question that those “incentives” (some of them taxpayer-funded) will be ex-posed. In exchange for their votes, sena-tors have been promised billionaire backing in the next election. Un-fortunately for them, no amount of campaign financing can protect Re-publicans from the voters —many of whom will be waiting to unleash their fury on the GOP after this col-lapse. After all, part of the reason that New York’s Senate flipped to Republican control was because of the Democrats’ push for same-sex “marriage.” In fact, three of the four Republicans who put this bill over the edge had openly campaigned against it. If donors can’t get their money back, then they should fight to get their seats back. And FRC Action PAC will help. I think we can all agree that the issue of mar-riage should be decided by people whose influence can’t be bought. Edmund Burke famously ob-served that evil triumphs when good men do nothing. But if there’s anything worse than good men do-ing nothing, it’s good men saying nothing. On Capitol Hill and in dis-tricts across America, the Repub-lican Party seems to have lost its

voice. Only Michele Bachmann has been bold enough to speak out on behalf of the millions of New York-ers who still believe in marriage. Talking to Fox News Sunday, the Minnesota Congresswoman said that if she were elected President, she would back an amendment to define marriage as “between a man and a woman.” She was clear that the issue should be “up to the peo-ple of New York” and put on the ballot for a vote. While others in the presidential pool may be scared silent, Michele, alongside former Senator Rick Santorum, refuses to be intimidated. This weekend, Catholic Bishop Nicholas Dimarzio drew a new line in sand. “In light of these disturbing developments...” he said, “I have asked all Catholic schools to refuse any distinction or honors bestowed upon them this year by the governor or any member of the legislature

The governor and state legislature have demonized people of faith, whether they be Muslims, Jews, or Christians, and identified them as bigots and prejudiced, and voted in favor of same-sex ‘mar-riage.’” “We just as strongly affirm that marriage is the joining of one man and one woman in a lifelong, loving union... This definition can-not change.” Despite all of the disappointment, God is on the move. Regardless of how things appear, never doubt that He is at work behind the scenes. Rainbow colors may cut through the New York night, but shadows are where you and I are called to shine. The world takes advantage of the darkness, but only the church can set it ablaze. “Arise... for your light has come... See, darkness cov-ers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.” (Isaiah 60:1-3) Editor’s Note: 29 Republicans vot-ed against the gay marriage bill. Only four voted for it.

Highlights of an On-Line Survey

will stand up to the nation’s en-emies, take out terrorists, and face down political opponents in Con-gress. It’s about having the cour-age of your convictions and taking a firm position on the things that are really important. 3. Patriotism and Love of Country. Conservatives want a President who is patriotic, who loves America, who is proud of our heritage, our history, and our system of government. They want someone who will speak up for our country anywhere in the world and not apologize for America. 4. Support for the Constitu-tion. Conservatives see the Consti-tution as under attack and in danger of being usurped. They want a Pres-ident who will respect the Constitu-tion and uphold it. Of particular in-terest today is the 10th amendment. Conservatives want a President who understands the role of the states in our federal system. 5. Respect for Individual Rights. As government has gotten bigger and more powerful, conser-vatives have come to see their indi-vidual liberties as under attack, in-cluding the right to speak freely or express their religious views pub-licy, own a firearm, or even get on an airplane. The overreaching arm of the federal government seems to be everywhere, and conservatives want a President who will stop the erosion of individual liberties and put restraints on the federal govern-ment. 6. Traditional Values. Conser-vatives see the family and their tra-ditional way of life as endangered, even things as seemingly straight-forward as the right of people to pray in public, the right of babies to be born, and the fact that a marriage is between a man and a woman. Conservatives will demand that a President stand squarely for tradi-tional family values. That includes public prayer, the right to life, and traditional marriage. 7. Protection of American Sovereignty and an End to Illegal

