“This is a show that truly has it all. Blazingly undiminished!!”THE show lauded as “the greatest Broadway musical of all time” is returning to Hanley’s Regent Theatre in November! With ground-breaking choreography by the legendary Jerome Robbins, book by Arthur Laurents, an unforgettable score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by the youthful Stephen Sondheim, ‘West Side Story’ changed the face of musical theatre for ever, following its Broadway premiere in 1957.
Based on Shakespeare’s tragedy about ‘star-cross’d lovers’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘West Side Story’ transfers the action from 16th century Verona to
contemporary New York, with street-gangs, The Jets and The Sharks, replacing the warring families of the Montagues and Capulets.
The show is famously packed with unforgettable songs, including ‘Maria’, ‘Tonight’, ‘Somewhere’, ‘America’ and ‘I
Feel Pretty’, and has been described (by The Guardian) as “one of the towering achievements of musical theatre of the last century.”
“If you buy one theatre ticket, make it this one,” enthused The Observer, while The Evening Standard exulted: “Quite simply a masterpiece.”
Now, Joey McKneeley’s vibrant stage-production of the classic musical, featuring Jerome Robbins’s original choreography, returns to The Regent Theatre from Tuesday, November 12th, to Saturday, November 16th, at 7.30pm, with 2.30pm matinee
performances on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Tickets (priced at £19.50-£45) can be purchased at The Regent Box Office, by calling 0844 871 7649 or at www.atgtickets.com/stoke