Continued from Page 1

Immigration. The flood of illegal aliens into the country is of deep concern to most conservatives. The media asks the rhetorical question, Well, what are you going to do, de-port them all? Conservatives gener-ally say, yes, as many as you can as fast as you can! They will demand a President who will seal the border and start sending illegals back home. Similarly, conservatives want a President who will respect the sov-ereignty of the country and refuse to turn over America’s military, our resources, or our law to internation-al organizations or other countries. 8. A Strong National Defense. Conservatives support adequate spending for defense, advanced weapons systems, and higher pay for the military. They are patriotic and are willing to bear a heavy bur-den to defend the country. They ex-pect our nation to stand up against our foreign enemies and stop them before they threaten us. This ap-plies to the danger from terrorists and from terrorist states such as Iran, Syria, and North Korea. At

the same time, conservatives ques-tion overextending our military, and they oppose military operations where they do not see our national interests at stake. Ultimately, con-servatives will look for a candidate they feel they can trust to keep our nation strong, while having the judgment to know when to commit U.S. military forces or strike a blow against terrorists or terrorist states. 9. Fiscal Responsibility. Con-servatives are opposed to deficit spending and continued increases in the national debt. They want a President who will limit spending, balance the federal budget, and put a lid on the debt. In order to satisfy conservatives, a President must be willing to confront the reality of our fiscal crisis and make hard choices to cut, despite the enormous pres-sure that will come from the media, labor unions, and countless special interest groups. Conservatives be-lieve that our nation is doomed un-less we stop the reckless spending. 10. Tax Limitation. Conserva-tives believe the country is over-taxed and that small business is particularly overtaxed. They want a President who will oppose addi-tional taxes and try to reduce taxes in every responsible way. Most conservatives favor fundamental reforms in the tax system. 11. Free Enterprise. Conserva-tives believe in the free market and want to limit government involve-ment in the economy. They are op-posed to overregulation by the fed-eral government with its alphabet soup of regulatory agencies. They want to keep most regulation at the state and local levels. They op-pose mandates such as Obamacare and the endless flow of edicts from the EPA, the FDA, and the others. A fervent commitment to repeal Obamacare is a necessity for any candidate who hopes to reach con-servatives. 12. Fair Trade. For the past generation, most conservatives sup-ported the nation’s free trade poli-cies. Today that has changed, es-pecially with respect to Communist

China. The lack of import duties on state-owned Chinese companies, often the property of the Peoples Army, has led to the destruction of America’s manufacturing base and the export of millions of jobs. At least that’s how most conservatives see things now. The argument that Americans enjoy a lower cost of living because of Chinese imports only worked as long as Americans had jobs. Today conservatives want a President who will end the one-sided “free trade” arrangement with Communist China.

HHH During the days of President Ronald Reagan, conservatives spoke of the three-legged stool that composed the conservative move-ments — social conservatives, eco-nomic conservatives, and defense conservatives. Today Gov. Rick Perry speaks in opposition to any idea that there would be a divide between social and economic conservatives. Rep. Michele Bachmann speaks of bringing together a coalition of social conservatives, economic con-servatives, defense conservatives, Tea Party members, and libertarians — perhaps the first-ever embrace of libertarians by a conservative can-didate for President. The truth is that few voters fall neatly into those subcategories. Most people who call themselves “conservatives” are conservative on a broad range of issues. A greater reality in the Republi-can primaries across the country is the explosion of social conserva-tives, mainly Christian activists, es-pecially female, who have aligned themselves with the Republican Party. The activist workers who walk door to door for Republicans are more often than not the pro-lif-ers, homeschoolers, and Tea Party members. The country club Republican Par-ty is a thing of past, and the coming nominating process could well pro-duce a nominee who is solid on all 12 of the essentials conservatives expect in a candidate for President.

Nation from the various ‘ism’s’, from anarchism to the global one worlders, only when they do, will Freedom and Liberty start to resur-face. Americans have had enough. Enough from the Left, and enough from the Right acting like the Left. The members of the Tea Party movement refuse to stand in the middle. The traditional politics of the Estab-lishment have steered us onto a dark and rocky path with top-down manage-ment. As the grassroots has mobilized from bottom-up, we will push forward to take America back in 2012! A few good candidates promoted by the Tea Parties have emerged to take the lead in an already-heated race for the White House, and a few more who qualify still have yet to decide. Each of these true conservatives possesses per-sonal strengths which we will need to see in our next President. Tea Party Stands for Principle The Tea Party movement is not about just voting out the Democrats. There are larger evils to conquer. Our movement has every intention to swing the pendulum back in order to achieve our mission — a second American Rev-olution. Obviously, a peaceful revolu-tion that puts us back on the path of our Founders. We hold the far Left in contempt for purposely exploiting the American core values that our founding fathers intended for us as a sovereign nation. The far Left does not include just Bar-rack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, although they have been central to the duplicitous acts against the peo-ple. There are efforts on a global scale that must be dealt with. We begin with the three core values of the Tea Party Movement which our next President and Vice President must work to accomplish: 1. Fiscal Responsibility. It must be in their blood to cap the debt and drive it down, while working with Congress to bring excessive spending and taxation under control. They must also pledge to avoid corporate welfare and supply a balanced, transparent, and accountable budget. 2. Constitutionally Limited Gov-ernment. Our President and Vice Pres-ident must be leaders in restoring the Constitution and limited government. That includes reversing government’s use of regulation which has encroached upon the powers of our state and local

governments. Within the rule of law, they must also protect the liberties of individuals. 3. Free Markets. The President will be expected to protect the fundamentals of the free market. This includes limit-ing government’s role in the private sec-tor in order to instill personal responsi-bility and make accessible the pursuit of economic liberty for all Americans. Who will be our next ‘Ronald Rea-gan? In addition to our core values, the Tea Party expects a conservative ticket to take the lead in restoring America — economically, socially, militarily, and spiritually. It must lead us back onto the path from which we have strayed. In the search for a conservative ticket, The Tea Party wants Reagan to be the benchmark in weighing the at-tributes of an All-American president. Reagan is the model as far as most Tea Parties are concerned. But we need to take it to a whole new level. Is Their Record Consistent with Our Mission? No longer does the “R” after the name of a candidate indicate where the candidate stands. The Tea Party demands a proven conservative voting record and/or a history of achievement to fully believe they support the mission of the Tea Party. In order to restore America’s great-ness, the 2012 ticket should don a team of unwavering, unapologetic, and reso-lute candidates that will hold America’s sovereignty and liberties in the highest regard while protecting and promoting the Constitution of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. The boldness of the next two Presidents must exceed any Socialist, Communist, Marxist, or Is-lamic ideology and work to keep those influences out of our financial systems, education systems, media, and judicial systems, as well as all levels of govern-ment. America was established to set itself apart from those types of oppres-sive powers and to carefully expand freedom to all of those wanting it and willing to pursue it as a human right. Self-Reliance, Courage, and Action One cannot neglect a flower garden and then expect it to stay healthy. It will grow wild. The responsibility of maintenance, which includes weeding, watering, fertilizing, and pest control, must be done in order to produce suc-cessful results. This will mean taking a full inventory and all-out spring clean-ing of each level of government as well as the amendments to our Constitution. In other words, our President and Vice President must both be willing to do what it takes to become the botanists our country needs for the total patriot landscaping package. Gov. Sarah Palin. Some believe that Gov. Palin would be good in this

regard, as she is known to have cleaned out much of the corruption upon enter-ing office in her state of Alaska. She promotes American self-reliance as she has demonstrated knowledge of the oil industry and encourages America to “drill, baby, drill!” Although not an offi-cial candidate, she is being encouraged by many in the Tea Party because of

respect, and integrity. The Commander in Chief will need to lead from the front and be willing to stand for our soldiers as he or she recognizes the sacrifices they and their families are making to protect our country. Lt. Col. Allen West has been urged to run for President, and he has estab-lished himself as a knowledgeable lead-er who has gained the honor and respect of Tea Party members. So far, West is the one in the spotlight who has shown a zero-tolerance defense policy for our military forces in combating terrorism. Many more can be mentioned, but the point is we do not lack examples of boldness for the type of President we need to restore our country. We want the next leader of the free world to feel the angst and frustration we feel at the grassroots, and feel compelled to act upon what his heart tells him must be accomplished, regardless of opposition.Patriots Demand Trailblazers The Tea Party demands a President and Vice President who are trailblazers, not afraid to try new ideas and be in-novative in solving specific domestic is-sues we are desperately facing, such as our economy, immigration, healthcare, and so forth. Rhetoric is no longer ac-ceptable. Operation Backbone Terrorism brings us to the issue of il-legal immigration. Arizona passed their SB 1070 in an attempt to enforce fed-eral law in order to protect themselves from the criminals in our country il-legally. The ideal president supported by the Tea Parties will not only encour-age such legislation, but help protect all Americans by working to secure our borders instead of suing the states to protect the illegal aliens. Operation Wetback in the 1950’s ordered mass de-portations of illegal aliens during times when there were a lack of jobs. Presi-dents Truman and Eisenhower were looking out for Americans and not sell-ing them out for political gain. Again: Boldness, integrity, unapologetic. Patriots to Put Principle First As Chief Executive, Chief of State, and Chief Diplomat, any of these conser-vatives would symbolize what America stands for as a nation. Holding stead-fast to Christian principles, they would honestly represent most of us among the Tea Party. Such a leader would re-spect our allies and recognize the im-portance of Israel. Such a President would be able to negotiate effectively in the context of a solid foreign policy and be an inspiration around the world. The President must be trustworthy, making relevant and substantial deci-sions by appointing the most qualified advisors for the President’s Cabinet. Most importantly, he would appoint members of the Supreme Court who uphold the Constitution and interpret, rather than invent, the law. The Presi-dent and Vice President must be Ameri-cans by birth and qualified. They must hold fundamental Christian values as our founders intended. Reagan said himself, “If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” Eating an Elephant It is time to find the “Ronald Rea-gan” that will unite instead of divide, respect the states and their rights, and boost the morale of the country and those who work to sustain it. We will see the day that America will climb out of the hole we are in, but it will require the Tea Party movement to show how conservatism works and how to get it accomplished. You know the saying about how to eat an elephant: One bite at a time. It will require educa-tion and dedication from each generation to accomplish the task, and everyone involved will need to step up to make sure that no one forgets the day when we came close to losing our country.

her resilient con-servative stance on issues despite the fierce animos-ity from the main-stream media and Leftist organiza-tions. She is also a solid proponent of 2nd Amendment rights. Gov. Chris Christi is also an encouraged fa-vorite as he has demonstrated a no-nonsense style and a talent for tak-ing on the unions in New Jersey in a bold manner never done before. He is an audacious hero in taking on the me-dia, as well as challengers who question his willingness to get his state out of an abyss of economic troubles. Rep. Michelle Bachmann is a self-motivated leader who gets things done. She created the Tea Party Caucus in the House and continues to protect the Constitution with her unswerving vot-ing record and unapologetic support of conservative and Christian values. Sen. Jim DeMint has earned the la-bels “Tea Party Senator,” and “Conser-vative of the Year” by Erick Erickson of RedState.com, as he has proven to be a fierce defender of freedom and consti-tutional values. As of now, he will not run, but is reconsidering. Many Tea Party supporters favor candidate Herman Cain because he has never served in public office. It is not in his blood to dish out the same ol’ political song and dance in addressing the issues. As a well-known business leader, mathematician, and talk show host, he, like Palin, would be able to create an American self-reliance by abolishing the IRS. He is even forward thinking enough to want to eliminate all federal income-based taxes for Ameri-cans and their businesses by replacing it with a revenue neutral strategy. He has kept his support base within the Tea Party movement and has moved into the spotlight rapidly with his “Common Sense Solutions” campaign that will seek fiscal responsibility and promote the free markets. What is a Patriot’s Military Might? The job description of the President of the United States includes the title of Commander In Chief. Deploying our troops and managing our defense forces requires strategic skills, wisdom,

The Pros and Cons of Privatization

Most conservatives and libertarians have an idealised vision of privatization (i.e., DisneyWorld), but there defi-nitely are cons. Privatization must

not be used to give contracts to the politicans’ favorites and exempt those administering government from requirements of access to public records or open meetings. Caucus LeadersUnveil Plan for$2.5 Trillion Cut

May I OfferA Few SmallSuggestions? America celebrated the 100th birthday of the late President Ron-ald Reagan on Feb. 6, 2011. His speeches are filled with advice for future generations, especially on spending and debt. Here are a few of the famous quotes that are as timely today as when he said them:On the deficit: We don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough. We have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much. Governments don’t reduce defi-cits by raising taxes on the people. Governments reduce deficits by controlling spending and stimulat-ing new wealth. Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets. Every dollar the Federal Gov-

WASHINGTON — House Republi-cans, led by Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Can-tor, are making fiscal restraint the Number 1 priority for the House. Boehner, Cantor, Congressman Jeb Hensarling, and other mem-bers of the leadership team are get-ting high marks for having passed through the House legislation to repeal Obamacare in their second week on the job. Congressman Paul Ryan, chair-man of the House Budget Com-mittee, has been a chief architect of Republican efforts to reduce the federal budget deficit and halt in-

creases in the national debt. He was tapped by GOP congres-sional leaders to give the response to President Obama’s State of the

Tea Party: ‘Ordinary Folks’Arrive in Halls of Congress WASHINGTON — The Tea Party Caucus in the House, led by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), hopes to change the tone in Con-gress by emphasizing the principles of the U.S. Constitution. The Cau-cus held a seminar on the Constitu-tion with Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia as the main speaker. One new Congressman was in awe. He said, “Most of us are

WASHINGTON — Federal District Judge Roger Vinson of Florida has declared President Obama’s health care legislation unconstitu-tional, siding with the arguments of 26 states who questioned the mandate that individual citizens purchase health insurance. At the same time, the Senate has begun a series of votes to repeal Obamacare, just as the House has done. Republican lawmakers feel they can succeed in getting repeal on the President’s desk or making it a major 2012 election issue.

BATON ROUGE — Woody Jen-kins, the editor of Liberty Today, has a passion — to try to save our country using the truth. A life-long journalist and long-time member of the Louisiana Legislature, Jenkins has battled for lower taxes, less government, and individual rights since he was a high school student, beginning with the Goldwater campaign. “I’ve never seen more forces arrayed against our country — ei-ther here at home or abroad. Like so many Americans, I am deeply concerned about the future of our country and even whether we will have a country,” he said. “I’ve been reading Seven Tip-ping Points That Saved the World by Chris Stewart and Ted Stewart. It’s an amazing book about the great military battles that made it possible for Western civilization to exist —such as the defeat of Genghis Khan before he destroyed Europe and defeating the Muslims at Poitiers before they were able to conquer France.” “Apparently, more than 100 billion people have livied on this planet, but only about 5 billion of those have lived in any semblance of freedom. Of those, 3 billion are alive today.” “We take for granted the free-dom we enjoy in America today, but we shouldn’t because that free-dom is very fragile. The world we live in is very dangerous. We could be at a tipping point, and it could tip against us. I see America in free fall. We basically have one shot: Defeat Obama in 2012 and completely turn around the direc-tion of things, or there may be no turning this country around.” “We’ve been in the local TV or newspaper business for 48 years, but I really felt there was a tremen-dous need for a national conserva-tive newspaper — a pro-freedom newspaper. Our goal is to build our distribution to 100,000 or more by the end of the year. By 2012, we want to be able to deliver the conservative message to every major conservative donor, every Congressman and Senator, every state elected official, every lobby-ist, and every media outlet.” “The truth is a powerful thing, and there is so little of it in the me-dia today.” Liberty Today is funded by its readers and supporters. WASHINGTON — A memo by John Morton, the Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs En-forcement (ICE), could effective-ly open the U.S. border to a tidal wave of illegal immigration. The memo gives ICE officials and prosecutors wide latitude to ignore the fact that a person is il-legally in the United States — if the person is a student, high school school graduate, elderly, has family

in the U.S., has medical problems, not too long a criminal history, if they are the primary caregiver to a person who is a minor, if they are pregnant or nursing, if they are co-operative with ICE, or if they meet a number of other specific condi-tions. The memo is actually more far-reaching than the Dream Act, which has been repeatedly rejected by Congress.

CHINA PLANS TO MOVE IN ON CANADA’S OIL. The Asso-ciated Press reports that a state-owned oil company from China is offering to finance a pipeline to deliver oil from Alberta to the Pa-cific, so it can be shipped to China. This is oil the U.S. had considered a reliable part of its future supplies.

HHH STRATEGIC PETROLEUM RESERVES. President Obama an-

nounced that he opened U.S. stra-tegic petroleum reserves — which are supposed to be held for emer-gencies. An analysis of Adminis-tration statements shows the U.S. did not act alone in this decision but that it was done in conjunc-tion with other “producing” and “consuming” nations. Is this Ad-ministration now giving other gov-ernments a say in the petroleum reserves of this country?
